Chapter 911 Escape
The nurse walked in, carrying a bunch of yellow roses that were still fresh and dewy.
She placed them in a crystal vase by the bedside, instantly brightening up the dull hospital room.
"Mr. Johnson brought these himself," the nurse said with a smile as she arranged the flowers.
Isabella's lips twitched when she saw the yellow roses.
Yellow roses meant an apology, and Isabella got the message loud and clear.
The flowers made her feel a bit better, but she couldn't help thinking, 'Seriously? You forgive him with a bouquet of flowers? What a joke.'
"Where is he?" Isabella glanced at the door, but it was empty, so she asked.
The nurse paused, then said, "Oh, Mr. Johnson didn't want to disturb you, so he left."
Isabella didn't say anything, just lowered her eyes, deep in thought.
She stayed in the hospital for two days before they told her she could go home.
She was glad this happened in Averlake, where no one knew her. Otherwise, she'd be super embarrassed.
Isabella didn't bother asking the nurse to call Leon. She went back to the hotel alone.
When she got there, Susan and Seb were out with Hayden and Spring, and Leon was nowhere to be seen.
She had the front desk open Leon's room so she could grab his stuff and head to the airport.
After thinking it over for two days, Isabella decided she didn't want to deal with Leon anymore. She didn't want him to think she was clinging to him, even though she had feelings for him.
Honestly, she didn't regret it. She had sex with a guy she liked, even if he didn't like her back and they couldn't be together.
Just as she was about to leave with his luggage, the door swung open, and Leon walked in.
"Why didn't you tell me you were leaving the hospital?" he asked, looking worried.
Isabella turned away and said coldly, "We have nothing to do with each other. Why should I tell you?"
Leon was speechless.
Seeing his disappointed look out of the corner of her eye, Isabella's heart ached.
After a moment, Leon said sadly, "Is there really nothing between us?"
"What do you think?" Isabella asked, looking at him.
Leon frowned and hesitated.
Isabella gave a bitter smile and said, "At most, we're just bed partners now, right?"
She could see in his eyes that he didn't have feelings for her. Last night was just a random hookup.
"Isabella, why do you make it sound so bad? By saying that, you're insulting both of us," Leon said, looking at her with pained eyes.
Isabella was at a loss for words after what Leon said. After a moment, she grabbed her suitcase and said, "Look, whatever happened, we have nothing to do with each other. I'm heading home now. Just letting you know since we came here together."
With that, she started to walk out, dragging her suitcase behind her.
Leon frowned and quickly grabbed her wrist.
Before she could say anything, Leon said, "The airport's pretty far. Let me drive you."
"No thanks, I'll get a cab," Isabella said, shaking off his hand and walking away.
As she left the hotel, tears welled up in her eyes.
Life had thrown a lot at her—losing loved ones, family indifference—but she'd always stayed strong. This time, though, she couldn't hold back the tears.
She admitted to herself that she had feelings for Leon, but he was way out of her league, surrounded by amazing women, and he didn't feel the same. So, she decided to cut ties to avoid getting hurt even more.
In the cab, she felt down, watching the scenery blur by.
She regretted coming to Avaloria; her impulsiveness had cost her dearly.
Glancing back, Isabella noticed a familiar car.
The model and license plate clicked in her mind—it was the car that had been driving her and Susan around.
The cab turned a corner, and the car was still following.
She looked back and saw a familiar face behind the wheel.
Her heart tightened.
She couldn't see Leon's expression clearly from the distance, but she knew he was following to make sure she got to the airport safely.
Turning back, her emotions were all over the place.
'Why is he following me? Is it just to make sure I'm safe? Or is it because of guilt? Maybe he feels sorry for me because it was my first sex?' she thought, feeling even more sorrowful.
Half an hour later, they reached the airport.
Isabella got out, pulling her suitcase, ready to head inside.
But when she turned around, she saw Leon standing not far away.
He looked a bit worn out, his deep eyes fixed on her.
Seeing him, she felt a wave of sadness.
Their eyes met briefly, but he didn't come closer, just watched her from a distance.
She tightened her grip on the suitcase handle and walked into the terminal.
She sat there for a long time until the boarding announcement came.
As she was about to head to the gate, a kid with a small, pretty fruit basket ran up to her.
"Hi, he sent this to you," the kid said, pointing.
She looked and saw Leon standing not far away, looking her way.
He hadn't left, and Isabella was stunned.
