Chapter 146 He Fell in Love with You
Susan and Isabella partied hard and slept in until late the next morning.
Susan, still in her pajamas, sat up, ran a hand through her messy hair, glanced at the still-sleeping Isabella, and grumbled, "Half the day's gone. I was planning to job hunt."
"What job? You're about to be the boss' wife at Prosperity Group. Your job will be keeping an eye on Seb," Isabella said, eyes still closed.
"You've been awake and pretending to sleep!" Susan threw a pillow at her.
Isabella blocked it, sat up with a grin, and teased, "I'm just being honest. If I were you, I'd be planning my rich housewife life—beauty treatments, shopping, working out. Too bad I don't have that luck!"
Susan rolled her eyes. "You never know, maybe you'll marry rich someday!"
"Thanks for the wish. I'll start praying at home every day," Isabella said, making a prayer gesture.
Susan smiled, got out of bed, and said, "I'm serious. I need to find a job."
"It's the weekend. Are you serious?" Isabella frowned.
Susan opened the wardrobe, looking for clothes. "I can't just sit around. I need money."
"You're nuts, sitting on a gold mine and still wanting to work. Go ahead, I'm going back to sleep. It's rare I don't have to visit my mom this weekend," Isabella said, lying back down.
Susan shook her head, got dressed, ate quickly, and left with her resume.
The economy was slack, and finding a job was tough, especially with big companies not hiring. Susan spent half the day with no luck.
After walking all day in high heels, her feet were killing her. In the busy downtown of Maple Valley, she sat on a bench, took off her heels, and rubbed her feet.
Big companies weren't hiring accountants. Should she try smaller ones?
Her previous jobs at Prosperity Group and George and Vivian Law Firm were at big companies with great benefits, high pay, and room for growth.
Small companies wouldn't offer the same perks, but she couldn't stay idle. She had to try. She couldn't just live off that bit of compensation.
As she was thinking, a pair of shiny gold patent leather heels appeared in front of her.
The shoes were fancy and expensive. Susan thought it was a passerby, but the owner almost stepped on her feet, clearly challenging her.
Susan frowned and looked up.
It was Vivian, with perfect makeup, large gold hoop earrings, a magenta coat, and a Chanel handbag, looking every bit the wealthy woman.
"Don't you recognize me?" Vivian's tone was sharp, her eyes full of disdain.
In the bustling street, Susan couldn't believe her bad luck running into Vivian. But since Vivian spoke, she couldn't just ignore her.
Susan sneered, "We're not close, and we have no ties anymore. No need to stop and chat, right?"
Since Vivian slapped her and Seb took back the compensation, they had no more ties. But Vivian still seemed hostile. Susan didn't care.
"It doesn't matter. If it weren't for you, George and I wouldn't have broken up. You say 'no relationship' so easily. I don't get what spell you cast on George and Seb. Now they're both infatuated with you and even fought. They're at odds, and the contract is voided. I've never seen a vixen like you!" Vivian accused, clearly agitated.
Susan frowned. So George and Vivian really broke up? She felt a bit guilty, even though she didn't owe Vivian anything.
Seb and George did fight in the hospital because of her. She thought they'd made up by now, but apparently not. And the contract between Prosperity Group and George and Vivian Law Firm was voided? She had no idea.
Susan stood up to explain. "Vivian, believe it or not, George and I have always been innocent. It's not worth breaking up over me. I love Seb, always have. I need to make that clear."
"But George loves you!" Vivian shouted, drawing attention from passersby.
Susan frowned. "That's just your assumption."
Vivian gave a bitter smile. "I wish it were, but George admitted it. Maybe nothing happened between you two, but there's definitely something there. Whether intentional or not, you made him fall for you!"
Annoyed, Susan said, "If that's what you think, there's nothing I can do. I'm leaving."
She picked up her resume and turned to leave, ignoring the angry Vivian.
"Susan, you're a homewrecker, and you won't have a good ending!" Vivian shouted.
Susan frowned but kept walking. She knew Vivian was hurting, but she didn't believe George admitted he loved her. Couples break up for many reasons, not necessarily because of her. However, she still felt uneasy.
