Chapter 1379 Mother and Son Reunion
At that moment, Cecilia glanced at the rear window of the car.
But the window was pitch black, and she couldn't see anything. He, on the other hand, should be able to see everything. Was he watching her now?
Cecilia hesitated for a couple of seconds. The rear window remained tightly shut; he hadn't rolled down the glass.
The next moment, Cecilia spoke firmly, "Douglas, I'll walk over myself. Thanks."
Seeing the determination in Cecilia's eyes, Douglas hesitated for a moment before rolling up the window and driving away quickly.
Cecilia watched the car disappear into the distance. Soon, it was out of sight.
She looked ahead. The road was nearly empty, and she couldn't see the bus stop Douglas had mentioned, which was still two miles away. Cecilia glanced down at her high-heeled boots, pressed her lips together, and resolutely started walking.
Douglas drove a few hundred feet before hitting the brakes, slowing the car down.
"Mr. Fields?" Douglas asked cautiously, glancing at Daryl in the rearview mirror.
Daryl was leaning back in the leather seat, eyes slightly closed, brows lightly furrowed. Douglas couldn't read Daryl's emotions and felt a wave of nervousness.
A few seconds later, Daryl opened his eyes and said, "Call a cab for her."
Douglas immediately understood and stepped on the gas, heading towards a busier area.
After walking for a while, Cecilia saw a taxi approaching. She quickly raised her hand to flag it down.
When the taxi stopped beside her, Cecilia was delighted to find it was empty. She smiled, feeling lucky. She had thought she might have to walk all the way to the bus stop.
It was getting late, and it would take over an hour to reach the Fields Mansion to see Thaddeus by taxi.
Tonight, she couldn't take Thaddeus to a hotel because she had to accompany Elowen for hair and makeup early the next morning.
As dusk fell, Cecilia arrived at the gates of the Fields Mansion.
The security guard at the gate greeted her, "Ms. Thorne, you're here?"
"Yeah," Cecilia nodded.
Since her divorce from Daryl, she had asked everyone at the Fields Mansion to address her differently, which felt much more comfortable.
"Ms. Thorne, you're here? Mrs. Fields has been waiting for you. Thaddeus has been asking about you too," Finn greeted her warmly as she reached the foyer.
Hearing Thaddeus's name, Cecilia couldn't contain her eagerness. She smiled at Finn and then turned to enter the living room.
"Cecilia, you're here?" Azalea stood up from the sofa, looking kindly at Cecilia.
"Mommy, mommy!" Thaddeus saw Cecilia and wobbled over to her.
"Hello, Mrs. Fields," Cecilia greeted, as Thaddeus ran over and hugged her leg.
When Thaddeus hugged her leg, Cecilia couldn't help but bend down, pick him up, and kiss his cheek. "Thaddeus, did you miss mommy?"
"Yes," Thaddeus could only manage one word to express himself.
"Mommy missed you too." Hearing his tender voice, Cecilia hugged Thaddeus tightly, her eyes welling up.
As Azalea saw Cecilia and Thaddeus's emotional reunion, her eyes glistened with tears.
Azalea then smiled and said, "Let's sit and talk. Finn, bring some fruit and snacks for Cecilia."
"Sure thing," Finn replied.
But Cecilia looked up and smiled at Azalea, "Mrs. Fields, I'd like to spend some time alone with Thaddeus, if that's okay?"
"Of course. Why don't you take Thaddeus to his room?" Azalea suggested.
"Thank you," Cecilia said, then carried Thaddeus to his room.
Watching Cecilia leave with Thaddeus, Azalea turned to Finn and asked, "Did you tell the kitchen to prepare Cecilia's favorite dishes?"
"You've reminded me several times. The kitchen has been preparing them," Finn replied with a smile.
Azalea said, "Elijah and Elowen worked hard to create this opportunity for Daryl and Cecilia. We need to help push things along."
"Don't worry. I think everything will be fine. Look how much Ms. Thorne loves her son? And he's so attached to her. No mother can be heartless. For her son's sake, Ms. Thorne will reconcile," Finn reassured Azalea.
Hearing this, Azalea nodded. "I see Daryl is very down lately. I'm just afraid he won't try hard enough."
Finn smiled, "Didn't you notice he came home early today? He must know Ms. Thorne is visiting her son."
Azalea's face lit up with joy. "You're right. I didn't think of that. Daryl never comes home this early."
Cecilia held Thaddeus, singing nursery rhymes and playing with his toys, occasionally kissing his chubby cheeks.
After more than a month apart, Cecilia felt he had grown. The thought of not being able to be with her son all the time made her heart ache.
Over an hour later, in the living room.
Azalea paced back and forth. Finn approached and said, "The food is ready. Should we invite Ms. Thorne to dinner?"
Azalea replied, "Not yet. She probably wants to spend more time with Thaddeus."
"Okay," Finn answered.
Daryl sat on a single sofa, holding a newspaper, his head down, reading silently.
Night had fallen outside when Cecilia finally emerged from Thaddeus's room, holding him.
Seeing Cecilia come out, Azalea quickly approached, smiling, "Cecilia, I've had the kitchen prepare your favorite dishes. Let's eat. Thaddeus must be hungry too."
Cecilia smiled and handed Thaddeus to Freya, "Freya, take Thaddeus to eat."
"Okay," Freya nodded.
But Thaddeus kept calling, "Mommy, mommy."
Cecilia quickly went to soothe him, "Thaddeus, be good. Let Freya feed you, and mommy will play with you later, okay?"
"Yes, I'll feed you your favorite food," Freya coaxed, handing Thaddeus his favorite toy car.
Thaddeus, being so young, was soon distracted and let Freya carry him to the dining room.
