Chapter 765 Hate Her
Susan saw how loving and patient Cecilia was with Spring, and she couldn't help but feel a bit envious of Spring's attachment to her, even as her mother. It seemed Cecilia had a way with kids, managing to win Spring over in such a short time and making her so obedient.
"Alright, Spring, go wash your hands and use the bathroom now," Cecilia said, standing up and giving Spring a gentle pat on the head.
"Okay," Spring replied, immediately turning and running to the bathroom.
As Cecilia turned around, Susan approached her with a smile. "Miss Thorne, thank you so much for all you've done for Hayden and Spring. They really like you."
Seeing Susan, Cecilia merely pulled her lips into a slight smile and said, "I'm their teacher; it's my duty. You don't need to thank me."
Hearing this, Susan picked up a set of cosmetics from the coffee table and said with a smile, "Miss Thorne, this is a set of cosmetics I bought during my trip to Ivory City. Please accept it as a gift."
Cecilia glanced at the cosmetics set in Susan's hand and declined, "I'm sorry, I can't accept your gift."
"It's just a small token of my appreciation, and you often give Spring things too," Susan said with a smile.
At this moment, Cecilia's eyes fell on the cosmetics set in Susan's hand, and she smiled faintly. "I only use basic cosmetics now. I think the set you bought isn't quite suitable for me. You should keep it for yourself. My sister has used this brand, and it's perfect for women your age."
Susan was stunned by this remark!
Although Susan wasn't a troublemaker, she could hear the underlying meaning in Cecilia's words.
She was implying that she was young, while Susan was old.
Susan felt a bit upset. What had she done to offend Cecilia? Why did she always seem to target her?
And today, she was giving her a set of cosmetics out of goodwill, but Cecilia took the opportunity to imply she was old.
Susan opened her mouth, wanting to retort, but held back.
After all, Cecilia was Hayden and Spring's tutor, and it wouldn't benefit her to have a falling out with her.
Respecting the teacher was important, so she decided to swallow her pride.
The next moment, Susan smiled and said, "In that case, I won't insist."
Just then, someone walked in through the foyer.
Susan looked up to see Seb, wearing a black cashmere coat, had returned.
"You're back?" Susan smiled slightly.
"Yes," Seb nodded at Susan, then turned his gaze to Cecilia. "Miss Thorne, did today's lesson just end?"
Cecilia took two steps forward, coming to stand in front of Seb, and smiled gently. "I was delayed by something today, so I started the lesson at three. I just finished."
"Why don't you stay for dinner?" Seb suggested, glancing at his watch and then politely inviting her.
Cecilia replied, "Thank you for the offer, Mr. Anderson, but there's no need. I'll take my leave now."
With that, Cecilia didn't even glance at Susan, nodded at Seb, and prepared to leave.
At that moment, Seb suddenly remembered something and called out to Cecilia, "Miss Thorne!"
"Yes?" Cecilia turned around, her delicate face glowing under the light.
"It's hard to get a cab at this hour. How about I give you a ride?" Seb suggested.
Hearing this, Cecilia didn't refuse. She smiled and said, "Mr. Anderson, if you have the time, I wouldn't mind taking the opportunity to discuss Hayden and Spring's education with you."
"Of course, I have the time. Please," Seb said, making a gesture for her to go ahead.
"Thank you," Cecilia smiled slightly and walked out first.
Throughout the entire exchange, Cecilia treated Susan as if she were invisible, making Susan feel very uncomfortable, though she couldn't pinpoint exactly why.
As Seb was about to leave, he suddenly turned to Susan and said, "I'll be back soon."
"Oh," Susan nodded blankly.
She couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right. Cecilia wouldn't accept her pumpkin soup, refused her gift, yet she readily accepted a ride from Seb. Was it simply because he was the one paying her salary?
After they both left, Mary started to grumble, "Don't let it bother you, Ms. Wilson. That Miss Thorne is arrogant and rude. Her manner is atrocious, not at all how a teacher should behave!"
"Maybe she's just too young and doesn't understand social etiquette yet," Susan said with a forced smile.
Mary then said, "To be honest, Miss Thorne used to be pleasant enough, but lately, she's been different, especially towards you."
"Really?" Susan asked Mary, puzzled.
"It's just a feeling I have. Anyway, I need to help Kathy with dinner," Mary said and quickly left.
If even Mary had noticed, then Susan's feelings were probably accurate. She couldn't recall any reason why she might have offended Cecilia.
Over half an hour later, the dishes were already on the table, but Seb still hadn't returned.
Sitting at the dining table, Hayden suddenly grabbed Susan's hand and asked, "Mommy, why isn't Daddy back yet?"
"Hayden, Daddy went to give Miss Thorne a ride. Let's be patient and wait a bit longer," Spring said, sounding like a little adult as she sat at the table.
At this moment, Hayden frowned and said, "Why does Daddy have to give her a ride? I hate Miss Thorne."
Hearing this, Susan turned to Hayden and asked, puzzled, "Hayden, why do you hate Miss Thorne? Doesn't she teach well?"
"She teaches well, but I don't like her as a person," Hayden replied, frowning.
Hearing this, Susan felt a bit uneasy.
"Hayden, you shouldn't speak ill of Miss Thorne. I think she's really nice!" Spring said.
Looking at Spring, Susan reassured her, "Hayden didn't say anything bad about Miss Thorne."
Then, Susan asked Mary to watch Spring while she took Hayden to his room.
After closing the door, Susan held Hayden's shoulders and asked seriously, "Hayden, tell me the truth. Why don't you like Miss Thorne? Is there something wrong with her?"
At this moment, Hayden lowered his head, looking like he wanted to say something but hesitated.
"Hayden, you know we don't keep secrets from each other, right? You can tell me anything," Susan said, sensing that something was wrong and continuing to press him.
