Chapter 384 The Dust Settles

After Cynthia finished talking, she turned her eyes to Seb, who was standing right by her hospital bed.

Seb was holding Cynthia's hand, and she managed a happy smile.

"Seb, I'm outta here. Take care." With that, Cynthia couldn't speak anymore. Tears rolled down her cheeks, and she closed her eyes.

"Cynthia," Seb whispered, but she couldn't hear him anymore.

Seb was crushed, still gripping her hand tight.

Susan knew losing someone so full of life was a gut punch, especially since Cynthia and Seb had a history. Even though Seb had held grudges, none of that mattered now.

Susan slipped out of the room, giving Seb some space to deal with his feelings.

A few minutes later, Seb came out looking wrecked. By then, Leon had already called the funeral folks.

Seb plopped down on a bench in the hallway. Seeing him so down, Susan's heart ached.

She sat next to him, took his hand, and said, "She's gone now. Don't be too sad."

Seb nodded, gripping Susan's hand and said, "I'm sorry."

Susan frowned. "What are you sorry for?"

"I haven't felt that way about Cynthia in ages. Now, I just..." Seb tried to explain.

Susan cut him off, "You just feel bad for her, and seeing someone so full of life go is tough, right?"

Seb gave a small smile and patted her hand. "With a great wife like you, I don't need anything else."

"I'm not your wife yet, just the mother of your kids," Susan teased.

Seb didn't answer but looked at the ward door and said, "I need to sort out Cynthia's funeral in these two days, so I won't be home. Let Leon take you back."

"I'll stay with you," Susan said, looking at him.

But Seb shook his head. "You need to take care of the kids. Cynthia's funeral isn't your business after all; you don't have to be involved."

Susan thought about it and realized she had no place in the funeral, so she nodded.

After giving Seb some advice, Susan left with Leon.

Two days later, Seb came back, looking beat.

He took a shower and crashed for the whole day.

When he woke up, the bedroom was empty, so he went downstairs in his loungewear.

The living room was empty, but he saw someone busy in the kitchen.

Seb walked over and hugged her from behind.

Feeling the familiar hug, Susan knew it was him without looking.

"Awake?" Susan asked while making soup.

"Yeah," Seb nodded, burying his head in her neck.

Feeling his warmth, Susan said, "Go wash your hands, time for breakfast."

"Where are the kids?" Seb asked, looking up.

"Kathy and Mary took them to the park," Susan replied.

"So, it's just us?" Seb's eyes lit up.

Putting down the soup ladle, Susan turned and warned him, "Today, you rest. I need to study stock trading. Don't even think about messing around, got it? Not even in your thoughts!"

Seeing her so serious, Seb smirked and said, "I think you're overthinking. I'm wiped from the past few days. Even if you wanted something, I couldn't deliver. Are you playing hard to get?"

Susan smacked his head, annoyed. "Who's playing hard to get? I'll beat you up!"

"I can't mess with you. I'm gonna wash my hands," Seb said, running out of the kitchen while holding his head.

After he left, Susan smiled, knowing Seb was just teasing her.

Seb seemed to enjoy messing with her lately, like he loved seeing her flustered and mad.

As Susan was smiling, a head suddenly peeked into the kitchen.

"What are you grinning about?" Seb popped back in.

Susan immediately stopped smiling.

Seb laughed and said, "Serve me a bowl of soup. I'll go wash up first."

"Got it!" Susan shouted.

This time, sure he had really left, Susan smiled again and served a bowl of soup, placing it on the dining table.

Resting her chin on her hand, Susan looked at the soup, waiting for him to return.

That noon, Isabella invited Susan out for a casual meal.

In a cozy restaurant, Susan and Isabella chatted while eating.

Isabella said happily, "The stock you told me to buy last time went up over ten percent. I invested $30,000 and already made $5,000!"

"Don't blow the money. Start saving for your wedding," Susan said with a smile.

Isabella pouted. "I don't even know if I'll get married."

"Whether you get married or not, it's always good to have some money saved up," Susan advised.

"Got it. Enough about me. What about you?" Isabella asked.

"I've always been saving money," Susan replied.

Isabella said anxiously, "I mean, when are you and Seb getting remarried?"

Susan said, "No rush."

"How can you not be in a rush? You've been back together for so long, Cynthia is gone, and there's no more grudge. Plus, you have two kids. Do you want to live together forever without getting married? Even if you're okay with it, you have no security, and the kids will be ridiculed!" Isabella said in one breath.

The idea of remarrying had crossed Susan's mind many times. Seb had also mentioned a few times that she was his wife, but Seb had never made any clear moves. Should she say, "Seb, let's get remarried right away"?

Thinking about it made Susan blush. It felt too forward and hurt her pride.

"Why not speak?" Isabella asked, seeing Susan's silence.

Finally, Susan said, "He hasn't proposed. Should I bring it up myself? I'd rather not."

"Even if you don't bring it up, you can hint at it. Men are often clueless; maybe he hasn't thought about it," Isabella advised.

"Got it." Susan said helplessly, tossing a fried egg into Isabella's bowl.
