Chapter 825 Make The Most Of It
Seeing Seb's skeptical look, Ellie blurted out, "What? You don't believe me?"
"No, it's just... this sounds kinda crazy, right?" Seb said, frowning.
Ellie shot back, "Oh, you haven't heard the craziest part yet!"
"So, what happened next?" Seb pressed.
Ellie glanced at him and continued, "Well, out of nowhere, Susan got pregnant. And she worked for the Prosperity Group."
"What?" Seb's jaw dropped.
It took him a moment to gather himself. "And then?"
"Then? You married Susan for the kid," Ellie replied.
"Why did we get divorced later?" Seb asked, still puzzled.
Ellie sneered. "You two had no real connection. Different backgrounds, different lives. Did you really think that marriage would work? Plus, Susan's dad was always hitting you up for money. Your mom didn't like her either. So, you got divorced. But then Hayden got leukemia, and the doctor said you needed another kid to save him. So, you had Spring with Susan. You felt guilty and remarried her."
"I remarried Susan?" Seb shook his head, trying to remember.
Ellie went on, "But it didn't last. You divorced again because of Andrew."
"Because of Andrew?" Seb asked, frowning.
"Yeah, you found out Andrew and Susan used to be a thing. You thought they were plotting against you and Rylee. Plus, your mom's dying wish was for you to divorce Susan. You didn't really love her, so you did. But you made sure to transfer some assets to her and promised she could see Hayden and Spring anytime. You did your best. Susan had an ulterior motive, and I'm not just saying that. If you don't believe me, check it out," Ellie said.
"How could I not trust you?" Seb said softly, though he still thought the story was a mess.
"So, when did we get together?" he asked.
Ellie took his hand and smiled. "You forgot when we got together?"
"Sorry, I can't remember anything about my love life. No idea why," Seb said, rubbing his head.
Ellie quickly said, "Don't stress about it. Thinking too much will just give you a headache."
"Okay," Seb nodded. "Then tell me."
Ellie nodded and said gently, "Ever since I became your secretary, we both had feelings for each other. But at that time, you were entangled with Susan and dealing with Hayden's illness. You didn't have time for personal stuff. Plus, you didn't want to wrong Susan. So, we only got together after your second divorce."
Seb listened, staring blankly at her.
Ellie's eyes lit up as she held Seb's hand, smiling softly. "Don't be confused. I didn't want to bring up the past because I was afraid it would just make you feel worse. You've been trying so hard to be a good husband and father, but things kept falling apart. Look at those deep wrinkles between your brows."
She raised her hand and gently smoothed the wrinkles on Seb's forehead with her fingertips, her gaze so tender.
Seb looked at her and asked softly, "Have you been waiting for me all these years?"
Ellie lowered her eyes and then smiled bitterly. "Yeah, but I think it was worth it. We're finally happy together now."
She leaned on Seb's shoulder, her hand resting on his chest.
Seb furrowed his brows again and then reached out to hold her shoulder.
Ellie smiled. "Honestly, I'm kind of grateful for this car accident. It made you forget all the bad stuff from the past. Now we can just be happy."
After a long pause, Seb said, "I have this feeling."
"What feeling?" Ellie asked, a bit startled.
"I feel like I was really, really tired before, but I can't remember why," Seb replied.
Ellie smiled. "A lot happened in the past. Don't overthink it. The most important thing now is to get better."
"Okay." Seb nodded.
A few days later, Susan finally got a call from Leon.
"Leon, is there a chance I can see Seb?" Susan asked eagerly.
Leon replied in a low voice, "Tomorrow at ten in the morning, Ellie will be at a board meeting. You'll have two hours."
Susan was thrilled but frowned. "Even if Ellie leaves, I can't get into the ward. There are two bodyguards outside who won't let anyone in."
"Don't worry. I'll handle the bodyguards," Leon said.
Susan beamed. "Thank you, Leon."
"I can only help you this much. Make it count," Leon said before hanging up.
After the call, Susan couldn't contain her excitement. She opened her closet and started looking for something to wear.
She found a light blue embroidered dress. Holding it up in front of the mirror, she remembered buying it with Seb years ago. He had said she looked gentle and serene in it, a stark contrast to her usual fiery self.
This dress held their memories. To help him remember her, Susan decided to wear it, hoping it would jog his memory.
The next morning at nine, Susan left the house.
She waited at the hospital entrance until she saw Seb's car leave. It was ten minutes to ten, and she knew Ellie must be inside. She quickly walked into the hospital.
When Susan reached Seb's ward, she found the two bodyguards gone.
Susan felt a surge of joy, thinking, 'Leon is true to his word.'
