Chapter 1275 Nervous
Isabella was practically yelling on the other end, "Seriously, how long has it been since we hung out? You can't just ditch your friends for Daryl! You've totally forgotten about your besties!"
Cecilia frowned slightly and replied, "Alright, I'll try to make it."
"That's more like it!" Isabella said before hanging up.
Cecilia put down the phone and thought for a moment. Then, she walked into the living room and glanced at Azalea, who was sitting on the couch munching on sunflower seeds. Gathering her courage, she said, "Mom, I need to go out for a bit."
"Where are you going?" Azalea asked without looking up.
"I have two friends who want to meet up and chat," Cecilia replied.
Azalea frowned. "What friends?"
"They're two of my old best friends. We haven't seen each other in ages, and I really miss them," Cecilia explained.
Azalea thought for a moment before saying, "I think you've already agreed. If I don't let you go, you'll resent me, and then Daryl will come back and complain to me."
"Mom, I would never do that," Cecilia said quickly.
A few days ago, Daryl had pleaded with Azalea on Cecilia's behalf over a small matter, which had made Azalea unhappy, thinking Cecilia had complained about her to Daryl.
"You better not," Azalea said with a cold snort.
"Thanks, Mom. I'll go upstairs and change," Cecilia said and headed upstairs.
Closing her bedroom door, Cecilia's face lit up with joy as she quickly opened her closet to find an outfit.
Honestly, she had been feeling quite stifled these past few days. Although Daryl could cheer her up, a lover and friends were different. Not being able to talk to friends for a long time could really make one feel frustrated.
An hour later, Cecilia was sitting in a quiet, elegant café with Susan and Isabella, chatting away.
"Cecilia, you've been so distant since you got married. We haven't seen each other, let alone had a meal together. Even when we call, you hang up quickly. You're totally ditching your friends for your husband! You and Daryl have a lifetime together; you don't need to be glued to each other all the time," Isabella complained with a laugh.
"I'm sorry. I've been busy managing a lot of household affairs for the Fields family, so I haven't had time to go out. I didn't mean to neglect you," Cecilia apologized quickly.
Seeing Cecilia's anxious expression, Susan patted her shoulder. "Don't listen to her nonsense. We just miss you, so we called you out. We know you've been busy with the Fields family's affairs since you quit your job. Daryl's parents are getting older, and with so many servants and things to manage, it's definitely a lot of work."
Hearing this, Cecilia smiled, feeling understood. But she couldn't share her troubles and had to digest them slowly on her own.
"Being a young mistress in a wealthy family isn't easy. By the way, Cecilia, is Daryl's mom difficult to deal with? Has she given you any trouble?" Isabella asked.
Cecilia forced a smile. "It's okay. She's accepted me now. She's just a bit strict sometimes, but with Daryl protecting me, I'm doing fine in the Fields family."
"That's good. Isabella and I were worried about you," Susan said with a smile.
"How have you been? Don't just talk about me," Cecilia quickly changed the subject.
"We're great! Just shopping around, watching the kids, and going on vacations when we have time!" Isabella said with a grin.
Hearing this, Cecilia couldn't help but feel a pang of envy.
"Only she can have such wonderful days. I still have work, and after work, I'm busy with the kids. Only holidays give me some free time," Susan said with a laugh, taking a sip of her coffee.
"Your lives are really enviable," Cecilia said sincerely.
"You're a newlywed. You have to endure a few years first. The most important thing is that you and Daryl have a great relationship!" Susan said, comforting Cecilia.
"Right," Cecilia nodded.
Suddenly, Isabella's eyes fixed on Cecilia's stomach. "Cecilia, are you pregnant?"
Seeing Isabella staring at her belly, Cecilia looked down at her flat stomach and understood what Isabella meant. She blushed and said, "Not yet."
Actually, she wanted to have a baby with Daryl soon, but they hadn't used any contraception since before their wedding, and it had been four or five months with no sign of pregnancy.
Isabella teased, "You are together all the time, and still no luck? You need to step up your game! I have two kids now, and Susan has three. You need to catch up!"
Cecilia and Susan both laughed.
Susan then said, "Cecilia is a high achiever. She's not like us, just focused on having kids."
"You're a CEO's secretary, and you're teasing me? I've become a housewife now," Cecilia said.
Isabella replied, "I think it's great. No need to work, plenty to eat and drink, and time to spend with the kids!"
"And a husband who treats you like a queen. You're practically winning at life!" Susan laughed.
"Isn't Seb treating you well? Aren't you winning at life too?" Isabella retorted with a smile.
"You both are winning at life," Cecilia said.
"And you are too, just missing a few kids. Go home tonight and work on it. Make sure you hit the target!" Isabella teased.
Cecilia's face turned red.
At that moment, Cecilia's phone suddenly rang.
She quickly took out her phone and saw it was the Fields family's number, making her heart tighten.
She had only been out for an hour, why were they calling?
Cecilia quickly answered the call.
"Cecilia?" Azalea's voice came from the other end.
"Mom, is something wrong?" Cecilia asked nervously.
"We have guests at home. Buy some pears and local durians from Sylvanor and come back quickly!" Azalea ordered.
Hearing this, Cecilia frowned but could only say, "Okay."
Azalea hung up the phone.
"What's wrong?" Susan asked, seeing Cecilia's troubled expression.
"Sorry, Azalea wants me to go back. She said we have guests and I need to buy some fruit," Cecilia explained.
Susan frowned.
Isabella spoke first, "What kind of guests need you to personally buy fruit? Doesn't your family have a bunch of servants? Why do you have to rush back?"
