Chapter 945 Jealousy Arises
"He said he'd pick me up after work tonight," Isabella said, blushing.
Susan clapped her hands, grinning. "So, are you two a thing now?"
"I don't know, maybe," Isabella replied shyly, looking down.
"Looks like you handled things well yesterday!" Susan teased.
"Hey, you ditched me and bailed," Isabella shot back.
Susan shrugged, looking guilty. "What could I do? The whole Anderson clan was there, and Seb too. It was super awkward."
Seeing Susan's guilty expression, Isabella patted her hand. "It's okay, I don't blame you."
Susan smiled and said, "Seems like Alfonso showed up to help you out. If it weren't for him, who knows how long things with Leon would have dragged on!"
Thinking of Alfonso, Isabella felt uneasy. She still remembered his helpless and disappointed face from yesterday.
Just then, Isabella's phone rang.
Isabella took out her phone and froze.
"Who is it?" Susan asked, noticing Isabella's expression.
"Alfonso," Isabella replied.
Susan covered her face. "We were just talking about him, and now he's calling."
Isabella answered the phone. "Alfonso?"
Alfonso hesitated. "Isabella, I went to pick you up this morning and saw Leon dropping you off at work."
Isabella frowned. Alfonso had always been the one to pick her up and drop her off. How could she have forgotten?
She must have been so dazzled by Leon that she forgot everything else.
"Oh, yes, I'm sorry, Alfonso. I forgot to tell you not to come," Isabella apologized.
"Does this mean you won't need me to pick you up anymore?" Alfonso asked, his voice tinged with sadness.
Isabella felt sorry for him, but feelings couldn't be forced. She struggled to find the right words.
After a long silence, Alfonso bitterly smiled. "I get it. If you ever need my help again, just call. I'd be happy to help."
Isabella quickly said, "Alfonso, you're really great. You'll definitely find someone better than me."
"Are you trying to comfort me?" Alfonso asked.
"I'm just telling the truth," Isabella frowned. She didn't expect rejecting someone could be so painful.
"I just hope we can still be friends," Alfonso said hesitantly.
Isabella smiled. "We are friends forever. I won't forget the help you've given me."
During her toughest times, Alfonso had helped her a lot. Isabella felt she owed him.
"That makes me feel better. Alright, I won't keep you. I have a court session soon, and I can't let negative emotions affect my performance," Alfonso said.
"Good luck!" With Isabella's blessing, the call ended.
Susan looked at Isabella's smiling face and asked, "All settled?"
"Yeah," Isabella nodded.
"I've got high hopes for Leon. Make sure you cherish him," Susan said, patting Isabella's shoulder.
"Got it," Isabella smiled.
For the first time, Isabella was eagerly looking forward to getting off work because she would see Leon. She couldn't help but mock herself, 'I'm not a twenty-year-old girl anymore, why am I so excited?' As it got closer to the end of the workday, Isabella's heart started to race.
At 5:30 PM, Leon showed up at the office entrance right on time.
Seeing Leon come to pick up Isabella, Susan smiled and quickly stepped aside.
Isabella, sitting in a wheelchair, was pushed out of the office building by Leon. She couldn't suppress the smile on her face and asked, "What's for dinner tonight?"
"Steak," Leon replied.
"Do we need to hit the supermarket for ingredients?" Isabella asked.
"I've already got everything," Leon said.
Hearing this, Isabella frowned and asked, "You leave work early to buy ingredients. Won't Seb be mad?"
Isabella knew Leon was usually very busy. Wherever Seb went, Leon went too. Now that he left work early, she was secretly worried for him.
Leon smirked and said, "You do care about me, don't you?"
Isabella immediately said, "I'm just worried you'll get fired and won't have money to buy ingredients to cook for me!"
Leon raised an eyebrow and said, "Don't worry, I always put work first. I bought the ingredients during my lunch break, and today a dedicated driver took Mr. Anderson home."
Hearing this, Isabella felt relieved, but his comment about putting work first still made her a bit uncomfortable, thinking she must be second in his heart.
Isabella felt she was becoming more and more sensitive. A man should prioritize his career. Besides, they had just started dating and hadn't developed deep feelings yet. It was understandable for him to put work first.
Isabella felt that she didn't care about career or fame anymore; she just wanted Leon to always have her in his heart.
The car drove smoothly down the road. Isabella, sitting in the passenger seat, glanced at Leon, who was focused on driving, and felt incredibly happy. But the happiness came so quickly that she wasn't quite used to it.
"Why are you looking at me?" Leon's voice suddenly broke the silence in the car.
"Aren't you concentrating on driving? How did you notice I was looking at you?" Isabella asked, amused.
"I'm used to it. I always stay alert and aware of my surroundings. How else do you think I became Mr. Anderson's right-hand man?" Leon said, smiling as he looked at the road ahead.
Catching his self-satisfied smirk, Isabella couldn't help but rolled her eyes.
"By the way, why hasn't that guy been bothering you these past two days?" Leon suddenly asked.
Isabella didn't react immediately. "His name is Alfonso."
At this point, Leon, holding the steering wheel, reluctantly said, "Fine, Alfonso. I noticed he hasn't shown up around your house or office these past two days. Has he finally figured it out and backed off? Or is he afraid of running into me and getting beaten up?"
