Chapter 608 Something Happened
Hearing Susan's words, Isabella was taken aback, then she laughed and said, "What opportunity am I supposed to seize? If I had someone I wanted to seize, I wouldn't still be single now."
At this moment, Susan suddenly looked at Isabella seriously and said, "Isabella, you know who I'm talking about."
Hearing this, Isabella fell silent.
Although Susan wasn't entirely sure what had happened between Isabella and Leon, she was certain that both of them had feelings for each other. She just didn't understand why they were still hesitating.
If she'd ever doubted Leon's interest, his recent lingering glances at Isabella spoke volumes.
After a while, Isabella pretended to be indifferent and said, "Maybe I don't care much about that person you mentioned. Besides, I feel he's not suitable for me, not my true love."
Susan looked at Isabella without saying anything. After all, she knew that Isabella understood her own feelings best.
The next moment, Isabella laughed and said, "Let's stop this nonsense. I have work to do. I'm heading out."
After saying that, Isabella quickly left.
Although Susan thought highly of Leon, she couldn't force them to be together. Besides, she hadn't even sorted out her own feelings, so how could she advise others?
That evening, Susan left work with her bag.
Maybe because they had talked about Isabella's feelings earlier, Isabella had left work early on purpose, not waiting for her. Dorothy usually stayed half an hour late, so Susan wandered alone in the twilight.
Although she missed Hayden and Spring dearly, it was a weekday, and even if Seb didn't have dinner at home, he would return early. To avoid running into him, Susan decided to wait until the weekend to visit the kids.
As she walked, Susan suddenly felt a strange sensation in her lower abdomen.
Frowning, Susan found a bench for pedestrians to rest on and sat down. Maybe her emotions had been fluctuating a lot recently, or she was just tired, so the baby in her belly was protesting.
Susan then decided she must rest more in the future. She was only two months pregnant, and the first three months were unstable, so she needed to be extra careful.
She thought resting for a while would make her feel better, but the pain only got worse. Gradually, the pain in her lower abdomen became so severe that she couldn't even stand up.
Having given birth twice before, Susan knew this was different. This was more than just discomfort.
She quickly took out her phone from her bag, intending to call Isabella or 911 for an ambulance. She couldn't get to the hospital by herself in this condition.
But unfortunately, her phone was dead. At this critical moment, her phone had run out of battery. Frustrated, Susan threw the phone back into her bag.
She was extremely annoyed, remembering that she had noticed the low battery in the afternoon but didn't take it seriously, thinking she would charge it at home. She hadn't expected this situation to arise.
Anxious, Susan wanted to ask for help from people around her, but it was already nightfall, and no one was passing by the bench. The nearest place with traffic and pedestrians was several hundred feet away.
Susan could only clutch her bag, bending over and taking one step at a time, hoping to reach a place where she could ask someone to call an ambulance.
But after just a few steps, Susan couldn't bear the pain and fell to her knees!
The pain was similar to what she felt when giving birth to Hayden and Spring, and sweat was dripping from her forehead.
With one hand on her belly and the other on the ground, Susan knew the baby inside her was in serious trouble; otherwise, it wouldn't hurt this much.
Panicking, Susan tried her best to shout, "Help! Someone help me!"
After a few shouts, Susan collapsed in pain!
"What's happening over there?"
"It looks like a woman has fainted!"
At this moment, the sight of Susan collapsing caught the attention of a nearby couple.
The couple quickly walked over, but before they could reach her, a man in a light gray suit ran over ahead of them.
He reached out and held Susan in his arms, cupping her face and urgently shouting, "Susan, Susan? Wake up!"
At this moment, Susan, who was on the verge of fainting from the pain, saw that it was George, and a look of surprise flashed in her eyes.
"George, take me to the hospital quickly. I can't take it anymore!" Seeing George, Susan knew she was saved.
Hearing this, George quickly picked her up and turned to the couple, saying, "Please help me call a cab!"
"Okay." Seeing the urgency, the couple quickly went to hail a cab.
Fortunately, there was a cab right across the street. Soon, George was in the cab with Susan, and without even thanking the couple, the cab driver, seeing the emergency, quickly turned around and headed to the nearest hospital.
"George!" Susan grabbed George's hand.
"I'm here." George looked down at Susan's pale face, extremely worried.
Susan's hair was already half-wet, but the pain continued and seemed to be getting worse.
Her hair was damp with sweat, her face contorted in pain. "The baby," she gasped, her voice strained. "You have to save the baby..."
Hearing this, George was stunned!
"Baby?" George looked down at Susan's belly.
Susan's belly was still relatively flat, showing no signs of pregnancy.
In just a few seconds, George understood. She was pregnant, but not far along. Seeing her in such pain, the baby must be in trouble.
"Yes." Susan nodded with the last bit of strength she had, then closed her eyes, her brows tightly furrowed, and kept moaning.
"Please drive faster!" George, unable to think of anything else, held Susan and urged the cab driver.
It felt like an eternity before Susan woke up from her sleep.
Opening her sleepy eyes, Susan's eyes were still adjusting to the bright sunlight streaming in.
After blinking a couple of times, she saw someone sleeping at the foot of her hospital bed.
From the thick hair and the white shirt with a black tie, Susan knew it was George.
Susan wanted to turn over, but when she moved, she realized she had no feeling in her lower body. She couldn't even move, let alone turn over.
