Chapter 418 Worries
"Come on, you're living it up every day. What's got you stressing? Oh, wait, lemme guess. Can't find Mr. Right, huh?" Susan teased Isabella, trying to mask her own frustration.
Isabella shot back, clearly annoyed, "I thought you were my bestie, someone I could vent to, but all you do is mess with me. I'm done talking to you!"
She got up, ready to leave.
Seeing Isabella was genuinely upset, Susan quickly grabbed her arm and said, "My bad, my bad. I was just kidding. Come on, spill the tea. What's eating you? Lemme help."
Isabella sat back down, feeling a bit awkward. She fiddled with her nails and mumbled, "Last night..."
"What about last night? Did you have a hot date?" Susan jumped in.
Isabella rolled her eyes and snapped, "Stop with the wild guesses. Do you think I'm as lucky as you, hooking up with the CEO of Prosperity Group?"
"Sometimes I wonder if it's luck or a curse," Susan said, crossing her arms.
Honestly, even if she and Seb were doomed to split, she had no regrets. She had loved fiercely at least. Without Seb, she wouldn't have known such deep love.
And he gave her two adorable kids. If she hadn't met him, she might've married someone else and had different kids, but they wouldn't be Hayden and Spring.
"Quit whining. I wish I had your kind of luck," Isabella said, rolling her eyes again.
"Okay, okay, back to you. What happened?" Susan asked, all ears.
Isabella blushed and said shyly, "Last night... Derek told me he likes me!"
Susan's eyes went wide, staring at Isabella in shock.
When Susan didn't say anything, Isabella looked up and asked, "Why aren't you saying anything?"
"Derek likes you?" Susan said, still in disbelief.
Seeing Susan's reaction, Isabella stood up, annoyed. "So what if Derek's a bit older? He's still a man, right? Isn't it normal for him to like someone young and pretty like me? Why are you looking at me like that?"
"It's not that. Derek's over fifty. I thought he had a wife and kids," Susan quickly explained.
Isabella calmed down a bit and said, "He said his wife passed away a few years ago. Lots of women have tried to marry him since, but he thinks they're just after his money. He wants a good, honest woman to spend his life with. He said when he first saw me, I reminded him of his late wife, so..."
Hearing this, Susan paced around the office, holding her chin. "Actually, Derek's pretty well-off, looks good, is generous, and has a great sense of humor. He's a catch. It's just... he's old enough to be your dad!"
Hearing this, Isabella shot up from the couch.
Susan quickly backpedaled, "But hey, if you're into older guys, it's actually kinda sweet. They know how to treat you right and always put you first."
Isabella sighed, "Yeah, Derek's awesome, except for the whole age thing. But his son is almost my age. I don't wanna be a stepmom to someone practically my peer!"
Susan thought for a second and then asked, "Do you even like Derek like that?"
"Like how?" Isabella looked puzzled.
Susan rubbed her forehead, "You know, like romantically. Do you have feelings for him?"
Isabella's face twisted in discomfort. "He's way older. How could I have feelings for him? I like him, but more like a dad. He's not super rich, but he's well-off. I wouldn't have to struggle so much!"
"Get outta here!" Susan pushed her playfully. "If you don't have those feelings, then just drop it!"
Isabella fretted, "But I'm already thirty. All the good guys are getting snatched up by younger, prettier girls. I don't wanna settle for some unattractive dude. What do I do?"
Seeing Isabella's worried face, Susan patted her shoulder. "Chill, girl. Rushing won't help. Your time will come."
Isabella glanced at Susan and asked, "Can you tell me when my time will come?"
"Hmm, within three years." Susan held up three fingers.
Isabella almost fainted. "Three more years? By then, I'll be old and washed up!"
"Calm down. Love can't be rushed. And honestly, Derek's not your match," Susan said firmly.
"Just 'cause he's older?" Isabella pouted.
"The age gap will cause issues. He might look like he's in his forties now, but in ten years? He'll be in his sixties, and you'll be forty. He might need you to take care of him," Susan said bluntly.
Isabella nodded. "That's true."
Susan leaned in and whispered, "The main issue is your sex life won't be in sync. Women hit their prime in their thirties and forties, but by the time he's in his sixties, he might only have his imagination left!"
Isabella couldn't help but laugh and playfully hit Susan. "You're always messing with me!"
Susan ducked behind her desk, laughing. "I'm just keeping it real!"
Isabella slowly sat back down, furrowing her brows. "You're right. I'll just pass on Derek."
She got up and headed for the door. But before leaving, she turned back to Susan and asked seriously, "Can I ask you something?"
