Chapter 1363 Six Months Later
Seeing Elijah's stunned expression, Cecilia chuckled, "Since we're leaving anyway, why not just get a move on? Thaddeus is off the bottle now, and with Freya looking after him and the Fields family doting on him, I feel at ease."
Elijah nodded. "Alright, just make sure to come back early to see Thaddeus."
"Sure," Cecilia agreed.
Elijah then turned and headed upstairs.
After watching Elijah leave, Cecilia noticed the door across the hall was slightly ajar. She knew Daryl was home today.
She glanced at the door briefly before turning to go downstairs.
At that moment, a tall figure stood behind the slightly open door, feeling a sense of loss.
He had overheard the entire conversation between Elijah and Cecilia and couldn't help but frown.
She was leaving. Though he had anticipated this, hearing the news suddenly still unsettled him.
Daryl then walked to the window, pulled out a cigarette from a golden case, and lit it, taking a few agitated puffs.
Over the past two years, his smoking habit had grown significantly. His clothes and the house reeked of tobacco, despite daily ventilation. He had grown accustomed to the smell, but others couldn't help but cough when they entered.
The next morning, before the sun had risen, Cecilia sat by the bed, gazing longingly at the sleeping Thaddeus.
Though she had mentally prepared herself, Cecilia couldn't help but cry, feeling as if her heart was being torn apart at the thought of leaving Thaddeus.
She gently touched Thaddeus's chubby hand, kissed his plump cheek, and whispered, "Thaddeus, Mommy will come back to see you soon."
With that, Cecilia picked up her packed suitcase and left the bedroom without looking back.
She couldn't turn around, fearing that doing so would make it even harder to leave.
In the early morning, the Fields Mansion was quiet. The family was still asleep, and the servants hadn't started their work yet.
Cecilia chose this time to leave to avoid disturbing anyone. She didn't want anyone to see her off, as it would be too heartbreaking. It was better to disappear quietly.
She walked down the cobblestone path with her suitcase, only the security guard watching her leave.
As she exited the mansion's ornate black gate, Cecilia glanced back once before quickly walking away.
At that moment, a tall figure stood by a second-floor window.
He wore a gray robe and had been standing there for a long time.
He had guessed she would leave when no one was watching, and he was right.
He had been sleepless all night, the room filled with the pungent smell of smoke, the ashtray overflowing with cigarette butts, and his eyes bloodshot.
Through his observations over the days, he had realized that Cecilia and Elijah probably had nothing between them.
However, his obsessive jealousy and possessiveness made him believe they might be deliberately distancing themselves to put on a show for him.
He had never truly let go of Cecilia, but his intense jealousy and possessiveness prevented him from fully resolving his feelings, especially since Thaddeus was born nearly a month past his due date. This was hard to accept both logically and medically, and it was the main reason Daryl couldn't trust Cecilia.
Six months later
In the winter, the Fields Mansion was warm despite the howling wind outside.
Thaddeus had learned to walk and was toddling around the living room, occasionally waving a toy at Azalea on the sofa, sometimes calling out sweetly, "Grandma."
Every time Azalea heard "Grandma," she couldn't help but smile and would lovingly pat Thaddeus's head, giving him a treat, which made him run off happily to play.
Finn watched Thaddeus running around the living room and chuckled, "Mrs. Fields, ever since Thaddeus came, the house has been lively, and you've been much happier, always smiling."
Azalea nodded, "Yes, Thaddeus is my entire hope and happiness. Those two brats never give me peace, but Thaddeus is so well-behaved!"
Finn lowered her head, "Indeed, if Mr. Daryl Fields and Mr. Elijah Fields could settle down and have more children, the Fields family would be even more lively."
"I don't even think about that anymore. Now that I have Thaddeus, they can marry if they want, or not if they don't. I don't care and can't control it!" Azalea's tone carried a hint of helplessness, as she couldn't manage her two sons.
At that moment, a figure walked in from the entrance.
"Mom!" Daryl called out, then sat on the sofa.
"Why are you back so early today? No social engagements?" Azalea was surprised to see Daryl.
Since Azalea's health had stabilized, Daryl had thrown himself back into work, usually leaving early and returning late.
Daryl smiled, "Mom, it sounds like you don't want me to come back early?"
"Now that I have Thaddeus, you can come back or not!" Azalea glanced at Thaddeus playing with toys at the table and smiled kindly.
Looking at the increasingly adorable Thaddeus, Daryl couldn't help but say, "Mom, now that you have a grandson, you don't need your sons anymore?"
Azalea replied, "You two never give me peace. You're always working, and Elijah is always running around. Elijah left early this morning and said he'd be back in a week."
Daryl frowned slightly.
At that moment, Thaddeus toddled over to Daryl, extending his chubby hand with a piece of candy.
"Candy, candy, eat. Eat," Thaddeus said unclearly.
Daryl listened for a while before realizing Thaddeus wanted him to eat the candy.
Despite Daryl's busy schedule and limited time with Thaddeus, the child always approached him with food or toys, touched his shoes or pants, and laughed at him, clearly wanting to be close to him, even trying to please him.
Whenever this happened, Daryl's feelings became very complicated.
