Chapter 103 I Just Wanted to See You

Seb and Cynthia left early, and the party was winding down.

As they said their goodbyes, Helen held onto Susan's hand. "Ms. Wilson, thanks for your help."

"Mrs. Ramirez, it was my pleasure," Susan replied with a smile.

"You look a lot like me when I was young. Hope we meet again," Helen said with a hint of admiration.

"I think we will," Susan nodded.

Though she said that, Susan knew their social circles were miles apart, making another meeting unlikely. But Helen was kind and down-to-earth, not your typical wealthy lady.

George drove Susan home in his Land Rover.

"No need to walk me in, I can manage," Susan politely declined George's offer as she got out of the car.

But George insisted, walking her to the entrance of her apartment complex. "This old neighborhood isn't very safe at night. Be careful," he said with a smile.

"Thank you," Susan said, not wanting to refuse his insistence.

The building, though old, was in the heart of Maple Valley and offered affordable rent. Susan chose it to save money and because of its proximity to her office. She had to support Catherine and Dorothy, so budgeting was crucial despite her decent salary.

At the entrance, Susan turned and smiled, "Alright, I'm here!"

George stood there, scratching his head, not ready to leave. He looked up at the moon. "The moon is beautiful tonight."

Susan looked up, feeling the atmosphere get awkward. She felt a chill and wrapped her arms around her shoulders, wearing a strapless dress.

Seeing this, George quickly offered his jacket.

Susan stepped back. "Mr. Anderson, your jacket should be for your girlfriend. It wouldn't be appropriate for me to wear it."

If Seb was right, Susan was reminding George he had a girlfriend and his actions were crossing a line.

George's face stiffened, and he pulled his jacket back. "Actually..."

Before George could finish, Susan interrupted, "Actually, I was so reckless, I got soaked to the bone just to get you your meds. I couldn't get a cab back and had to shower at your place and wear your shirt. I'm lucky it was Seb who saw me and not your girlfriend. Seb and I are divorced, so it didn't matter if he misunderstood. But if your girlfriend misunderstood, it would have caused problems for your relationship and my reputation. Don't you agree?"

"Yes," George nodded, looking down.

"I need to be more mindful in the future, or I'll end up causing trouble for myself and others," Susan said, feeling she had said everything she needed to. George was smart; he should understand.

After a moment, George looked up at her apartment. "It's late. You should go up. I'll wait until I see your light on before I leave."

"No need, you should go home," Susan insisted.

George frowned. "Susan, this is just concern for your safety from a friend and your boss. Don't overthink it."

"Alright," Susan nodded and walked into the building.

The old hallway was dimly lit and a bit creepy. Susan felt a bit scared as she made her way to the third floor. She quickly took out her keys and opened the door, turning on the light to brighten the room.

As she reached to close the door, she saw a dark figure outside, making her legs go weak with fear.

It was a tall man's shadow. Susan immediately thought of robbery or worse.

She tried to close the door, but the figure grabbed it and stepped inside.

It was Seb.

Seeing him, Susan angrily tried to shut the door with all her strength, but she couldn't push Seb out.

Seb squeezed in.

Realizing she couldn't stop him, Susan, in her high heels, took two steps back. "What do you want?" she asked warily.

Seb closed the door behind him, his dark eyes fixed on Susan. "I just wanted to see you," he said softly.

Compared to his dark expression at the party, Seb's face was much softer now, and his eyes were gentle. Susan didn't know what he was up to.

"Do you know this counts as trespassing?" she said.

Seb didn't care. He looked around the small but cozy apartment.

A frosted glass door separated a small bedroom and living room, with a tiny kitchen and bathroom. It was compact but complete.

It was enough for Susan, and sometimes Isabella would stay over. The main thing was that it was close to her office and the rent was cheap.

Susan had kept the place clean and cozy, with white curtains, checkered bed sheets, a small green fabric sofa, and two lush green plants hanging from the wardrobe. The whole place felt like home.

Seb walked into the bedroom, went to the window, and pulled the white curtains closed.

Seeing this, Susan angrily followed him. "If you don't leave, I'll call the police!" she threatened, taking out her phone to dial 911.

But before she could dial, Seb grabbed her phone.

"Give it back!" Susan reached for her phone.

Seb wrapped one arm around her waist, holding the phone high with the other hand. Even on tiptoe, Susan couldn't reach it.

"Give me my phone back, do you hear me?" Susan shouted.

Seb looked down at her angry face, a teasing smile on his lips.

Seeing the mischievous smile on Seb's face, Susan realized she was now in his arms.

So, the struggle for the phone turned into Susan trying to break free from Seb's embrace.
