Chapter 778 Suffering
"Why are you being so stubborn? It's just a tutor! We can find another one easily." Seb's voice rose in frustration as Spring's sobs filled the room.
Seb's scolding only made Spring cry harder.
Susan glanced at Seb, signaling him to shut up.
Then, Susan picked up Spring and comforted her, "Spring, Miss Thorne is sick right now and can't teach you. Your daddy found another teacher for you and Hayden. When Miss Thorne gets better, she'll come back to teach you both, okay?"
Hearing this, Spring finally stopped crying, but she made a request that put Susan in a difficult position.
"Mommy, I want to go to the hospital to see Miss Thorne," Spring said, looking at Susan with longing eyes.
Seeing such eager eyes, Susan didn't know what to say and felt very conflicted.
She didn't want Spring to be upset, but the thought of another encounter with Cecilia filled her with dread.
While she was hesitating, Seb seemed to notice Susan's dilemma and sternly said to Spring, "Spring, stop making a fuss!"
"No, I want to go to the hospital to see Miss Thorne. I want to go!" Spring clung to Susan's clothes, putting all her hope in her.
Seeing Spring's expectant eyes, Susan felt very sad and didn't know how to refuse her.
"Spring, go back to your room with Mary!" Seeing Susan's difficulty, Seb immediately got angry.
Spring didn't say anything, but tears started to flow from her big eyes.
Seeing Spring cry, Susan's eyes also reddened.
Seb saw Susan's expression, frowned, and raised his voice. "Did you hear me, Spring?"
Spring rubbed her eyes, crying as she jumped off Susan's lap, and then Mary led her back to her room.
"Ugh, women are so troublesome, always crying! Mommy, I'm going to my room to read for a bit." Hayden shook his head and then turned to go to his room.
Watching Hayden's back, Susan couldn't help but feel both amused and exasperated. However, thinking about the disappointed look in Spring's eyes earlier, she still felt uneasy.
In the master bedroom on the second floor, Susan sat on the bed, full of worries.
When Seb walked into the bedroom and saw Susan, he approached and held her shoulders, comforting her, "Spring is just a child. She'll get over this Cecilia thing in a few days. Don't worry too much."
Hearing this, Susan felt a warmth in her heart but still couldn't forget Spring's crying face.
Susan reached out and grabbed his hand on her shoulder, saying, "Spring really likes Cecilia. Kids might not understand the complexities of adult decisions. Maybe I should take her to see Cecilia in the hospital tomorrow. It might help her move on."
Hearing this, Seb frowned.
Susan pulled Seb to sit beside her, resting her head on his shoulder, and said with a smile, "I think once Spring sees that Cecilia is genuinely ill, it might help her accept the change. I'll take Mary and the driver with us for support. It'll be fine."
"Last time, Cecilia was a bit emotional. I'm worried..." Seb said with concern.
Susan smiled and said, "Don't worry. I'll have Mary and the driver accompany us. Nothing will happen."
"I'll go with you," Seb said.
"No need, it would be awkward for you to see Cecilia," Susan said considerately.
After thinking for a moment, Seb said, "Make sure the driver and Mary stay outside the ward, just in case."
"Okay, I'll do as you say," Susan agreed with a smile.
Seb hugged Susan's shoulders and said, "You, Hayden, and Spring can't have any accidents."
Hearing his words and feeling the strength of his hand on her shoulder, Susan felt the importance of herself, Hayden, and Spring in his heart.
"Hayden, Spring, and I will be fine," Susan said, holding Seb's hand tightly. They leaned against each other closely.
At this moment, Susan felt an extraordinary sense of satisfaction and happiness. She wished that time could stand still, making this moment eternal.
Susan didn't dare to hope to be with him forever. Cecilia's words in the hospital still made her uneasy because Carol's last words were an insurmountable barrier between her and Seb.
She didn't know how long she could stay with him. Although they loved each other, she could only cherish every moment they had together.
The next morning, Susan took Spring to the hospital to see Cecilia.
Susan held Spring's hand, carrying a bouquet of fresh flowers, while Spring held a small fruit basket. Behind them followed Mary and the driver.
Susan followed Seb's instructions and had Mary and the driver wait outside the ward. She held Spring's hand and pushed open the slightly ajar door.
However, the ward wasn't empty. Besides Cecilia, there was a young man in a gray suit. They were arguing and didn't notice Susan and Spring standing at the door.
"Cecilia, you can't leave the hospital yet. The doctor said you should stay a few more days," the man in the gray suit said with a frown.
The man looked scholarly, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, and was quite thin but energetic, clearly a student.
"Stay in the hospital? I need to go out and make money. My mom has called me over ten times since last night, urging me for money. My brother is already thirty-three. If he doesn't get married soon, he'll be single forever! We finally found a girl willing to marry him, but she demands a house and $20,000. If we don't comply, she'll leave him," Cecilia explained with a mix of frustration and desperation.
Hearing this, the man frowned at Cecilia for a while before saying, "Cecilia, you're just a poor student. Even with a scholarship covering your tuition and living expenses, you can't make tens of thousands of dollars in such a short time by being a tutor for rich people."
"That's not necessarily true. Rich people's minds are not something you can understand. I have my ways," Cecilia said disdainfully.
At this point, Susan understood.
Cecilia approached Seb for money. Her family was poor, and her mother pressured her to find a way to help her brother get married.
But who was this scholarly man? From his eyes, it was clear he cared about Cecilia, but she didn't seem to care about him.
Seeing Cecilia's expression, the man's eyes showed a hint of pain, and he sneered, "Your way is to throw yourself at them?"
