Chapter 966 The Confrontation Between Two Men

Catching a glimpse of Leon's pitiful look, Isabella just couldn't take it anymore.

She yanked the blanket over her head and mumbled, "I'm tired, don't talk to me."

Leon, seeing her act all childish, couldn't help but smile a bit. He said softly, "Alright, I won't talk. You just rest. I'll stay here with you."

Hearing that, Isabella felt a mix of emotions. She couldn't wrap her head around why he treated her and their kid so poorly back then if he really cared about them.

The room got so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

Isabella glanced through a gap in the blanket and saw him sitting silently, smiling slightly.

Seeing this, she felt a pang of sadness, turned over, and shut her eyes, hoping to fall asleep quickly because his presence made her feel super uneasy.

In the evening, an unexpected guest showed up in the ward.

Alfonso walked in holding a bouquet of flowers. As soon as he entered, Leon stood up, gave him a cold look, and asked, "What are you doing here?"

Seeing Alfonso, Isabella was also taken aback. Hearing Leon's cold words, she immediately shouted, "Alfonso is my friend, he's here to see me!"

Leon locked eyes with Alfonso for a moment, then surprisingly said, "Please come in."

Alfonso walked to Isabella's bedside with the flowers and looked at her with concern. "Are you okay? I heard from Kathy that you were hospitalized, so I came to see you."

"Thank you, I'm fine." Isabella glanced at the bruises on Alfonso's face and felt really guilty and apologetic.

Alfonso's injuries were way worse than Leon's. Leon had really gone to town on him.

At that moment, Leon suddenly brought over a glass of water and placed it in front of Alfonso. "There's only water here, please make do."

Alfonso looked at Leon and said, "Thank you."

"No problem, it's the least I can do. You're here to see my wife and kid, so it's my job to make you feel welcome." Leon's face was expressionless, but his tone had a hint of authority.

"Leon, what nonsense are you talking about?" Isabella protested with a frown.

Then, out of nowhere, Leon suddenly bowed to Alfonso and said, "Mr. Carr, I apologize for hitting you last time and causing you injury. Please forgive me!"

Both Alfonso and Isabella were shocked by Leon's apology.

Alfonso was dumbfounded and didn't know what to say.

Isabella stared at Leon in extreme surprise, unable to believe he would apologize.

Then Leon looked at Alfonso with a domineering gaze and said, "But I don't regret it. If it happens again, I'll do the same. I apologize not because I think I was wrong, but because Isabella won't let it go. She's carrying my kid now, and I can't let her get upset, so I have to do as she says."

Isabella touched her head, not knowing what to say.

She knew Leon couldn't possibly apologize to Alfonso willingly; he had to have a reason.

At this moment, Alfonso said, "Mr. Johnson, I accept your apology, but I'm not forgiving you. I'm doing this for Isabella's sake; I don't want to make things difficult for her!"

Alfonso and Leon were totally at odds. They were still considering Isabella's feelings; otherwise, they would've thrown down again.

Right then, Isabella turned to Leon and said, "I need to talk to Alfonso alone. You should leave first!"

She knew if she didn't get Leon to leave, there might be more drama, and she had some things to clear up with Alfonso. She couldn't let him suffer for no reason anymore.

But when Leon heard this, he frowned. He found it hard to give them some privacy to talk.

"Did you hear me?" Isabella frowned, seeing Leon just standing there.

"I've got something to do outside. I'll be back in half an hour." He looked at his watch.

He meant he'd only be gone for half an hour, and they could only talk for that long.

Then, Leon turned and left the ward.

After he left, Isabella smiled and invited Alfonso to sit down.

"I'm sorry, he's got a bad temper, but he's kind-hearted. For my sake, please don't hold it against him," Isabella said apologetically.

Alfonso looked up at her.

Isabella felt a bit uncomfortable under his gaze. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"You still love him," Alfonso replied.

Isabella immediately retorted, "No, I only hate him now!"

But she felt guilty because she lied.

"Isabella, stop fooling yourself. I love you too, but you should go back to him. It's clear he loves you too. Maybe you guys just have some misunderstanding," Alfonso said, sadness in his eyes.

His words left Isabella speechless. After a while, she said, "He wanted to kill my kid back then. I will never forgive him for that. But I don't want to deceive you either. I won't be entering another relationship anytime soon, so don't waste your time on me. Find a good girl who matches you. You're not young anymore; it's time to get married and have kids."

"I will. I hope we can still be friends," Alfonso said, looking at her.

Isabella smiled. "Of course, we're still friends. Just because you're a lawyer, I have to keep you as a friend. If I ever need to go to court, I won't have to pay lawyer fees."

"That won't work. My future wife wouldn't agree to that. I can give you a discount!" Alfonso joked.

"You're so stingy!" Isabella laughed.

She was happy they had finally cleared things up and could still be friends.

Alfonso didn't stay for the full half-hour. He left after about ten minutes, joking that he was afraid of getting beaten up again.

When Leon walked back into the ward, he was pleased not to have run into Alfonso.

Seeing Isabella leaning on the bed, ignoring him, Leon looked around and awkwardly said, "He was sensible enough to leave early, otherwise..."

"Otherwise what?" Isabella looked up at Leon, cutting him off.
