Chapter 697 Worry
"You mean there's more to this assault case than meets the eye?" Isabella stared at Susan and asked.
"I'm just guessing, but it feels like there's something fishy about it," Susan said.
"Ugh, Seb has had such a rough year. First, his parents got divorced, then his mom died, and his dad..." When mentioning Todd, Isabella realized she had misspoken and quickly corrected herself, "Now Rylee is dead, and the Anderson family's billions have fallen into the hands of the scheming Andrew. No wonder Seb is so depressed. I bet Andrew's next move is to fight him for Prosperity Group!"
Hearing this, Susan felt very anxious and sat there in silence for a long time.
In the president's office of Prosperity Group.
Seb sat in a swivel chair, smoke rising from the cigarette between his fingers, his face full of despondency. His eyes were fixed on the photos of Rylee and Carol on his desk.
Leon frowned as he looked at the dejected Seb and said, "I've already asked the lawyer to handle the assault case, trying to settle it with money, but it still depends on Andrew's decision."
"He's about to inherit billions; he doesn't need money. He probably wants a good reputation. In the end, he'll likely tell the media that out of respect for his late wife, he'll let me off. I can practically write his press release for him," Seb said, taking a drag from his cigarette.
Hearing this, Leon couldn't help but say, "Mr. Anderson, since you know Andrew is a despicable person, why did you fall into his trap? He deliberately provoked you to catch you in the act of hitting him."
"Let me take all the blame. I don't have evidence to say he committed murder, so I'll just knock out one of his teeth for Rylee first. I don't care about reputation!" Seb's words were full of arrogance and dominance.
Leon patiently advised, "I know you can't stand it, but there are rumors everywhere against you. You must endure it and not fall into Andrew's vile schemes!"
Seb's eyes remained fixed on the photos on his desk, saying nothing.
Leon, still worried, continued to advise, "Andrew used to have only five percent of the shares, which was not a threat. But if he inherits Ms. Anderson's shares tomorrow, he'll have as many shares in Prosperity Group as you do. He'll be a significant figure in the company, and those dissatisfied with us within the company are now aligning with him. I think his next move is to fight you for the CEO position, and he might even covet the chairman's position. You have to be on guard!"
Seeing Leon's worried expression, Seb finally spoke. "Leon, thank you for the reminder. I understand all of this."
"If you understand, then you need to pull yourself together!" Leon advised.
"In the past, I never understood the meaning of being disheartened. My mom died, I divorced Susan, and now Rylee is dead. I'm really disheartened and can't muster the energy to do anything. Maybe I need time, Leon. Let me indulge myself for a bit; I really can't do anything right now!" Seb ran a hand through his thick hair, his expression extremely pained.
Leon knew he couldn't accept this reality all at once, so he didn't push him further. He nodded and said, "I know you need time to calm down. Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on Prosperity Group for you."
After saying that, Leon left the office.
Two days later, Leon suddenly appeared at Susan's accounting firm.
"Leon? What brings you here today? Are you here to take me out for lunch?" Seeing Leon walk into the firm, Isabella greeted him with a bright smile, her feet barely touching the ground as she hurried over.
Seeing Isabella's cheerful expression, Leon's face turned a bit serious. His eyes then fell on Susan's office door, and he said, "I have something to discuss with Susan."
Hearing this, Isabella was immediately disappointed. She crossed her arms over her chest and muttered, "We haven't seen each other for over a week, and I thought you came to see me. Looks like I was just being wishful. Susan is in her office; you can go in yourself."
After saying that, Isabella turned to go back to her desk.
Seeing this, Leon quickly stepped forward, gently holding her shoulder, and coaxed softly, "I should be able to find time to be with you tonight."
"Really?" Hearing this, Isabella's eyes lit up.
"Yes." Leon nodded, then patted Isabella's shoulder before turning to walk into Susan's office.
Leon knocked on Susan's office door.
"Come in!" Susan, buried in her work, shouted at the door.
The next moment, Leon pushed the door open and entered.
"Ms. Wilson?"
Leon's voice reached Susan's ears, and she looked up, stunned to see Leon.
Then she stood up, frowned, and asked, "Leon, why are you here? Is something wrong with him?"
Seeing Susan's anxious expression, Leon nodded.
"What exactly happened?" Susan frowned and asked.
Leon closed the office door behind him, his face serious, and said, "I've been with Mr. Anderson for so many years, and I've never seen him so despondent. Now he can't stop smoking, gets drunk every night, and has completely let go of Prosperity Group's affairs. He just asks me to keep an eye on things for him."
Hearing this, Susan clenched her hand and said, "This year, almost all his loved ones have left him. Anyone would be unable to bear it."
"If it were just grief, he could take a month or two to heal, and I could manage things in the meantime. But the situation is dire. Andrew is making his move on Prosperity Group. He wants that CEO position, and we both know he's ruthless. If he gets control of the company..." Leon trailed off, unable to voice the disastrous possibilities.
"Does Andrew have the ability to oust Seb from the CEO position now? After all, he's been running Prosperity Group for so many years; his foundation should still be there," Susan asked, looking at Leon.
"A few days ago, Andrew inherited all of Ms. Anderson's shares and assets in Prosperity Group. Now he holds as many shares as Mr. Anderson, and he's allied with some people in Prosperity Group who were not being utilized. His power is not to be underestimated. The main issue is that Mr. Anderson is in a bad state right now. Andrew is spreading rumors everywhere that Mr. Anderson is fighting him for the inheritance. Mr. Anderson's reputation is in tatters, and with him neglecting his duties recently, some members of the board are already dissatisfied with him. Although they all know Mr. Anderson's capabilities and his strong foundation in the company, such squandering can't be sustained! Moreover, Andrew has always had ulterior motives; one careless move and Mr. Anderson could fall into his trap," Leon said worriedly.
