Chapter 251 A Chance Encounter

The night was quiet and still.

Susan sensed George's passion, yet she couldn't reciprocate it fully. Her response lacked the ardor of someone in love. To disguise her true feelings, she embraced his neck, fueling George's excitement. Despite her efforts, Susan couldn't ignore her own stiffness and inner turmoil.

At the peak of the moment, George stopped. Susan opened her eyes, confused.

He frowned. "You're not ready to fully accept me."

Susan wanted to explain. But George had already pulled away.

Seeing George upset and about to leave, Susan grabbed his arm. "George, are you mad?"

"No." George turned his back to her. His voice was gentle, but his posture was tense.

"George, I might just be a little nervous, don't mind it," Susan stammered, unable to explain.

"I know you still can't forget him, right?" George asked for the first time.

Susan was stunned, her eyes blank, but she didn't speak.

George was right. During their passionate moment, all she could think about was her past with Seb.

Susan was angry with herself. Why was she still thinking about that jerk? She felt sorry for George; she couldn't fully focus on him.

George saw Susan's dejected look. His heart softened, and he pulled her close. After a while, he said, "I know it takes time to move on. It's not your fault. You're loyal and value emotions, and that's what I love about you."

Susan's eyes reddened. She looked up at him. "George, believe me, I'll try to be a good wife and forget the past."

"Of course, I believe you. We're getting married!" George smiled.

"Mm." Susan smiled back.

George took out his phone and patted her cheek. "I need to contact the wedding planner!"

"Tomorrow is New Year's Day, and you're calling them now?" Susan quirked a brow, teasing him for his sudden urgency.

"If we're having the wedding in fifteen days, they can't take a break. I need to book in advance." George smiled.

"Then I'll leave it to you." Susan smiled.

George pinched her nose. "Just wait to be the bride. I'm looking forward to a passionate bride on our wedding night."

Susan understood his meaning and shyly nodded.

"Good night, have a sweet dream." George kissed her forehead, then left the bedroom, gently closing the door.

After the room went quiet again, Susan leaned against the headboard, hugging her knees. It felt surreal; she had casually decided to marry George.

Susan spent a warm and happy New Year's Day with Spring and George. The next day, they took Spring to Saskia's house in the suburbs.

Saskia adored Spring and was thrilled about Susan and George's wedding. But sometimes, when she looked at Susan, she seemed a bit worried.

Susan knew Saskia was wise and probably saw through her, so she pretended not to notice.

Four days after New Year's, Susan and George took Spring back to Catherine's house.

Susan had called Catherine in advance and learned that Dorothy and Henry had visited on the second day of the New Year, so she chose this day.

The visit went smoothly, and Susan felt relieved. She realized she'd have to time her visits to avoid running into Dorothy.

As the wedding day approached, George arranged for Susan to try on her wedding dress.

Serenity had returned and stayed home to look after Spring, while George drove Susan to the bridal shop.

Maple Valley, usually bustling, was quieter during the New Year as many people went home. But now, people were returning, and traffic was picking up.

They hit another red light, with cars lined up in front and behind.

"It's so congested today!" George said, looking around.

"We still have half an hour before our appointment; we should make it," Susan said with a smile.

George reached out and held Susan's hand. "Even if we're late, they have to wait for us. We're VIPs!"

"Is the wedding dress very expensive?" Susan asked, frowning.

"It's a designer piece. A few thousand dollars is already cheap," George said casually.

"There's no need to be so extravagant," Susan said uneasily.

"Getting married is a big deal; it has to be grand." Just as George finished speaking, Ethan appeared at the car window.

Ethan knocked on the window, signaling George to open the door.

Susan looked out and saw Ethan in a gray and white checkered coat. He looked familiar, but she couldn't place him.

George unlocked the door, and Ethan jumped into the back seat.

Susan was surprised, but George seemed to know him.

"George, thank goodness I ran into you!" Ethan said, glancing outside nervously.

"Ethan, what are you doing?" George asked, frowning.

Hearing George's words, Susan finally remembered who Ethan was.

But why did he look so disheveled? It seemed like he was hiding from someone. But who?

"Amelia is chasing me!" Ethan said, looking both funny and distressed, making it hard not to laugh.
