Chapter 201 Unstable Pregnancy

George looked at Susan and said, "If I move, it'll mess up your crying."

Susan laughed through her tears, wiping them with a tissue. "I can't believe you just did that!"!" she said, giving him a push.

"Seeing you smile makes me feel better," George said, standing up. "My legs were going numb!"

Watching George try to cheer her up, Susan felt a wave of sadness. What if she had met George first?

Unfortunately, life doesn't work with 'what ifs.' If it did, people wouldn't have any troubles.

Susan stayed in the hospital for a few more days. George hired a caregiver to look after her when he couldn't be there.

One day, Susan lay in bed in her hospital gown. George had just come back from court and was peeling an apple for her.

"When can I leave?" Susan asked, frustrated with the all-white room.

"The doctor says your pregnancy is unstable. You need to stay a few more days," George replied.

"I can't stand it here," Susan said, irritated by the smell of disinfectant and the silence.

George frowned. "What are your plans after you get out?"

Susan didn't know where to go; she couldn't return home or travel to Lindell Harbor due to her condition.

Seeing her hesitate, George suggested, "You could stay at my place. I live alone, and I have a housekeeper who comes to clean and cook. Once you're better, you can figure out your next steps."

"No way, I can't stay at your place," Susan said immediately.

"Do you have a better option?" George asked, frowning.

Susan was torn. She couldn't go home; Catherine finding out about the pregnancy would be a disaster. She couldn't stay with Isabella either; her place was already crowded.

"I'll stay at a hotel," Susan decided. She could find a cheap motel and stay there for a while, even though her savings were low.

George got anxious and accidentally cut his finger with the knife. Blood stained the apple.

"What happened?" Susan asked, sitting up.

"It's nothing, just a small cut. I'll rinse it in the bathroom," George said, pressing his finger and heading to the bathroom.

Susan glanced at the half-peeled apple on the table. The small bloodstain stood out.

She felt uneasy. She knew George cared a lot, but she didn't want to burden him more or give him false hope.

George came out of the bathroom with his finger wrapped in tissue.

"Let me see if it's bad," Susan said.

"It's just a small cut, no big deal," George replied.

Seeing he didn't want to make a fuss, Susan didn't push. She looked down and after a pause, said, "I'm sorry."

George laughed. "What for?"

"I've troubled you again," she said, meeting his eyes.

George thought for a moment. "Susan, I'm just being a friend. I have no other intentions. I just want to help you and the baby. I hope she comes into this world safely."

Susan saw the sincerity in his eyes. She trusted him and maybe she was overthinking.

George continued, "The doctor said your body is weak and your pregnancy is unstable. You need to stay in bed for at least half a month. The first three months are risky. Your uterus was damaged during your last delivery. If you're not careful, it could lead to a miscarriage and future infertility."

Susan was surprised. The doctor hadn't been this blunt with her.

George added, "Doctors sometimes downplay things to keep patients calm but warn the family to be cautious."

Susan knew he was right.

"So, think about the baby. Isn't your biggest wish to bring her into this world safely? Staying in a hotel alone, you won't have anyone to help if something goes wrong," George gently persuaded.

Finally, Susan smiled. "You're a lawyer; I can't argue with you. I'll stay at your place for a few days, but it's only temporary!"

George was thrilled. "I'll go home and prepare. Tomorrow, I'll talk to the doctor about your discharge."

"Okay," Susan nodded.

George hurriedly left the ward.

As the door closed, Susan's smile faded. She felt powerless. She couldn't even take care of her baby without troubling George.

She thought, 'After half a month, once my pregnancy is stable, I 'll leave George's house.'
