Chapter 1307 Forcibly Taken Away
Cecilia's hands were shaking with anger as she listened to Daryl. Her voice quivered. "Daryl, are you out of your mind? How could you think that about me and Elijah?"
She was at a loss for words, the accusation was so outrageous. Her face turned pale with fury.
But Daryl was unyielding. "I think you're the one who's lost it. I never thought you'd do something like this. You've really let me down!"
His eyes were filled with anger, but also hurt and disappointment.
"Elijah is your brother, and I'm your wife. I was just upset, and he was comforting me. Are you seriously overthinking this?" Cecilia was so angry she could barely think straight.
Daryl sneered. "Would a normal brother be hugging his sister-in-law like that? And why would you come all the way out here, two hundred miles from Maple Valley, if you weren't trying to hide something?"
"You..." Cecilia was at a loss for words, her hand still stinging from slapping him earlier.
At that moment, Elijah, who was already bruised, stepped forward, trying to explain. "Daryl, can you just listen to me?"
"It's clear enough. There's no need for explanations. From now on, you're not my brother!" Daryl shouted, pointing angrily at Elijah.
Elijah looked helplessly at Cecilia and said, "Cecilia, Daryl's too angry right now. I'll explain to him later. I should go."
With that, Elijah walked away, leaving Cecilia to face Daryl's icy stare.
Cecilia took a deep breath and asked, "Weren't you supposed to be in Skyhaven? How did you get back so quickly?"
She suddenly looked up at Daryl, disbelief in her eyes. "Did you never go to Skyhaven at all?"
He had been gone less than two days. It was impossible to make a round trip to Skyhaven in that time unless he turned right back around.
Daryl smirked. "I didn't go. I wanted to see what you'd do once I left."
Cecilia looked at Daryl with unfamiliar eyes, finally saying, "What do you mean by that? How have I wronged you?"
Daryl pulled a piece of paper from his pocket. "How do you explain this?"
Cecilia snatched the paper from his hand and looked down. It was the divorce agreement she had hidden in her vanity drawer.
Seeing the divorce papers, Cecilia felt a mix of emotions. "I'll explain this later."
"You can't come up with a reason right now, right?" Daryl mocked.
Hearing his continued sarcasm, Cecilia responded coldly, "If you can't talk to me reasonably, then there's no point in explaining. Think whatever you want. I have a lot to do and no time for this."
She turned to leave, but as she passed Daryl, he grabbed her arm.
"Running 'cause you're guilty? Or can't face me?" Daryl demanded, his grip tightening.
Cecilia closed her eyes in frustration, then said slowly, "Daryl, calm down. I really don't have the energy for this. I'm very busy, and my family is in crisis."
"When did you and Elijah start this? How far have you gone? Have you slept together?" Daryl's expression was grave, his eyes filled with pain, and his grip on her arm tightened.
The pain in her arm made Cecilia frown, but the real hurt was in her heart. She felt deeply insulted.
In the next moment, Cecilia raised her hand to slap Daryl again, but he caught her wrist with his other hand.
His grip was firm as he said coldly, "You want to hit me again?"
Cecilia stared into Daryl's cold eyes, feeling a chill in her heart. She had never seen him like this and was suddenly very afraid.
Daryl pushed her away, and she stumbled back, nearly falling.
"What has happened to you? Why are you like this?" Cecilia's eyes filled with tears. She couldn't understand how he could jump to such conclusions just because she and Elijah had been a bit close.
"You're divorcing me for Elijah? What have I done to deserve this?" Daryl grabbed her wrist and started pulling her away.
"Where are you taking me? Let go!" Cecilia struggled, but Daryl's face was set in a grim expression, ignoring her protests.
"You're coming home with me!" Daryl dragged her out of the hospital.
Cecilia looked back at the hospital, tears welling up in her eyes.
As the driver opened the car door, Cecilia clung to it, refusing to get in. She pleaded with Daryl, "Daryl, I'll explain the divorce papers later. Please, let me go. My brother's wife had a difficult labor, and the baby didn't make it. My family is in crisis. Can you give me a few days to handle things here before I go with you?"
Daryl's cold eyes stared at her, saying nothing.
Noticing his silence, Cecilia lowered her stance and begged, "Daryl, I'm begging you. My family is in a critical situation. My mom and brother need me. Please, let me stay and help them."
Cecilia looked at Daryl with pleading eyes, desperate.
If Daryl took her away now, she wouldn't be able to return anytime soon. Her family's situation was dire, and she was deeply worried. Her mother was already in poor health, and her brother was struggling to care for Seraphina, who was emotionally and physically unstable.
Finally, Daryl released her hand.
Cecilia quickly stood up straight.
Daryl looked into the distance and said, "What if you leave without telling me?"
Cecilia understood he wanted a promise. "I promise, once I've handled things here, I'll come back to Maple Valley to find you."
