Chapter 267 Shock

Seb declared, "I won't marry again," locking eyes with Susan.

Her heart fluttered, but she dismissed it with a sneer, "Your marital status is your concern, not mine. No need for updates."

Seb's frown deepened. "It affects Hayden and Spring," he emphasized.

Susan mirrored his expression, her own brows furrowed.

After a moment of hesitation, Seb added, "I already have Hayden and Spring. I don't see the need to remarry. It's what's best for the kids."

Susan understood that Seb's words held weight. They did stir something within her. 'Life is full of surprises,' she mused, 'who knows what the future holds?'

She stood up and said, "If you're okay with the current plan for the kids, let's stick with it. We'll deal with the future when it comes."

Seb knew she wanted to end the conversation. He stood up slowly and nodded. "I agree."

"I'll get Hayden," Susan said, turning to leave.

Seb called out, "You're getting married in three days. I'll bring Hayden after your wedding, so it doesn't mess up your big day!"

Susan paused but didn't turn back. Catching the sarcasm in his tone, she retorted with a hint of clarity, "Thanks for your consideration!"

With purposeful steps, she carried on, leaving the tense exchange behind.

A few minutes later, Seb walked away holding Hayden's little hand.

Seeing Hayden look back every few steps, Susan felt a pang in her heart but was helpless.

Soon after, Serenity came over pushing the stroller.

"Spring is hungry, time to feed her," Serenity said with a smile.

Susan felt stifled and told Serenity, "I need a walk. You take Spring back to feed her."

"Okay," Serenity said, pushing Spring home.

Susan strolled through the park, pondering Seb's valid point. Despite her commitment to George and closure with Seb, the notion of refraining from more children lingered, considering it might not match George's aspirations.

After a while, Susan decided to go home. She walked to a grove and saw George standing there.

Seeing George, Susan was delighted. 'George must have come looking for me after hearing from Serenity,' she thought.

George was always so considerate and treated Spring as his own daughter. Susan had no doubt that even if he had kids of his own, he'd never treat Spring or Hayden poorly.

She waved to call George over, but before she could say a word, her attention was drawn to two men making their way towards him.

Susan frowned as she recognized the two approaching men—a bulky one and a slender one.

Her hand froze in mid-air as memories of the past resurfaced. Patrick, the large man, and Christopher, his wiry partner, were the same men who had assaulted her at Lindell Harbor two years ago.

Susan, shocked and seething, contemplated calling the cops. However, the presence of George with Patrick and Christopher left her puzzled. Hiding among the trees, she shivered, realizing that George had some sort of connection with these men.

Peering from the trees, Susan observed George engaging with Patrick and Christopher. A brief exchange ensued, with George passing an envelope to Patrick who responded before they both departed.

Susan was taken aback! The sight of that envelope left her convinced it contained cash. But the burning question remained: Why was George handing them money?

Connecting the dots, she realized Patrick and Christopher weren't sent by Sophia and Amelia. They were following George's orders.

She could hardly believe it. 'No! George isn't like that,' she told herself.

She peeked out and saw George looking around before walking away nonchalantly.

It was clear George and the two men had some secret. Otherwise, they wouldn't be so secretive.

Susan crouched there, feeling cold. She didn't know who to trust anymore; even George was playing tricks on her.

She thought for a long time, feeling something was still off.

That incident happened two years ago. George's dealings with Patrick and Christopher should have been over. Why were they still in contact?

Were Patrick and Christopher blackmailing George, or did George have ongoing dealings with them?

Susan wandered the park for a long time before going back.

As soon as she entered, George greeted her with a smile, "Where did you go? Why did it take so long?"

Feeling heavy-hearted, Susan replied, "I took a walk in the park."

George looked stunned, his expression a bit unnatural. "It's cold today. Why the park?"

"Where's Spring?" Susan glanced towards the bedroom.

George's expression already told Susan his relationship with Patrick and Christopher wasn't normal.

"Serenity took her to the supermarket," George replied.

"Oh, okay." Susan nodded.

George stepped forward, holding Susan's shoulders. "What's wrong? You look pale."

"I'm not feeling well. I need to rest," Susan said, pushing George's hand away and turning to the bedroom.

Lying on the pillow, Susan felt utterly exhausted, both physically and mentally.

In three days, she was supposed to marry George, but now she had discovered such a sordid matter, making her waver about the wedding.

George came in with a cup of hot milk and said, "Drink some hot milk and get a good sleep. You've been too tired lately."

"I don't want to drink," Susan turned her face away, speaking coldly.

"Come on, be good, drink it quickly," George sat by the bed, handing the milk to Susan.

"I said I don't want to drink!" Susan pushed George's hand, causing him to shake, and the cup fell to the floor.
