Chapter 591 This Is Their Fate

Susan let out a small cry as the hot oil splashed on her hand, and she dropped the spatula onto the cutting board.

Seeing this, Seb rushed over and grabbed her wrist, asking anxiously, "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine!" Susan quickly shook her head.

Seb frowned, turned off the gas, and led Susan to the sink. He turned on the faucet and let cold water run over the back of her hand.

At that moment, Susan looked up at him and saw the worry in his eyes, his brows furrowed, and his gaze fixed on her hand.

A wave of warmth washed over Susan, chased by a bitter chill.

He still cared. That much was clear. But tomorrow, everything would change. The thought of becoming strangers, of no longer being his wife, was almost unbearable.

After running her hand under cold water for a while, the redness subsided.

Seb noticed Susan's gaze and then let go of her hand.

The atmosphere in the kitchen became a bit awkward.

One stood there, while the other seemed a bit at a loss.

The next moment, Susan smiled and said, "The food is almost ready. Go wash your hands and check on the kids. We can start dinner soon."

"Okay." Seb nodded at Susan, a bit reluctant to leave.

Fifteen minutes later, the family of four sat down at the dining table.

The table was filled with dishes, all of Seb and the kids' favorites, still steaming hot. But the usual warmth was missing, replaced by a strained silence. Only Hayden and Spring, oblivious in their youthful innocence, seemed untouched by the weight that hung in the air.

Seeing so much food, Hayden's eyes widened, and he said, "Daddy, it's so good to have you back. Mommy made so many dishes because you're here!"

"Yummy, yummy!" Spring shouted after Mary fed her a bite.

"Eat your food," Susan glanced at Hayden but still put a lot of food on his plate.

"Okay." Hayden nodded and started eating heartily.

Looking at Hayden, Susan felt very sad because once she moved out, she wouldn't be able to be with them all the time.

The next moment, Susan took Spring from Mary's arms and said, "Mary, I'll feed Spring."

"Okay." Mary nodded.

Susan then focused on feeding Spring and occasionally put food on Hayden's plate. She was preoccupied, feeling that this last supper was suffocating. The kids, being young and innocent, ate happily, seemingly unaware of the different atmosphere.

Seb ate very little, his eyes almost always on Susan.

Finally, Hayden finished eating and ran to the living room to play. Kathy and Mary ate in the kitchen, leaving only Seb, Susan, and Spring at the table.

By then, Spring was full and waved her little hands, saying she didn't want to eat anymore. Susan then put down her utensils.

Seeing this, Seb reached out and took Spring, saying considerately, "You haven't eaten anything. I'll take care of Spring."

"You didn't eat much either. Don't you like the food?" Susan looked up at Seb and asked.

"No, I had a late lunch, so I'm not very hungry." Seb said and then took Spring to the living room.

Looking at the food on the table, Susan had no appetite but still ate, her eyes a bit moist.

At that moment, Seb, standing at the dining room door, looked back at her. Seeing her like that, he frowned and then left with Spring.

After dinner, Susan and Kathy washed the dishes in the kitchen while Seb played with the kids in the living room.

Kathy couldn't help but say, "Mrs. Anderson, Mr. Anderson rarely comes back. You should go spend time with him. I can handle this."

"I'll help you finish." Susan shook her head.

She really wanted to be with him and the kids, but she felt she couldn't face it.

So, after hesitating for quite a while and ensuring there was no more work left in the kitchen, Susan finally walked into the living room.

Seeing Susan, Hayden quickly ran over, grabbed her hand, and smiled up at her. "Mommy, come play with us?"

"Okay." Susan nodded and then sat on the sofa.

Seb was helping the kids with building blocks. He looked up at Susan and then focused on the robot he was assembling.

Time passed by, and Susan sat silently with them.

Even though she didn't say a word, seeing him seriously building the robot with the kids made her feel content.

No matter what they did, whether they talked or not, as long as they were together, it was the greatest happiness.

But it seemed that after tonight, such opportunities would no longer exist. Susan felt a wave of sadness.

She silently held Spring and held Hayden's little hand, cherishing this moment, wishing time could stand still.

But time continued to tick away, and by the time the robot was finally assembled, the children were already getting sleepy.

Susan took Spring to put her to sleep, while Seb took Hayden to bed and told him a story.

Spring finally fell asleep. After handing her to Mary, Susan left Spring's bedroom.

Seeing the light still on in Hayden's room, Susan gently pushed the door open.

She saw Seb and Hayden lying on the bed, telling a story. Susan didn't know whether to go over or not.

At that moment, Hayden suddenly said, "Mommy, come listen to Daddy's story too?"

Hearing this, Susan looked up and met Seb's deep and gentle gaze.

His eyes made Susan feel like she was electrified.

"Okay." Susan quickly lowered her eyes and said, then walked over.

After getting on the bed, Hayden was in the middle, with Seb and Susan on either side.

Hayden was very happy, holding Susan's hand with one hand and Seb's with the other, putting their hands together.

When Susan's hand touched Seb's, her heart skipped a beat!

Looking up, she met his gaze, and Susan suddenly felt very flustered.

The next moment, Susan felt her hand being enveloped by a large hand.

Looking down, she saw his hand completely covering hers.

Tears welled in her eyes. She didn't want him to let go. She didn't want this to end. But some fates, it seemed, were beyond their control.
