Chapter 262 Brother
Three days later, Susan held Hayden's hand in the hallway, waiting for the paternity test results.
She looked calm, but inside, she was a mess.
Hayden seemed to sense the tension. He kept glancing at Susan, ignoring the cookies and egg tarts he was holding.
Just then, George came out with a document.
Susan's heart raced, and her hand got sweaty.
Hayden was so sweet and well-behaved. She was terrified he might not be hers, fearing the heartbreak and disappointment.
She hoped Hayden was her child from years ago. No matter what, Hayden and Spring would be her support.
"How is it?" Susan asked as George approached.
"Do you even need to ask? George, I think you're the most disappointed one today," Seb said with a cold smile.
George frowned and told Susan, "You and Hayden are mother and son."
Susan's face lit up. She took the document from George, saw the 99% DNA match, and couldn't hold back her emotions. She squatted down and hugged Hayden tightly.
"Hayden, I've missed you so much," Susan exclaimed.
Hayden, squeezed by Susan, said, "Mommy, you're hugging me so tight I can't breathe!"
Susan quickly loosened her grip, wiped her tears, and smiled. "Sorry, baby."
Hayden then walked over to Seb, tugging at his clothes. "Daddy, I want to stay with Mommy from now on!"
"As long as your mommy agrees, of course you can stay with her." Seb nodded and looked at Susan.
Susan smiled at Hayden. "Then come with me today!"
Hayden shook his head. "I don't want to be separated from Daddy. Mommy, Daddy, and Hayden are a family. We should live together!"
George frowned deeply.
Susan noticed and said, "Hayden, your daddy and I aren't a family anymore, so you have to choose between us."
Hayden started crying. "No, I want both Daddy and Mommy. I don't want to choose!"
Seeing Hayden cry, Susan felt lost. She felt so guilty, even though it wasn't her fault. She didn't want to see him cry but couldn't go back with Seb.
Seb frowned, walked over to Hayden, squatted down, and said, "Hayden, your mommy still has to take care of your sister. Didn't you say you wanted to see her? Now you can go with your mommy to see her."
When Seb mentioned Spring, Hayden stopped crying. He looked up at Seb, still a bit hesitant. "Daddy, won't you be lonely by yourself?"
Seb smiled and said, "No, just remember to listen to Mommy, okay?"
"Okay," Hayden said loudly, then turned and held Susan's hand.
Seeing how well-behaved Hayden was, Susan smiled and said to Seb, "I'll bring him back in a couple of days."
Susan had embraced the concept of co-parenting with Seb, acknowledging his pivotal role in Hayden's life. She valued their bond and was willing to share custody, cherishing the moments Hayden could spend with her.
Susan took Hayden home. As soon as they entered, Hayden saw Spring, who had just learned to walk, standing on the floor.
Hayden walked up to Spring, looked at her in her pink clothes, and said, "Are you my sister, Spring?"
Spring couldn't speak yet and just made babbling sounds, her big eyes fixed on Hayden.
Hayden said, "Even though you're not that cute, since I'm your brother, you don't have to be afraid. I'll protect you!"
He already looked like a big brother.
Susan and Serenity smiled at this.
Then, a heartwarming moment unfolded as Spring approached Hayden, offering him the toy she held while chattering away excitedly.
Glancing at the doll in Spring's hand, Hayden said, "These are girls' toys. I don't like them. Keep them yourself."
Spring retracted her hand but then stepped forward and hugged Hayden, smearing her drool on his clothes.
Although Hayden looked disgusted, he didn't push Spring away. He just frowned and said, "Spring, it's okay to hug me, but you can't hug other boys, understand? Girls should be reserved!"
Susan covered her face, laughing so hard her stomach hurt. Serenity was also laughing uncontrollably.
With Hayden around, the house was filled with laughter. He had become the source of joy for Susan and Serenity.
That night, both kids slept in Susan's bed.
Hayden slept on the left, Spring on the right, and Susan happily in the middle.
Looking at Hayden and Spring, Susan felt very emotional. She never thought she'd get her son back.
As she watched them under the dim nightlight, she suddenly heard steady footsteps outside.
It was George. Susan knew he had come over deliberately when Hayden and Spring were asleep. She had been neglecting George with the kids around.
Susan got out of bed, put on her shoes, and walked out of the bedroom.
Gently closing the door, she turned to see George, dressed in loungewear, already sitting on the sofa.
"Are they asleep?" George asked softly.
"They're sleeping soundly." Susan nodded, then sat beside George, resting her head on his shoulder.
