Chapter 284 Mommy's Two Swollen Balls

In the early morning, with sleep still clinging to her, Susan was stirred from her slumber by Isabella's voice.

"Hurry and get your shot. I'll watch Spring," Isabella said.

"Okay." Susan nodded, changed clothes, and headed to the clinic nearby.

But there was a note on the clinic door saying the doctor was out for the day.

Susan felt frustrated. She hadn't breastfed for a whole day and night, and her breasts were painfully engorged.

If she went to another clinic, it would take at least half an hour, and Isabella would miss her train.

Reluctantly, Susan made the decision to turn back home.

When she got back, Spring was still asleep. Isabella asked, "Did you get the shot?"

"Yes." Susan lied to avoid worrying Isabella, letting her leave for her trip in peace.

Isabella grabbed her suitcase and headed out. "I'm off. Call if there's an emergency!"

"Got it." Susan nodded.

It was Saturday, and soon Seb called, saying he wanted to bring Hayden over because Hayden missed Susan and Spring.

Susan wanted to refuse since she was weaning Spring and feeling unwell. But hearing that Hayden missed them, she softened and agreed.

Since their last argument, Seb hadn't shown up for a month.

When Seb brought Hayden over, he just called and let Hayden come up alone. Sometimes Seb would pick up Hayden, sometimes he sent Leon, or let Hayden go down by himself, avoiding Susan.

But Susan didn't mind. It was less awkward this way.

After Hayden came up, Spring woke up and started crying. Susan's chest hurt badly, making her collapse on the bed in pain. Yet, Hayden was very considerate, helping with Spring and getting water for Susan.

At noon, despite her aches, Susan made lunch for Hayden and Spring.

Hayden ate heartily. Spring, though unhappy, was hungry and started eating too. Susan felt a bit relieved.

By the afternoon, Susan was lying in bed, unable to move. Her breasts were so swollen that even a light touch was painful, and her whole body ached. She knew she had a fever.

Susan took some fever-reducing medicine, but after two hours, she felt worse.

Spring, snuggling beside Susan, started crying again. Susan had no strength to take care of her and could only look at her with a pained expression.

"Spring, I feel terrible. Please stop crying, okay?" Susan's voice was weak.

Seeing this, Hayden became anxious.

He held Spring's chubby hand, trying to calm her with toys and food. "Spring, be good. Mommy's sick, okay?"

But Spring was too young to understand. She threw everything Hayden gave her to the ground and kept tugging at Susan's clothes.

Susan's chest was already in severe pain, and Spring's pulling made it worse. She started to moan.

"Stop touching Mommy!" Hayden anxiously pushed Spring to the edge of the bed.

Spring got upset and started crying loudly.

Seeing Spring cry, Susan felt a pang in her heart. She tried to get up but was in too much pain.

Hayden, seeing the chaos, was at a loss. He grabbed Susan's phone and hid in the bathroom to make a call, knowing Susan wouldn't let him call Seb if she knew.

As soon as the call connected, Seb answered immediately.

"Hello?" Seb knew Susan wouldn't call unless it was urgent, especially since he had just dropped Hayden off.

"Daddy, come quick! Mommy's sick, Spring won't stop crying, and it's chaos here!" Hayden said.

Hearing Susan was sick, Seb's tone became urgent. "What's wrong with your mommy?"

Hayden whimpered, "Mommy's chest is swollen, and it hurts when Spring touches it!"

"What kind of illness is that?" Seb was anxious but confused.

"I don't know." Hayden was frustrated.

"I'll be right there. Watch over Mommy and open the door when I knock, okay?" Seb was already on his way.

"Got it." Hayden nodded.

In about fifteen minutes, there was a rapid knock on the door.

Lying on the sofa bed with a fever, Susan vaguely heard the knocking but couldn't get up. She couldn't even take care of the crying Spring beside her.

Susan felt dejected, her eyes moist not from her own discomfort but from her helplessness in the face of Spring's cries.

In her daze, she saw Hayden run to open the door. She wanted to stop him but was too late. She didn't know who was outside, and with just her and the kids at home, safety was a concern.

Amidst the haze, Susan glimpsed Seb clad in a sharp black suit entering the room. He glanced at her on the sofa bed, then touched her forehead, frowning deeply.

Seb picked up the still-crying Spring and handed her to a middle-aged woman behind him. He then leaned forward and lifted Susan into his arms.

Susan felt herself being lifted, and in her dazed state, she felt a dizzying whirl. She closed her eyes, not knowing anything, but her subconscious was still worried about Hayden and Spring.

Susan felt like she slept for a long time. She felt herself being held in a broad embrace, snuggling against a firm chest, feeling extremely comfortable and safe.

She didn't know how long she slept, but suddenly she woke up with a start!

Opening her sleepy eyes, she saw a white ceiling and sat up abruptly, mumbling, "Spring? Hayden?"
