Chapter 546 Overwhelmed
Upon hearing this, Todd nodded repeatedly and said, "Yes, you're right. No matter the reason, I shouldn't have cheated before divorcing your mom. But what's done is done, and I don't want to avoid responsibility. It's all my fault. Don't blame Susan and Catherine; it's all on me..."
Before Todd could finish, Seb interrupted him harshly, "You are indeed responsible, but she can't shirk her responsibility either. Didn't she know you had a family? Didn't she know you were my biological dad? I just don't get it. If you had to cheat, why did it have to be with my mother-in-law?" Then, pointing at Catherine in Todd's arms, he continued, "And you, why did you have to choose your son-in-law's dad? This is a joke, a huge joke!"
Seeing Seb unable to accept the truth, Susan struggled to stand up, holding her waist, and tried to reach for Seb's hand. "Seb."
But before she could touch Seb's hand, he pushed her away in disgust!
At that moment, Susan felt deeply hurt.
Catherine, kneeling on the bed with the blanket tucked under her arms, started kowtowing to Seb while pleading, "Seb, it's all my fault. This has nothing to do with Susan. Please don't blame her!"
"Mom, what are you doing? Get up!" Susan cried, tears streaming down her face as she saw Catherine kowtowing to Seb.
Although Catherine was in the wrong, Susan didn't want her to degrade herself like this.
Todd, feeling equally distressed, quickly stepped forward to hold her. "Catherine, calm down!"
"Todd, it's my fault for not controlling my feelings. It's all my fault. If they want to blame someone, let them blame me. I don't want to live anymore." With that, Catherine tried to climb out the window with the blanket.
"Mom, please don't do this! What are you doing?" Susan cried, holding onto Catherine in desperation.
Seeing this, Todd held her tightly, but Catherine was too agitated to listen and kept crying and wailing.
Amidst the chaos, a muffled groan was heard.
Susan turned to see Seb's hand pressed against the wall.
The wall separated the room from another guest room and was made of wood. Seb's punch not only created a large hole in the wall but also injured his hand.
Susan noticed his fingers were bleeding and mangled, and she covered her mouth in shock.
The next moment, Susan rushed to Seb, reaching out to grab his arm. "Seb, what are you doing? Let me take a look..."
But Seb pushed her away and said coldly, "None of your business!"
With that, Seb cast a disgusted glance at the two people on the bed and then stormed out, slamming the door behind him!
"Seb, Seb!" Susan called out his name several times, but he was already gone.
Seeing that Seb didn't even acknowledge her, she knew he was truly angry and dejectedly left the guest room.
Susan leaned against the hallway wall, biting her lower lip to hold back her tears, but a few still escaped her eyes.
Inside, Todd and Catherine shakily put on their clothes, still looking exhausted and disheveled.
"Catherine, this is my fault," Todd said, his voice hoarse. "Don't cry. I'll fix this. I promise."
Catherine, with tear-filled eyes, looked at Todd and sobbed. "Todd, I know how you feel about me. You protected me back there. That's all I ever wanted. But I can't face anyone anymore. I've ruined everything. I just want to disappear."
With that, Catherine ran out.
"Catherine, don't do anything foolish!" Todd, hearing Catherine talk about dying, anxiously hobbled after her with his cane, but he couldn't keep up due to his leg injury.
Seeing Catherine run out of the room, Susan chased after her, shouting, "Mom, where are you going?"
Todd, following behind, called out anxiously, "Susan, keep an eye on Catherine. She's going to do something foolish!"
Hearing this, Susan turned to look at Todd, seeing his furrowed brows and his struggle to walk quickly with the cane.
"Got it," Susan nodded and hurriedly chased after Catherine.
Catherine ran out of the hotel and headed towards the river in Maple Valley.
Susan, panting, chased after her, but Catherine was too fast for her to catch up.
But she had to keep chasing. Catherine couldn't die. Susan could only struggle to run after her.
Twenty minutes later, Catherine finally reached the riverbank and was about to climb over the guardrail.
Susan gritted her teeth and rushed over, grabbing Catherine's arm at the critical moment. "Mom, what are you doing?"
Catherine looked at Susan, her face full of guilt. "Susan, I can't live with this shame. I've let you down and embarrassed you in the Anderson family."
"Mom, what nonsense are you talking about? Is this worth your life? Don't be foolish, please?" Susan's face twisted with anxiety as she held onto Catherine's arm tightly, knowing that if she let go, Catherine would fall into the rushing river, and it would be a matter of life and death.
Catherine continued to cry, "Susan, please, let go. Let me end this. My life has been a waste. I spent the first half with that awful man, James, never having a good day. In the second half, I finally met Todd, but he's a married man. Now everyone knows I'm nothing but a homewrecker. I've lived an upright life, but now my reputation is ruined. What's the point of living? Just let me go."
"Mom, who has it easy in life? Isn't life full of disappointments? If you die, what will happen to me and Dorothy? Do you know how hard it is for children without a mother?" Susan cried and pleaded.
But Catherine was unmoved, determined to die.
By now, people had gathered around, pointing and whispering about them.
"At her age, being a mistress and now trying to jump into the river, it's so disgraceful!"
"Yeah, aren't mistresses supposed to be young and pretty? This woman looks like she's fifty."
The people around them began to whisper as they overheard Catherine and Susan's conversation.
