Chapter 518 Falling Into the Sea and Turning Into a Turtle
Leon's snarky comments got Isabella all riled up. She shot him a death glare while he just looked at her like she was trash. "Leon, cut the crap. We're both from here. If you think Averlake's so awesome, then go there and don't come back. Quit worshipping foreign stuff!"
Leon snapped back, not giving an inch, "How am I worshipping foreign stuff? Spell it out!"
Their shouting match woke up everyone around them, who now stared at them like they were crazy.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, Isabella quickly sat down and lowered her voice. "I just wanted to hit the restroom. Move it. You're the one making us look bad!"
Leon, still fuming, shot her a dirty look but didn't say anything. He got up and stormed off.
Isabella, seeing him leave, got up and headed to the restroom.
When she got back, Leon was nowhere to be found.
Just as she was wondering where he went, a young dude in his twenties, rocking black-rimmed glasses and dressed like a student, plopped down in Leon's seat.
Isabella, eyeing the guy in a T-shirt and jeans, frowned. "This isn't your seat, is it?"
The student turned to her with a grin. "The guy who was here swapped seats with me, so now I'm here."
Isabella blinked, then asked, "Where's your seat?"
"Back in economy," he said, looking a bit sheepish.
Isabella and Susan's crew were all chilling in business class, way pricier than economy. Now that Leon had traded his cushy seat for a cramped one, this student was obviously stoked.
But Isabella was pissed. To dodge her, Leon had actually gone to sit in the tight economy class seat.
"Those two are at it again," Susan had already noticed the drama on Isabella's side.
Seb didn't even bother to look up. "Let them bicker."
"But..." Susan started to say something.
Seb gently pushed her head against his chest. "Sleep!"
Susan closed her eyes but couldn't help worrying about Isabella. Were she and Leon just destined to clash? Why did they always end up fighting?
After a grueling twenty-hour flight, they finally touched down in Avaloria early in the morning.
Seb and Susan took the kids to check out the statue.
Hayden looked up in awe. "Daddy, Mommy, that statue is huge!"
Seb and Susan shared a smile, and then Susan walked up to Hayden, smiling. "That's the Statue of Liberty."
"Mom, why's it called the Statue of Liberty?" Hayden asked, looking all confused.
"Because she's all about freedom," Susan said, kinda winging it.
Seb chuckled and ruffled Hayden's hair before giving him the real lowdown.
Susan glanced up at Seb, feeling that familiar awe. The guy knew everything, had been everywhere, and had insights for days. Next to him, she felt kinda small.
Catching her look, Seb stepped closer and took her hand. "Why you looking at me like I'm some kinda hero?"
Susan rolled her eyes with a grin. "Don't get a big head, okay? It's just appreciation. You're not a hero."
Then Seb called out, "Yo, Leon! Snap a pic for us!"
"On it," Leon said, hurrying over with the camera.
Seb wrapped an arm around Susan's shoulder, and they posed with the Statue of Liberty towering behind them.
After that, Leon went around taking pics of Mary with Spring and Kathy with Hayden.
Meanwhile, Seb and Susan found a quiet spot to soak in the view and chat.
Out of nowhere, Seb grabbed Susan's hand, looked at the Statue of Liberty, and said super seriously, "Susan, I swear right here, I'll walk through life with you and love you forever!"
Susan was floored, staring at him with wide eyes. She hadn't expected that. She always thought he sucked at expressing his feelings.
Seeing her stunned, Seb flicked her forehead. "Why you spacing out?"
Susan snapped back and pointed at him. "You said it. You gotta love me forever and stick with me."
"Of course," Seb nodded.
"What if you break your promise?" Susan asked, looking up at him.
Seb looked up at the sky, thinking. "Then let me get into a car accident and lose my memory, and then..."
Susan quickly slapped her hand over his mouth!
"No need to say something so heavy," Susan scolded.
Seeing her freak out, Seb took her hand and smiled. "Didn't you ask what if I broke my promise?"
"Then you should say you'll fall into the sea and turn into a turtle. Haha," Susan laughed, her mood lightening.
