Chapter 473 Why Did You Hit Me
"Ms. Taylor, you say your daughter’s part of our family now, huh? Fine. Look at what she did to Todd. He’s gonna be stuck in the hospital and need rehab for months. How about your daughter takes care of Todd every day until his leg’s all good?" Carol suddenly demanded.
Carol’s request seemed simple, but sticking around for months of rehab was a whole different ball game. Susan wouldn’t be able to work during that time.
Susan frowned a bit but figured taking care of Todd was something she could handle. He was an elder and had always been nice to her. Plus, she did feel kinda responsible for his injury.
Just as Susan was about to agree, Seb chimed in with a smile, "Mom, didn’t we hire a caregiver? Susan, the caregiver, and I can take good care of Dad together."
"Right," Todd nodded like a bobblehead.
Seb was obviously on Susan’s side. No way she could handle taking care of his dad all by herself.
But Carol wasn’t backing down. "Nope, a caregiver can’t be as attentive as family."
Seeing Carol’s stubbornness, Catherine asked, "Mrs. Carol Anderson, if Susan takes good care of Mr. Todd Anderson for these months, will you forgive her and let it go?"
Carol and Catherine locked eyes for a moment.
Then Carol nodded, "Sure!"
Todd’s leg would take four to five months to fully heal. That time would be enough to tame Susan’s attitude, so Carol agreed without a second thought.
Of course, if Susan found it too tough, it’d just show she was unfilial. Carol had her ways to deal with Susan either way.
Next, Catherine looked at Carol and Todd, saying, "Mr. Todd Anderson, Mrs. Carol Anderson, Susan’s got work and has to take care of Hayden and Spring. How about I take care of Mr. Todd Anderson for these months? I promise he’ll be well taken care of. What do you think?"
Everyone was floored by her words!
No one saw that coming from Catherine.
"Mom, how can this be?" Susan stepped forward, wanting to take care of Todd herself.
Catherine cut her off, "I’m your mother. Listen to me. You go back and take care of the kids. I’ll handle taking care of Mr. Todd Anderson!"
"No way, how can I let you take care of me? Besides, it’s not right. I’d rather have a caregiver. If needed, we can hire another one!" Todd shook his head like crazy.
At this point, Carol stared at Catherine and said, "Ms. Taylor, when I say take care, I mean without a caregiver. Can you handle taking care of Todd all by yourself? This isn’t just for a day or two. Think it through."
"Yes, I do. I’ll take care of him, and you don’t need to worry about meals. If you wanna visit Mr. Todd Anderson in the hospital, just come and see him," Catherine said confidently.
Carol squinted and then said, "Alright, it’s settled then!"
Before Todd and Seb could say anything, Catherine stood up and said, "I’ll go home and grab my stuff. Be back in half an hour!"
With that, Catherine turned and walked out.
"Mom." Susan wanted to chase after her, but Catherine waved her off, signaling her to stay put.
After Catherine left, Todd grumbled to Carol, "Carol, what are you doing? How can you let Ms. Taylor take care of me? Besides, it's not appropriate!"
Carol shot back, "You heard her. I didn't twist her arm. She volunteered to make up for her daughter's screw-up. What can I do?" She shrugged.
Todd sighed, clearly frustrated.
Seb stepped up and said, "Mom."
Carol waved him off. "No need to say more. It's settled. I'm gonna find the doctor to dismiss the caregiver!"
"Mom." Seb frowned, calling out to Carol, who was already at the door.
As she reached the door, Carol suddenly turned back and stared at Seb and Susan. "Seb, you're swamped with work, so no need to stay at the hospital. As for Susan, if you want to help your mom, come and help. After all, she is making up for your mistake!"
With that, Carol turned and left.
Carol did dismiss the caregiver, and half an hour later, Catherine came back with her clothes and toiletries.
Carol raised her chin at Catherine and said, "I'll leave Todd to you. If you can't handle it someday, just let me know. But I will never forgive your daughter, and you should never come to our Anderson family again!"
"I understand." Catherine nodded, keeping her cool.
Carol nodded. "Alright. We're outta here. Take care of Todd."
With that, Carol turned and left the ward, dragging Seb with her.
Catherine smiled at Todd and said, "Mr. Todd Anderson, what do you want for dinner? I see there's an induction cooker in the ward. I'm pretty good at making soup. How about some chicken soup? You need to get some protein after the surgery."
"Alright." Todd could only nod, feeling helpless.
While Catherine was washing the carrots, Susan followed her to the washroom.
At this point, Catherine put down the carrots, walked up to Susan, and touched her swollen face, asking with concern, "Susan, did it hurt?"
Hearing this, Susan couldn't hold back her emotions any longer and started crying.
Catherine felt bad too. She hugged Susan and also shed a few tears.
"Mom, why did you do this?" Susan asked, puzzled, staring at Catherine.
It wasn't that Catherine didn't love her, but she had no choice. It was clear that Carol was deliberately picking a fight, yet Catherine didn't avoid it and even volunteered to take care of Todd.
Catherine sighed and said, "How could I not care about you? And I know Carol is a tough nut to crack!"
"Then why..." Susan frowned.
"But she's Todd's wife and Seb's mom. No matter how unreasonable she is, if she throws a fit, Todd and Seb can't do anything. And this time, Carol has put such a big blame on you. If you don't resolve this conflict, you won't have a place in the Anderson family in the future!" Catherine said earnestly.
