Chapter 51 Distracted
Seb glanced at Susan. "A business partner asked if my image consultant was complimentary."
Susan burst out laughing.
"You're still laughing?" Seb frowned, looking uncomfortable.
It was the first time Susan had seen him like this. Worried she'd really upset him, she quickly stifled her laughter. "Your outfit today is a bit much, but it's not bad. It just doesn't match your usual style. These clothes were meant to go with your black suit. Look, this sky-blue shirt with a black suit would look sharp, and this burgundy tie with a black shirt would be classy. This silver suit with a white shirt would soften your look, make you seem more refined."
Seb seemed to take her words to heart and walked over to the mirror to try out the combinations she mentioned.
Seeing Seb change even a little warmed Susan's heart. Though he still wasn't very talkative, he at least exchanged a few words with her.
That night, they shared a bed. Because she was pregnant, they couldn't do much, but the occasional physical contact felt nice. Susan didn't mind it at all.
For a whole week, Susan spent most of her time in bed. It wasn't because she was lazy, but because Kathy was strictly following Seb's orders.
Except for eating and going to the bathroom, Kathy wouldn't let Susan do anything else. She prepared a lot of dishes for every meal, and various soups were a daily staple. In her twenty-five years, Susan had never lived so decadently. In just over a week, she had gained five pounds, and her pregnancy symptoms seemed to be slowly improving.
One afternoon, feeling bored, Susan couldn't help but send Seb a WhatsApp message.
Susan: [Dear Mr. Anderson, could you ask Kathy to let me go out for a walk? I'm about to go moldy.]
Seb, who was in a meeting, couldn't help but smile when he saw the message and immediately replied.
Seb: [If you're going moldy, I'll take you out to get some sun tomorrow.]
Susan didn't expect such a quick reply, and he even wanted to take her out to get some sun. 'Does that mean he's taking me on a trip?' The thought made her very happy, and she quickly typed a reply.
Susan: [Great, great! Where are you taking me to get some sun tomorrow?]
Seb held his phone tightly in his hand, his eyes on the executives who were giving a presentation. Feeling a slight vibration from his phone, he quickly redirected his gaze and glanced at the screen.
Seeing Susan's reply, he typed a few words back: [The old house in the central district.]
When Susan saw these words, she was shocked. 'The old house in the central district? That's Seb's parents' home. Is he taking me home? Oh my God,' she thought, her heart starting to race.
[If you have something to do at home, just go. Don't worry about me. Kathy is here to take care of me.] Susan thought for a moment and quickly sent a WhatsApp message back.
But in her mind, she was wondering, 'What does Seb mean by this? Why is he suddenly taking me home? Do Todd and Carol know about our marriage?'
When Seb saw the message, he couldn't help but smile again. He knew she was pretending to be clueless and was probably very nervous, so he mischievously typed another message.
Seb: [I've already told my parents about our marriage. They want to meet you. Get ready, we're leaving early tomorrow morning.]
Susan was stunned when she received this message. 'Oh my God! I am completely unprepared for this.' After replying to Seb, she quickly put on her shoes and went to find Kathy.
[Okay.] That was Susan's reply to Seb.
Seeing those words, Seb could almost picture Susan's bewildered reaction and couldn't help but smile. This time, he really laughed out loud.
The executives present were surprised to see him suddenly smile, as Seb was usually very reserved, especially during such an important meeting. It seemed like Seb had been distracted more than once today.
At that moment, the executive giving the report put down his materials and said, "Mr. Anderson, I've finished my report."
It took Seb a couple of seconds to react. He quickly put down his phone, sat up straight, and said, "Very good, let's move on to the next topic."
The executive hesitated for a moment and then cautiously reminded him, "Mr. Anderson, didn't you say you wanted to make some comments on this matter?"
"Oh, come to my office after the meeting. I have a few questions to discuss with you in detail. Let's not take up everyone's time here." Seb's tone was very sincere, and the executive, thinking Seb valued his report, sat down with a sense of pride.
Seb was a quick thinker. He had been distracted just now and hadn't fully listened to the report. Since the matter was quite important, he would have to catch up on it in his office later.
Susan ran to the kitchen to find Kathy and pulled her to the living room sofa.
"Mrs. Anderson, I'm still making soup!" Kathy frowned.
"The soup can simmer a bit longer. Kathy, Seb is taking me to the old house in the central district tomorrow." Susan looked troubled.
Hearing this, Kathy laughed and said, "Mrs. Susan Anderson, as you and Mr. Seb Anderson are married, it would be fitting for you to visit Mrs. Carol Anderson and Mr. Todd Anderson.."
"I know, but I'm very nervous. Tell me about Todd and Carol's personalities, what kind of girls they like, what I should wear, and what gifts to bring?" Susan's mind was in a whirl.
Kathy thought for a moment and replied, "Mr. Anderson is very kind. As long as you're polite and respectful, there shouldn't be any issues with him. Mrs. Anderson, on the other hand, is sharp and shrewd. I've been with the Anderson family for many years and still don't know what kind of girls she likes."
"What do you mean?" Susan had a feeling that Carol might be difficult.
"None of the girls Mr. Anderson has met since childhood have ever met her standards." Kathy was straightforward. She had come to understand that Susan was a good person, so she told her the truth.
"What?" Hearing this, Susan felt doomed.
Seeing Susan's stressed expression, Kathy quickly comforted her, "Mrs. Anderson, don't lose heart. You're already married to Mr. Seb Anderson. Even if Mrs. Carol Anderson doesn't like you, she has to accept you. Just try to win her over!"
Susan thought about it and nodded.
