Chapter 338 Betrayal

Susan had this fleeting thought about George, but she quickly brushed it off. No way she was dragging him into her mess again. If she needed a lawyer, she'd find someone else. George was off-limits.

Next morning, despite feeling like the weight of the world was on her shoulders, Susan still made it to the office.

The moment she walked in, she spotted Elliott. He was there, smirking like he was ready to watch her crash and burn.

Without thinking, Susan marched up to him and blurted out, "Your appendicitis healed up real quick, huh?"

Elliott was caught off guard. He fumbled for a second, then puffed up his chest and said, "With all the work piling up, I couldn't just chill at home forever."

Susan rolled her eyes at his audacity. "Your appendicitis had perfect timing."

Elliott looked a bit rattled. "What are you getting at?"

"You know exactly what I mean!" Susan snapped, then stormed off to her desk.

While Elliott lost it, he slammed his documents down with a loud thud. "How should I know? You betrayed the company and now you're pointing fingers? Unbelievable. Yeah, I got sick at the right time. If I hadn't, how would you have pocketed that hundred grand?"

Elliott was being aggressive, a complete contrast to his attitude a few days ago.

Susan's eyes narrowed, thinking,'Elliott and Fiona had to be in on this together. They framed me so perfectly, and I had no way to fight back.'

Elliott couldn't hold her gaze and eventually stormed out, muttering, "Getting accused by a crazy woman first thing in the morning, just my luck."

Susan clenched her fists, seething with rage but clueless about her next move.

Just then, a female colleague called out, "Susan, Linda wants to see you in her office!"

Susan hesitated but then got up and headed to Linda's office.

Sitting across from Linda, Susan noticed how calm she seemed.

"Susan, Paula filled me in on your situation. Honestly, I have my doubts. I don't think you'd do something like this," Linda said, hands clasped together.

A flicker of hope sparked in Susan's eyes. "Linda, I'm being framed, I swear."

But Linda cut her off. "Susan, I get how you're feeling, but my belief isn't enough. The police evidence is all against you. You need solid proof to clear your name."

Susan was speechless. If she had any evidence, she'd be at the police station, not sitting here.

Linda sighed and said, "I've let the general manager know about your situation. Given your situation, it's not really appropriate for you to keep working at Pioneer Accounting Firm right now."

"You're firing me?" Susan's voice shot up. Getting fired would make her look guilty as hell.

Linda raised a hand to calm her down. "Not firing, just suspending you. We'll figure out the next steps once the truth comes out."

Susan let out a small sigh of relief.

Linda continued, "I think you need some time to cool off and maybe find some evidence to clear your name. Staying here would just stress you out more. Don't you think?"

"Yeah," Susan nodded, feeling defeated.

A few minutes later, Susan walked out of Linda's office, looking like she'd just been hit by a truck.

Back at her desk, she started packing up her stuff, ready to leave.

Just then, Fiona strutted out of her office, her high heels clicking on the floor.

Fiona's smug look told Susan everything she needed to know. Fiona was here to rub salt in the wound.

Fiona sauntered over, arms crossed, and said, "Susan, Linda said you're suspended. I doubt you'll be back, so you might as well take all your stuff now and save yourself another trip."

She shot a disdainful glance at Susan's desk.

Susan was boiling inside, but she knew Fiona wanted her to blow up and make a scene. That would be the cherry on top for Fiona.

So, Susan kept her cool. "Fiona, I'm only suspended, not fired. I'll be back; count on it."

With that, she turned and walked out.

Fiona watched her go, stunned that Susan was still holding her ground.

In her frustration, Fiona turned too quickly and smacked her lower abdomen on the corner of Susan's desk, doubling over in pain.

"Fiona, you okay?" Elliott rushed over, and everyone else stared at Fiona.

Fiona, wincing, pointed at Susan's desk. "Move it to the balcony, now!"

"On it!" Elliott said, scrambling to comply.

Fiona hobbled back to her office, one hand clutching her stomach.

After she left, Elliott grimaced as he slowly pushed the desk to the balcony.

Susan walked out of the office building, feeling like the world was crashing down on her.

What should she do? How was she supposed to clear her name?

Just then, a black car caught her eye.

A black Bentley. Seb was here again!

But it wasn't even noon yet. Was Seb that eager? There was still over an hour until the workday ended.

But Linda was a senior exec, so leaving early wasn't a big deal. Guess they couldn't wait until evening.

Susan's mouth twisted into a bitter smile, and she turned to walk in another direction.
