Chapter 575 I Am Not Innocent

Susan didn't have time to think much. Seeing Andrew stand up, she quickly raised the menu in her hand to cover her face.

Then, Andrew hurriedly left.

Seeing Andrew leave, the man quickly settled the bill.

While paying, he chatted with the waiter for a bit.

"Hey gorgeous, come over to my place sometime," the man said with a sly look, clearly not a good person.

The waiter glanced at him and sneered. "Going to your place is either for lodging or for an affair. Why should I go there?"

"You never know; if you need to book a room someday, I'll give you a 20% discount." the man said, reaching out to take the change from the waiter and taking the opportunity to touch her hand.

"You're asking for it!" The waiter slapped his hand hard.

The man just laughed and walked away.

After he left, the waiter cursed, "Always up to no good. I can't believe Prosperity Group put him in charge of that place."

Soon, Susan's coffee was ready, and the waiter brought it over.

Taking advantage of the moment the waiter brought her coffee, Susan smiled and asked, "Was that guy the manager of the budget hotel across the street?"

"Yeah, if you need a place to stay, don't go there. He's too sleazy," the waiter kindly warned before leaving.

Susan frowned, recalling the conversation between the manager and Andrew, feeling more and more uneasy.

Catherine and Todd had an affair, but they were kind people and wouldn't shamelessly book a hotel room.

And how did Andrew know in advance that Catherine and Todd would come to this hotel? Thinking back to the day Carol brought them over, it was clear she was confident. The more Susan thought about it, the more suspicious she became.

Later, the client Susan was meeting arrived, leaving her no time to think about anything else. Distractedly, she finished the business meeting and said goodbye to the client.

Walking down the street, Susan couldn't help but call Catherine.

Since Catherine left, she rarely called her, not wanting to disturb her peaceful life with Todd. She also knew Catherine probably didn't want to think about Maple Valley anymore, so they only kept in touch occasionally to check in.

"Mom?" Susan said when the call connected.

"Susan, why are you calling at this time? Aren't you at work?" Catherine's voice sounded even softer than before.

Susan hesitated, knowing it was awkward to ask, but curiosity got the better of her. "Mom, I want to ask you something. Please don't feel embarrassed and tell me the truth."

"What is it? It sounds serious," Catherine asked, puzzled.

"It's about the day you and Todd went to the hotel," Susan began.

Catherine frowned. "Why bring that up out of the blue?"

Susan knew Catherine felt awkward, but she had to press on. "Mom, this is important. Please answer honestly."

"Alright," Catherine agreed reluctantly.

"That day, did you and Todd plan to meet at that budget hotel in advance? Who else knew about it?" Susan asked.

Catherine thought for a moment and replied, "I remember Todd texted me that day, saying it was inconvenient to call and asked me to meet him at the budget hotel. I hesitated but went because he insisted. Of course, I didn't tell anyone, and Todd wouldn't have either."

"So you only communicated by text and didn't talk directly?" Susan asked.

"Yes," Catherine confirmed.

Susan's mind raced.

Only text messages, no phone calls. Was it possible someone had intercepted their messages?

She thought back to Carol and Andrew bursting into the hotel room. It had all been too orchestrated, too perfectly timed to have been a spur-of-the-moment decision. They couldn't have followed either Catherine or Todd for very long.

"Why are you asking me this, Susan?" Catherine asked.

"Mom, I suspect someone set you up," Susan said seriously.

"Hold on, I'll ask Todd," Catherine said, hanging up.

A moment later, Catherine called back, sounding urgent.

"Susan, I asked Todd. He said he never sent me a text that day. He received a text from me, but I didn't send him one. It was supposed to be from him. Todd wouldn't lie to me. What's going on?"

Just as Susan suspected, someone had manipulated things behind the scenes. Although Catherine and Todd had an affair, the incident where they were caught in bed was a setup, and the mastermind was Andrew.

"Mom, someone must have used high-tech means to control your and Todd's phones, sending texts to set you up," Susan explained.

"Who would do that?" Catherine asked, frowning.

"If I'm not mistaken, it was Andrew, Carol's son-in-law," Susan replied.

"Andrew? But why?" Catherine asked, agitated by the embarrassing incident.

"If I'm right, Carol suspected something and had Andrew investigate. He found out about you and Todd and set this up to impress Carol," Susan speculated.

"Andrew is despicable," Catherine said.

"Mom, he's too vile. I need to warn him," Susan said, feeling that Andrew had disrupted the Anderson family.

Catherine sighed over the phone. "Susan, it's in the past. Let it go. Don't stir up more trouble."

"Mom, aren't you angry that he set you up and embarrassed you?" Susan asked, frowning.

"I wasn't innocent. Todd and I had feelings first and got caught in the trap. I'm living peacefully and happily with Todd now. I don't want to get involved in more drama. I advise you to live your life quietly too," Catherine said before hanging up.
