Chapter 585 Indifference

Subsequently, Susan said, "He's been busy with the funeral these past two days and hasn't had a chance to talk to me at all."

Hearing this, Catherine nodded and said, "Seb is a sensible kid. He shouldn't be too hard on you. But since Carol has passed away, you should be more patient with him. He's surely feeling terrible inside."

"Yeah," Susan nodded.

At this moment, Todd, dressed in black, walked out of the funeral home.

Susan noticed that Todd had quite a bit of gray hair at his temples, and his eyes were red and swollen. He must be very sad too.

Seeing Todd, Susan lowered her head and greeted him, "Dad."

Todd nodded, then said to Catherine, "Given my current status, it's not appropriate for me to stay here for too long. How about we head back to the central district now?"

"Sure," Catherine nodded.

She then grabbed Susan's hand and said, "Susan, I'll be leaving now. Call me if you need anything."

"Okay," Susan nodded, holding back her tears.

Catherine then followed Todd away.

After they left, Susan's tears finally flowed.

She felt utterly helpless now and wished someone could comfort her. But it seemed like everyone she was close to was leaving her, making her even more sorrowful.

After a while, Susan finally mustered the courage to walk into the funeral home.

The funeral home was solemn, with a large photo of Carol hanging in the center. Many people were inside, and the sound of crying could be heard from time to time.

Susan walked in step by step.

Seeing Seb at that moment, Susan's heart broke.

He stood there with his head down, not looking at anyone, his eyes lifeless.

Susan wanted to go up and comfort him and explain, but she knew that no explanation would help now. Carol's last words had sentenced their love to death.

Susan walked up to Carol's photo and reached out to place the flowers she was holding beside it.

At that moment, Rylee saw Susan and walked up to her, snatching the flowers from her hand and throwing them to the ground, then pushing Susan hard!

Susan stumbled and fell to the ground.

Sitting there dejectedly, Susan didn't hurry to get up, her face full of guilt and sorrow.

Rylee pointed at Susan and angrily scolded, "How dare you come to offer flowers to my mom?"

Sitting on the ground, Susan looked at Rylee and said, "I… I just wanted to offer her my condolences."

"Condolences?" Rylee scoffed, her voice rising, oblivious to the murmurs rippling through the room. "If it weren't for you disrespecting her and arguing with her, how would she have fallen down the stairs? Susan, my mom hated you and your family from the start. I won't allow you to disgust her. Please get out immediately; you're not welcome here!"

Rylee's words caused the people present to start whispering, all looking at Susan with disdain.

Although Carol had done many things to wrong Susan, she was now dead, and Susan felt responsible for her death. So, being scolded by Rylee made Susan feel even more guilty.

The next moment, Susan slowly stood up and looked at Seb, hoping he would give her some support.

Seb stepped in front of Susan, their eyes meeting.

"Seb?" They were three feet apart, and he didn't step closer. Susan, with tears in her eyes, called out to him.

Seb's face was serious, showing no expression. When their eyes met, he showed no emotion, making Susan feel cold and anxious.

Seb coldly said to Susan, "You should leave. My mom didn't like you. Don't come back again."

Hearing this, Susan couldn't accept it. She stepped back, clutching her chest, and murmured, "I'm still your wife, Mom's daughter-in-law. I should be here for the funeral."

"That's not necessary," Seb said indifferently.

Rylee, satisfied with Seb's response, sneered and pushed Susan aside. "Seb's attitude is clear. You should leave. No one here welcomes you!"

At that moment, more people came to pay their respects, pushing Susan aside. The funeral continued in an orderly manner, and no one paid attention to Susan anymore.

Susan knew Seb wouldn't forgive her this time. She felt utterly hopeless and cold.

Her mind was a bit dazed, and she walked towards the door.

Just as she stepped out of the funeral home, she missed a step and was about to fall!

She didn't even instinctively try to balance herself, letting herself fall straight down.

At that moment, a strong arm caught the staggering Susan.

Susan looked up blankly and saw a handsome face, frowning.

"Be careful!" George frowned, looking at the pale Susan.

Susan couldn't help but ask, "Why are you here?"

On second thought, George was Seb's cousin, so naturally, he had to help out here.

She smiled at her own foolishness and turned to leave.

"Let me take you home," George reached out to support Susan again.

But Susan firmly pushed his hand away, refusing, "No, I can walk myself."

With that, she turned and walked away.

Watching Susan's back, George frowned.

At that moment, Jessica, who had witnessed the entire scene from behind George, sneered. "She doesn't appreciate your help. I suggest you mind your own business!"
