Chapter 441 Lend It to You to Wear Once
Upon hearing this, Susan scrunched up her face and said, "I don't wanna go to some lame event."
"Want me to bring another chick instead?" Seb shot back from the other end.
That hit a nerve. No way was Susan letting him show up with another woman. Just picturing some other girl hanging on his arm made her blood boil.
"Go by yourself," Susan snapped.
"These things need a plus-one to be polite. Plus, you're about to be Mrs. Anderson of Prosperity Group. The wedding invites are going out soon, and people wanna see you. Don't let 'em down!" Seb said, his voice softening.
Susan sighed, "Fine."
Seb grinned, "Remember to dress nicely!"
"Dressing up costs money," Susan said, lifting her chin defiantly.
"Isn't my supplementary card with you? It's got a $3 million limit. Go wild; don't hold back." With that, Seb hung up.
Just then, Isabella walked in and dropped a document in front of Susan.
"What's up? Why the sour face?" Isabella asked, noticing Susan's expression.
"Seb wants me to go to a party tomorrow. I hate these things, smiling at everyone whether you know them or not. And those three-inch heels? My feet will be dead by the end of the night," Susan grumbled.
"If it's a big deal, you should go. If not, skip it," Isabella advised.
"It's the annual government shindig in Maple Valley, where they pick the Business Person of the Year. All the big shots will be there," Susan explained.
Isabella's eyes lit up. "You gotta go with Seb to that!"
"He said we're getting married soon, and people wanna meet me," Susan said, shaking her head with a smile.
"You have to go, and you have to look amazing! Do you know how many women wanna get close to a guy like Seb? You need to show them who's boss, show them how much you two are in love, and make them back off!" Isabella insisted.
Susan chuckled, "Is it really that serious?"
"Totally," Isabella nodded.
Susan thought for a moment. If she was going, she couldn't make Seb look bad. Lots of people probably wanted to meet her.
"After work, come with me to find a killer dress," Susan said.
"Deal, but you owe me dinner afterward," Isabella said, leaning on the table with a grin.
"No problem, Seb's card is with me," Susan said, waving her wallet.
At 6:30 the next evening, Seb, looking sharp in a black suit, paced the living room, checking his watch and frowning.
"Are you ready? We're gonna be late!" Seb hollered up the stairs.
"Two more minutes, almost done!" Susan shouted back.
Hayden, who was doodling at the coffee table, looked up and said, "Women are such a hassle!"
Hearing this, Seb turned around and smirked. "You ain't know it, Hayden."
Hayden stretched his neck and said, "Why wouldn't I know? Women gotta put on makeup, blow-dry their hair, and pick out clothes. It's a whole thing!"
"Hayden, when you have a girl, you'll have to wait patiently like me," Seb said with a grin.
"When I grow up, I want a girl who doesn't wear makeup!" Hayden suddenly declared.
Seb frowned. "Why's that?"
Hayden shrugged. "I hate makeup. An ugly girl can look like a princess with it, but without it, you wouldn't even recognize her. Natural beauty's the best!"
With that, Hayden went back to his drawing.
Seb shook his head, chuckling.
Just then, the sound of high heels clicking on the floor caught his attention.
Seb turned around and saw a knockout walking down the stairs.
Susan was rocking a black, pearlescent long dress with an off-the-shoulder neckline and sleeves, hugging her waist and hips just right. It was classy and didn't show too much skin, which Seb liked.
Her hair was in a low bun, she had light makeup on, held a silver clutch, and wore black heels that showed off her curves perfectly.
"How do I look?" Susan asked, strutting up to Seb in her heels.
With those high heels, Susan's height was just below his nose.
Seb's eyes darkened as he stared at her. "Not bad, but something's missing."
Susan looked down at herself, frowning. "What's missing?"
Seb grinned, then reached into his pocket and pulled out a blue velvet box.
"What's this?" Susan asked, puzzled.
Seb didn't answer but opened the box and held it up to her.
Susan looked down and saw a pair of sapphire earrings sparkling under the light.
The sapphires were big and surrounded by diamonds, matching her ring. Clearly, he had put some thought into this.
"Are these for me?" Susan asked, smiling as she took the box.
"I'm just lending them to you for the night," Seb joked.
Susan played along, smiling. "Alright, I'll borrow them for the night and give them back later!"
Seb smiled, took one earring from the box, and gently put it on her left ear.
Susan stood there, smiling as he put the other earring on her right ear.
His touch was gentle, especially his big hands, carefully putting the earring into her small earlobe.
After he finished, Susan smiled at Seb. "Do they look good?"
Seb stepped back, holding his chin, and stared at her for a moment before nodding. "The earrings look good."
Susan playfully hit him. "Don't I look good?"
"You look good too," Seb said, holding her hand and smiling.
"That's more like it," Susan said with a smile.
At that moment, Hayden suddenly called out, "Dad, didn't you say you're late? How do you still have time to flirt with Mom?"
