Chapter 721 Something Big Happened
Her actions at this moment were very rough, as if she wanted to claim Seb as her own.
Susan's enthusiasm quickly elicited a response from Seb. As soon as he responded, Susan immediately ended the kiss she had initiated.
With a lingering sense of desire, Seb looked at Susan and asked in confusion, "Is that it?"
"What more do you want? You need to abstain now to prepare for your fight with Andrew!" Susan patted Seb on the shoulder.
"I can abstain from those other women, but not from you, right?" Seb grinned mischievously and tried to hug Susan.
Susan, however, moved back, deliberately keeping her distance. "You need to abstain from all females right now!"
"Shall I walk you upstairs?" Seb asked.
"Don't tempt fate," Susan said, wagging a finger at him. "You might not want to leave."
Hearing this, Seb's lips curled into a devilish smile.
Just before getting out of the car, Susan turned back and said, "By the way, I don't mind you getting me some bodyguards, but can you have them keep a bit of distance? I don't want people to think I'm the girlfriend of a mob boss."
"Sure," Seb said, spreading his hands.
Then, Susan looked at Seb and said, "I'll be waiting for your victory."
With that, she turned and got out of the car.
To put Seb at ease, Susan didn't look back and ran straight upstairs.
After turning on the lights, Susan ran to the balcony and looked down through the window. She watched as Seb's car pulled away, followed by one of the cars with bodyguards. The other remained, a silent sentinel in the night.
Susan knew that the bodyguards in that car were left by Seb specifically to protect her. She didn't refuse because, first, Andrew was ruthless and capable of anything; second, this way Seb could be assured of her safety and focus on his fight with Andrew.
Two days later, one afternoon, Susan was sitting in her office, lost in thought.
In the past two days, Seb hadn't contacted her, and she hadn't contacted him, fearing she might disturb him.
Seb must be assured of her safety because the bodyguards he sent would definitely report to Leon that she was safe and sound.
These past two days, there hadn't been any movement at all. Susan was puzzled. Andrew had made his move yet, and the suspense was almost unbearable. Susan found herself constantly checking the news, wondering where and how the blow would fall.
At that moment, the office door suddenly burst open, and Isabella rushed in, holding a newspaper!
"Susan, something big has happened!" Isabella shouted urgently.
Seeing Isabella in such a hurry, Susan stood up and asked, "What happened?"
"It's Prosperity Group," Isabella said, flustered and almost incoherent.
"What happened to Prosperity Group?" As expected, something had happened to Prosperity Group, and Susan's nerves tensed up.
"One of Prosperity Group's construction sites had a landslide, and a dozen workers are missing, likely all dead!" Isabella handed the newspaper to Susan.
"Oh my God…" Susan breathed, her hand flying to her mouth as she took the paper.
The headline screamed at her in bold letters: "Tragedy at Prosperity Construction Site: Landslide Claims a Dozen Lives."
Isabella said anxiously, "I just called Leon. He's at the landslide site assisting with the rescue and didn't have time to talk to me, but he sounded very serious and said this is a huge accident!"
It was indeed a huge accident, one that was fatal for Prosperity Group, especially in their real estate development projects. It could potentially lead to the collapse of all the properties they were developing.
So Evergreen Ventures Group and Andrew had used this massive accident as their entry point. This was definitely their doing.
Susan was shocked by Andrew's ruthlessness. A dozen lives, a dozen broken families—this was utterly heartless, and they actually did it!
The next moment, Susan suddenly thought of something and quickly turned on her computer.
Seeing Susan searching the web, Isabella asked, "Susan, what are you doing?"
Susan didn't have time to respond to Isabella. Soon, she locked onto a page and slumped into her swivel chair in despair.
"What happened?" Isabella walked around the desk and looked at the computer screen.
"Just as expected, Prosperity Group's stock has hit the limit down," Susan said, rubbing her head in frustration.
"Is it that serious?" Isabella frowned at the green numbers on the screen.
Susan sneered, "Prosperity Group is a publicly traded company; a single incident can affect everything!"
Andrew and Evergreen Ventures had planned this perfectly. Target Prosperity's real estate ventures, create a disaster that would shake public confidence, and then swoop in and take over the market while their stock was in freefall. It was ruthless, efficient, and utterly heartless.
Susan sat in her chair, worried about how Seb would handle this.
"I was hoping Leon would take me on a vacation abroad for New Year's. Now it looks like we won't even be able to spend New Year's together!" Isabella said, distressed, as she sat in her chair.
"They'll definitely find a way to solve this," Susan comforted Isabella.
Susan still had confidence in Seb and Leon, but she was secretly worried.
At that moment, the office door was suddenly knocked from the outside.
"Come in!" Susan called out.
The next moment, Dorothy walked in with a package and placed it on Susan's desk. "Susan, you have a package."
"Okay," Susan nodded.
"I'll get back to work then," Dorothy said before leaving.
After Dorothy left, Susan remained slumped in her chair, not in the mood to look at the package.
"What did you buy this time?" Isabella asked, looking at the package on the desk.
"I didn't buy anything," Susan replied, her mind completely elsewhere.
Hearing this, Isabella got up and opened the package.
Then, Isabella suddenly pulled out a Snoopy doll from the package and frowned, asking, "This doll doesn't look new. Who would send you an old doll?"
At this moment, Susan's eyes fell on the doll in Isabella's hand.
It was a Snoopy doll, very cute, but the quality and craftsmanship were quite ordinary. It was clearly not a branded item, and its design was somewhat outdated.
