Chapter 93 Passing Strangers
"You really have feelings for her? She's married with kids, just forget it!" George waved dismissively.
Seb was taken aback, then scoffed, "I don't go for married, pregnant women!"
Ignoring George, he opened the door and left.
"He really got mad," George said, shaking his head with a smile as he watched Seb leave.
Seb walked downstairs with a dark expression, got into the car, and said, "Drive!"
Leon, the driver, was puzzled. Seb seemed fine earlier. "Mr. Anderson, where to?"
"Anywhere!" Seb snapped.
Leon was stumped but didn't ask more. He just started driving.
Seb stared out the window, thinking, 'Susan, you're something else. Married and pregnant in just six months!'
Images of Susan and Henry flashed in his mind, and he clenched his fists.
Seeing Seb's grim face in the rearview mirror, Leon changed direction, hoping a different route might help.
That day, Susan hid in her office all morning. After confirming Seb had left, she finally came out.
She prayed Seb wouldn't visit the firm often, or she might have to quit.
The next month was peaceful. Seb never showed up at the firm again, even though they signed a contract with Prosperity Group.
Seb also stayed out of Susan's life.
Susan mocked herself, 'Did you really think Seb was still into you? He was probably just mad and jealous. You meant nothing to him.'
She never asked Isabella if Seb had married Cynthia, and since that incident, Isabella never mentioned Seb again.
Maybe Seb was happy with Cynthia. Thinking of this made Susan feel bitter.
That evening, Susan worked late. When she reached the building entrance, it was raining.
The late summer rain was chilly, and Susan didn't have an umbrella. As she hesitated, a black Range Rover stopped in front of her.
Susan frowned, and the driver's window rolled down, revealing George. "Get in, I'll give you a ride!"
"Sure," Susan said, realizing it would be hard to get a taxi.
After she got in, George started the car.
"My place is nearby, you can drop me at the corner," Susan said with a smile.
"Okay." George sneezed several times during the short drive.
"Mr. Anderson, do you have a cold?" Susan asked, frowning.
"A bit," George nodded.
"Then you should take some medicine," Susan reminded him.
"I'm strong, I'll be fine soon," George said confidently.
Susan could only smile.
Just then, Susan's phone rang!
Seeing it was Isabella, Susan quickly answered.
"When are you coming back? I'm at your door with groceries. Let's have a good meal tonight," Isabella said.
"Okay, I'll be there in two minutes." Susan hung up.
In this city, Isabella was her best friend. She often bought groceries to improve Susan's life, so Susan was very grateful.
"We're here, Mr. Anderson. See you tomorrow!" Susan waved to George and quickly got out, using her bag to shield her head from the rain.
Watching Susan run in the wind and rain, George admired her for a moment before driving away.
Susan gave George the impression of being practical, hardworking, straightforward, and fair. She never played office politics or flattered superiors. George valued her highly and trusted her with important tasks, which she always handled well.
Half-wet, Susan went upstairs and saw Isabella at the door with groceries, smiling knowingly.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Susan asked, knowing what Isabella was thinking.
"Come on, spill it. Who's the guy driving the Range Rover?" Isabella asked as Susan unlocked the door.
"How are your eyes so sharp?" Susan rolled her eyes and went inside.
"Hey, this building faces the street. I saw everything from the hallway window. The Range Rover didn't leave until ten seconds after you got out. What does that mean? The guy inside definitely has a thing for you!" Isabella analyzed while changing her shoes.
"Please, that was my boss. He just gave me a ride because it was raining. Otherwise, I would've gotten soaked!" Susan took the groceries from Isabella and headed to the kitchen.
Isabella followed her. "So what if he's your boss? It's not the first time you've attracted a boss."
Susan froze at those words!
Realizing her mistake, Isabella slapped her own mouth. "My mouth always says the wrong things. I deserve a slap!"
But this time, Susan didn't mind. She smiled and explained, "George is a lawyer, the most famous young lawyer in Maple Valley. He runs a big law firm and, more importantly, he's quite good-looking. How could someone like him be interested in a divorced woman like me?"
"Don't sell yourself short. You never know, a second marriage might be even better!" Isabella nudged Susan while washing vegetables.
Susan didn't want to argue and quickly changed the subject. The two chatted and ate dinner together.
By nine o'clock, the wind and rain outside hadn't stopped, so Isabella decided to stay over.
At that moment, Susan exclaimed, "Oh no! I lost my phone."
"Yeah, I haven't seen your phone all evening," Isabella frowned.
"Oh, I remember now. I must have left it in George's car!" Susan recalled the last time she used her phone was in George's car, answering Isabella's call.
