Chapter 437 Blushed

Susan strolled up to Isabella, who was busy scrubbing a towel at the sink, gave her a quick once-over, and blurted out, "Hold up, why's you blushing?"

"Bullshit! I ain't blushing!" Isabella snapped, tossing the towel aside and looking all flustered.

Susan crossed her arms, tilted her head, and smirked, "Something's up with you today. Oh, wait, do you have a crush on Leon or something?"

Susan remembered Isabella had only been chatting with Leon earlier. Could it be...

Isabella shot back, "Quit messing with me! What were you and Seb up to in the office earlier?"

Susan's arms dropped, and she couldn't quite meet Isabella's gaze. "What do you think? We were just talking."

Seeing Susan's guilty look, Isabella stepped closer and teased, "Liar. We heard a scream from inside, then it went dead quiet. Even a fool could guess what you two were up to."

Susan snapped back, "Why are you flipping this on me? We're talking about you!"

Isabella wouldn't let it go. "You two were totally fooling around in there, and we heard everything. Maria and I were mortified being left alone with Leon. Of course, I'd blush!"

"I just remembered, I gotta make a follow-up call to a client. I gotta go." Susan quickly made up an excuse and bolted. No way she was sticking around to let Isabella keep grilling her.

Watching Susan flee, Isabella didn't chase her like she usually would. She was feeling guilty herself.

She touched her cheek, feeling the heat.

What was wrong with her today? She'd seen Leon before, but today felt different.

Earlier, when she was squatting in front of him, wiping the stain off his pants, her heart was pounding like crazy, faster than it ever had for any guy.

Sure, Leon was handsome, a big shot at Prosperity Group, and a notable figure in Maple Valley, but she couldn't like him. There were probably tons of women after him. She was over thirty; why would he be interested in her?

Isabella kept telling herself she was just getting older and desperate to settle down. If a decent guy came along, she needed to act fast, or she might end up with some serious mental issues.

Susan, sitting in her swivel chair, touched her warm face, feeling pretty embarrassed about what had just gone down.

It was all Seb's fault for fooling around in the office. Now, everyone probably thought they were getting it on in there.

But Isabella's blushing was still bugging her. She just couldn't figure it out.

That weekend, Susan headed to the suburban sanatorium to visit Catherine and Dorothy.

In the clean ward, Dorothy, wearing a checkered hospital gown, sat on the balcony soaking up the sun.

Susan watched her for a moment. Dorothy's eyes were empty, staring blankly into the distance, like she didn't even see Susan.

Seeing her like that, Susan felt a pang of sadness.

"Mom, how's Dorothy been lately?" Susan asked softly.

Even though Dorothy had always been a pain and never treated Susan like a sister, seeing her like this really got to her.

"She's been better lately, just misses Amanda. She sits there alone every day, clutching Amanda's photo. Her temper's improved a lot. The doc said she could be discharged next month and continue her recovery at home," Catherine replied.

"That's good." Susan nodded. She hoped Dorothy's depression was just a phase and that she'd bounce back soon.

Then, Catherine suddenly asked, "Has James been bugging you since he couldn't find us?"

Hearing this, Susan looked down and stayed quiet.

Catherine frowned and said, "I knew it. If he couldn't find us, he'd definitely go after you."

"Mom, I don't mind, but once you and Dorothy go home, James will definitely come around. What should we do then? I'm worried it'll mess with Dorothy's recovery," Susan said, concerned.

Catherine thought for a moment and said, "Don't worry. I've made up my mind this time. I won't have anything to do with him, and I won't let him near Dorothy. Dorothy ended up like this mostly because of him. If he dares to harass us, I'll call the cops or fight him myself!"

Seeing the determination on Catherine's face, Susan knew she was serious this time, so she wasn't as worried. James was a bully who preyed on the weak. If they stood firm, he wouldn't dare do anything.

After sitting for a while, Susan stood up and said, "Mom, I brought some of your and Dorothy's favorite foods. It's getting cold, so I brought you some clothes and bought two thicker outfits. If you need anything, just call me."

"Got it. I'll walk you out," Catherine said, standing up.

Before leaving, Susan glanced back at Dorothy sitting on the balcony, then took Catherine's hand and left the ward.

Before leaving, Susan held Catherine's hand and said, "Mom, Seb and I are getting married next month. Oh, and we've already got our marriage license."

Hearing this, Catherine smiled with joy. "That's wonderful. You already have two kids, so it's time to settle down. You're a mother of two now, so you can't be reckless anymore. Seb is a good man. He has a big career and comes from a good family. It's only natural for him to have a bit of a temper. It's good enough that he didn't mind your past, so you should be more accommodating in the future."

Hearing this, Susan playfully smiled. "Mom, I'm not that bad. We all have two eyes and a nose. Who's better than whom?"

"You stubborn child!" Catherine laughed and scolded.

"Mom, maybe he likes my stubbornness," Susan teased.

Catherine pointed at Susan and laughed. "You've always been like this, but I'm relieved. If Dorothy had half of your stubbornness, she wouldn't be in this state."

As she spoke, Catherine began to cry.

Susan quickly comforted her, but she couldn't help feeling sad.
