Chapter 263 I Won't Regret

"Thanks for your support, George," Susan whispered, resting her head on his shoulder.

George smiled. "It's what I should do."

"I'm so happy right now, having Hayden, Spring, and you with me!" Susan beamed.

George intertwined his fingers with hers, looking a bit worried. "Actually, I'm a bit concerned."

"About what?" Susan looked up at him.

"I'm afraid that once you acknowledge Hayden, you won't marry me," George admitted, embarrassed.

Susan laughed. "Acknowledging Hayden and marrying you are two different things, right?"

George hesitated, looking at her.

Susan seemed to understand and said, "George, I've promised to marry you, and I won't regret it. Besides, where else could I find a husband as wonderful as you?" She then shyly nestled into his embrace.

George treated Spring as his own, and Susan trusted he would do the same for Hayden. Knowing Hayden's need to be with Seb at times, Susan felt Hayden's presence wouldn't drastically change her life with George.

Even though Susan and George had been together for a long time and were about to get married, they rarely had such intimate moments alone. Both were usually very busy—George with his legal cases, and Susan with her job, online store, and taking care of Spring, leaving her exhausted.

Feeling Susan unusually proactive today, George, in a moment of excitement, began to kiss her cheek.

Susan's body stiffened at his kisses, but she didn't refuse. Instead, she pretended to respond passionately.

Susan harbored a deep sense of guilt towards George. As a divorced mother with two kids, she recognized the contrast with George, who, despite his own relationship history, remained single. His immediate acceptance of her, Spring, and Hayden left her feeling indebted.

Yet she grappled with the idea of resorting to using her body as a form of repayment, believing she lacked any other means to reciprocate. These conflicting emotions left her feeling despondent and self-mocking.

Feeling Susan's passion, George kissed her deeply. Susan wrapped her arms around his neck, responding passionately, but she knew her heart and body didn't feel the excitement they should.

The living room lights were dimmed, adding a romantic touch.

Just when their passion was at its peak, George suddenly stopped!

Susan, with her eyes closed, didn't feel George's passion for a while and gently opened her eyes, seeing his face filled with doubt.

"What's wrong?" she asked, puzzled.

Hadn't George always wanted to be with her? She'd turned him down twice before, and he didn't push. Now that she was finally offering herself, why was he hesitating?

George sighed, "Susan, I don't want you to just go through the motions with me."

Susan felt guilty but argued, "What do you mean? How am I just going through the motions?"

She was pretending to be into it, not to lie, but to avoid hurting George's feelings.

George gave a bitter smile. "Your expression looks into it, and you're acting passionate, but your body is stiff. Do you think you can fool me?"

Seeing the hurt in his eyes, Susan felt awful. She was trying to accept him; she wasn't doing it on purpose.

To save his dignity, she found an excuse. "I've been so tired lately, and today was tense. I just got the kids to sleep. How could I have the energy for this?"

George's expression softened a bit at her reasonable excuse.

Seeing him relax, Susan acted coy. "It's my fault. You shouldn't have picked a woman with a kid like me, and now there's another kid!"

George pulled her into his arms, stroking her back. "No, my bad. I shouldn't have lost my temper."

Susan pretended to be aggrieved in his arms. How had it come to this point where she felt compelled to put on a facade in front of him? The exhaustion of it all weighed heavily on her.

The next morning, Susan and Serenity were having breakfast with Hayden and Spring.

"Hayden, let me peel an egg for you," Susan said with a smile.

Hayden glanced at Spring. "Mommy, peel one for Spring first."

Susan was stunned for a moment, then smiled. "Hayden, you're so sweet, letting your sister go first."

"Well, since you gave me a sister, I have a lifelong job now. I have to protect her and let her have her way. Only when she gets married can I relax a bit!" Hayden shook his head and took a sip of his oatmeal.

Susan laughed, and Serenity choked, coughing for a long time before recovering.

The doorbell suddenly rang, and Susan smiled, saying, "It must be Isabella bringing my wedding dress back," as she went to open the door.

Hearing Susan's words, Hayden was stunned. He stopped having his breakfast and frowned.

When the door opened, Isabella stood outside with a large suitcase.

"Your wedding dress is so heavy!" she uttered, bringing the suitcase in.

"Thank you, it saves me another trip," Susan said with a smile.

"I was on my way, so I brought my dress too. But George is really generous. My bridesmaid dress cost thousands of dollars, and it's not rented; he bought it for me!" Isabella said happily.
