Chapter 788 Distant
Not long after, Seb sighed, "I had a dream about Mom. She and Rylee were mad at me for not following Mom's last wishes."
Hearing this, Susan, who was leaning against the wall, felt her legs give out, and she almost slid to the floor.
She covered her mouth with her hand, trying to hold back her tears.
Carol was a topic she and Seb couldn't touch. Susan never imagined that just as they were learning to get along, something this crushing would happen.
Susan was freaking out. She saw the pain in Seb's eyes. Was she going to lose him?
She couldn't even think about what might happen next. All she knew was that her heart was breaking. She didn't want to leave Seb, Hayden and Spring.
Kathy chimed in, "Mr. Anderson, dreams are just fake. Don't let them get to you. I can see you love Ms. Wilson, and she loves you. You two are so happy together. You haven't been this happy in years. Plus, you have Hayden and Spring. You can't just break up this family, can you?"
"I haven't been able to face her these past few days. I'm scared she'll be sad. But every time I close my eyes, I see Mom and Rylee in my mind. I can't keep going like this!" Seb clenched his fists.
Kathy looked at Seb and asked carefully, "Mr. Anderson, are you thinking about leaving Ms. Wilson for good?"
"I can't stand the thought of leaving her, I really can't!" Seb's eyes were full of fear.
"Your divorce from Ms. Wilson means you've honored Mrs. Anderson's last wishes. Isn't that enough?" Kathy frowned, trying to comfort him.
"I know I've always hurt her. I don't know what to do!" Seb covered his face with his hands, looking miserable.
Sensing Seb's pain, Kathy quickly said, "Mr. Anderson, think it over. It's just a dream. You might forget it in a few days."
Seb rubbed his face and said, "Kathy, go ahead and finish making breakfast. Susan probably won't wake up for a while. I'll head out after breakfast."
"Okay, okay." Kathy quickly replied.
Hearing that they were done talking, Susan quietly turned and left.
She didn't want Seb to know she had overheard them. He didn't want to make her sad, and she got that.
Susan ran back to the bedroom and shut the door.
She leaned against the door, tears streaming down her face.
How could this be happening?
She and Seb had finally found a way to get along, but now it seemed like even that chance was slipping away.
Susan lay in bed, unable to sleep, tears flowing.
She didn't know how long it had been, but suddenly she heard footsteps outside.
Susan knew it was him, so she quickly turned her back and pulled the blanket over her head. She didn't want him to see her crying.
The next moment, the door was gently pushed open.
Then came the sound of steady footsteps.
Hearing his footsteps, Susan wanted to turn around and throw herself into his arms, holding him tight.
But she couldn't.
She knew he was already so sad, so she didn't want to make it worse.
Susan closed her eyes, staying perfectly still, not knowing what Seb was up to.
Just as she was wondering, she felt a kiss on her cheek and his hand on her shoulder.
Feeling the kiss, Susan's heart raced, and she held her breath!
Then there was a long silence. Susan didn't dare open her eyes, afraid he'd realize she wasn't asleep.
In fact, she wanted to open her eyes and hold him.
But she didn't dare. She didn't know what to say.
Those few seconds felt like forever to Susan.
Luckily, his hand soon pulled away, and she heard his footsteps moving away until the door gently closed. Only then did Susan breathe a sigh of relief.
When she opened her eyes, he was already gone, but his scent lingered everywhere.
Susan rested her head on his pillow, inhaling his scent, her heart aching.
For the next week, Seb was almost always out meeting friends or checking on projects. When he was home, he was in the study reading documents or on the computer, clearly avoiding Susan. He only occasionally played with Hayden and Spring.
Susan understood why and pretended not to notice, not bringing it up.
She knew he was in a tough spot, torn between his conscience and not wanting to let her down.
But this week was really hard for Susan. She wasn't someone who could keep things bottled up.
One morning, Seb went out early again, while Susan stayed in bed.
It seemed they had developed a routine. He would get up early, have breakfast, and leave, while Susan wouldn't get up until after nine.
This way, he didn't have to rush and could have breakfast made by Kathy before leaving.
Susan was lying in bed, staring blankly at the ceiling, when her phone suddenly rang!
In Northstar City, few people called her. She had only a few friends, and her relatives, Catherine and Dorothy, didn't contact her often, only occasionally calling to check in. As for clients, they knew she was on vacation in Northstar City, so the business at the accounting firm in Maple Valley was handled by Isabella.
Looking at the phone, it was indeed Isabella, who often called to joke around.
Susan had been feeling stifled these past few days and needed to talk, though she didn't plan to discuss her issues with Seb.
"Why did it take you so long to answer? Are you still in bed?" As soon as the call connected, Isabella's voice came through.
"You guessed right. I was just about to get up." Susan smiled faintly.
Hearing this, Isabella burst into laughter.
"Is it that funny?" Susan couldn't help but frown.
After stopping her laughter, Isabella said, "I know you and Seb are on vacation, but take it easy. Don't go overboard with the sex, or you'll exhaust him!"
