Chapter 232 She Will Never Fall in Love with Another Man
Half an hour later, Seb was already in the back seat of the car. Leon was driving. It was night, but the streets were still busy. The car's interior was dim, with occasional lights from outside.
They were driving alongside a bus, neither passing it nor falling behind. Despite honking from impatient drivers, the luxury car kept pace with the bus.
Seb's eyes were glued to Susan, who was sitting by the bus window. She looked tired, resting with her eyes half-closed. Seb couldn't take his eyes off her, even though he couldn't see her clearly.
Lately, Seb had been either waiting at the coffee shop near Susan's office to catch a glimpse of her or having Leon drive behind her bus until she got home. To avoid being recognized, Seb switched from his Bentley to a Mercedes.
For over six months, Seb had missed Susan but couldn't get close. After learning she had started working, he could only watch her from a distance to ease his longing.
The bus reached its stop, and the Mercedes parked nearby. Seb watched Susan's slender figure get off the bus and walk into the community until she disappeared. Once she was out of sight, he reclined, shut his eyes, and murmured, "Let's go."
Leon quickly stepped on the gas, and the car merged back into traffic. After a long silence, Leon hesitantly broached, "Mr. Anderson, now that Hayden's condition has stabilized, why not explain everything to Ms. Wilson?"
Seb, eyes still closed, took a moment before answering, "The doctor said Hayden's condition is stable, but we need to wait for next month's checkup. If all indicators are normal, Hayden will be fully recovered. I want to bring her a healthy Hayden and not make her worry. Since I've waited this long, why rush now?"
Feeling indebted to Susan and reluctant to add to her troubles, Seb buried his feelings, opting to watch over her discreetly from a distance. This silent vigil brought him solace, knowing she was safe.
Leon hesitated, frowning slightly. "Is there something you want to say?" Seb asked, sensing Leon's hesitation.
"Nothing escapes you," Leon replied with a smile.
"Even though we're boss and employee, over the years, you know what I think, and I know what you think," Seb said, smiling slightly.
Seb was right. Over the years, their relationship had grown beyond just boss and employee. Leon was the person Seb trusted the most.
"Now that Ms. Wilson and Mr. George Anderson are spending so much time together, aren't you worried he might try to start something with her?" Leon asked, choosing his words carefully since he knew how jealous Seb could get.
Seb's lips curled into a confident, cold smile. "Susan will never fall for another man."
"Are you that sure?" Leon asked.
"Absolutely," Seb replied, then turned to look out the window, falling silent but with a slight furrow in his brow.
That evening, George went straight to Susan's place after work. It had become a routine. Whenever he didn't have other plans, he'd have dinner there since both Serenity and Susan were there, saving him from cooking, which he wasn't good at anyway.
As soon as he walked in, George saw Susan on the sofa, grimacing in pain while applying ointment to her ankle and calf.
"What happened?" George asked, putting down his briefcase and walking over.
"I tripped," Susan said, forcing a smile.
She had taken quite a tumble today and struggled to get up until a few kind people helped her. Otherwise, she would've been stuck on the crosswalk for a while.
George looked down and saw her swollen ankle and bruised, scraped calf.
"How did it get this bad? Let me check if it's sprained," George said, reaching for her ankle.
"It's not sprained." Susan quickly shook her head, but George's hand was already on her ankle.
His hand was so warm it made Susan feel a bit embarrassed, but she didn't pull away.
Susan's feet were indeed very beautiful. George had actually finished checking but was reluctant to let go, pretending to continue his examination.
Feeling a bit embarrassed by George touching her foot, Susan's face turned red, and she lowered her eyes.
After a while, Susan asked, "Is it sprained?"
"No," George quickly snapped back to reality. He let go of her foot and took the ointment from her hand. "Let me apply it for you."
"Thank you," Susan said, not refusing and expressing her gratitude.
George applied the ointment carefully, covering every injured spot on her calf.
The living room grew tense. As soon as he had finished, Susan swiftly retracted her leg and smoothed down her pant leg, easing the awkward atmosphere.
George felt his throat dry up. Casting a quick glance at Serenity, who was busy cooking in the kitchen, he awkwardly asked, "Where's Spring?"
"Spring didn't nap this afternoon, so she's sleeping now," Susan replied.
"Oh, then you can have a peaceful meal without her fussing," George said, his smile a bit forced.
"Um, I'll go wash my hands," Susan said, feeling strange and not knowing what to say next. Using the need to wash her hands as a reason, she excused herself from the room.
As she rose hastily, her leg unexpectedly went numb, causing her to stumble slightly and almost lose her balance."Careful!" George stepped forward and caught her by the waist.
