Chapter 1297 Handsome Elijah
Cecilia didn't say anything, her silence showing she was mulling it over.
Azalea glanced at Cecilia before getting up and heading back to her bedroom.
Tears streamed down Cecilia's face as she stood there, overwhelmed with emotion.
Just then, some servants came in to clean. Not wanting to be seen crying, Cecilia quickly got up and walked out of the villa.
In the backyard, there was a greenhouse where Cecilia often went when she needed to think. It was a quiet place, only visited by the gardener occasionally.
As soon as Cecilia stepped into the greenhouse, she sat down in front of a blooming orchid and began to sob uncontrollably.
Azalea was indeed a master manipulator. Her words had shattered all of Cecilia's confidence. Before this conversation, Cecilia had been telling herself that she had to hold on, that she and Daryl would never be separated.
But now, she was hesitant, utterly lost.
She looked at the vibrant orchid she had cared for so long, her heart filled with sorrow.
Was she really going to leave Daryl? The thought of it made her heart ache as if it were being cut by a knife.
But if she didn't leave, would she really let Daryl live a childless life, dying alone in the end?
Cecilia was torn, not knowing what to do, when a male voice suddenly came from behind her.
"Cecilia?"
She looked up through her tears and saw Elijah's youthful, strong face, so much like Daryl's.
Quickly, she lowered her head and wiped her tears with the back of her hand.
She hadn't expected Elijah to be there. She must look terrible right now.
Seeing this, Elijah pulled out a couple of tissues from his pocket and handed them to her, then crouched down in front of her, his eyes full of sympathy.
"Thanks," Cecilia said, taking the tissues awkwardly and wiping her tears and nose.
After she finished, she looked down and forced a smile. "I washed that handkerchief you lent me, but I forgot to return it."
Elijah had given her a handkerchief or tissues to wipe her tears twice now. Cecilia bitterly thought that he had seen her at her most helpless and unattractive.
Elijah smiled. "It's just a handkerchief, Cecilia. Don't worry about it."
"Okay," Cecilia nodded.
Then Elijah suddenly said, "I heard your conversation with my mom just now."
Cecilia's head shot up, meeting Elijah's concerned gaze.
Elijah looked at her with sympathy. "Cecilia, you don't have to take my mom's words to heart."
Cecilia was taken aback.
Elijah continued, "My mom loves Daryl, but she hasn't considered your feelings or your relationship."
"But what she said makes sense. A man, especially a great man, living his whole life without children is truly sad," Cecilia said.
"Daryl isn't just any guy. He doesn't care about that. He only cares about you," Elijah emphasized.
Hearing this, Cecilia's tears flowed again. "I know how Daryl feels about me, but how can I be so selfish? He's done so much for me, even giving up his position as CEO of Fields Group. If I can never have children, I don't want to see him grow old and die alone."
By the end, Cecilia was sobbing uncontrollably.
Elijah frowned deeply.
Seeing Cecilia's shoulders shaking with sobs, Elijah stepped forward and held her shoulders to comfort her. "Cecilia, don't be so sad. Don't take my mom's words to heart. If Daryl sees you like this, he'll be heartbroken!"
Elijah's last words made Cecilia cry even harder, her whole body shaking.
He quickly pulled her into his arms, gently patting her back. "Cecilia, calm down!"
But Cecilia was too distraught to calm down.
Even though she knew it was inappropriate, she couldn't stop herself from crying her heart out in Elijah's arms.
Elijah watched her, his brows furrowed, looking down at her without knowing what to say, only offering tissues when needed.
After a long time, Cecilia finally stopped crying and regained her composure.
When she calmed down, she noticed Elijah's hands were still on her shoulders. She stepped back.
Elijah awkwardly withdrew his hands and stepped back as well, putting some distance between them.
"Sorry, Cecilia, you were too emotional just now," Elijah said, rubbing the back of his neck.
"I should be the one apologizing. I couldn't control my emotions," Cecilia said, also feeling awkward.
She had fallen into Elijah's arms without realizing it, which was inappropriate.
But she had noticed Elijah's strong, masculine scent, different from Daryl's.
Elijah's scent was more youthful and vigorous, while Daryl's was steady and attractive, full of masculine charm.
Elijah spoke seriously. "Cecilia, I know Daryl well. He's deeply in love with you. Don't listen to my mom. You'll regret it."
"But..." Cecilia frowned, wanting to say something.
Elijah interrupted her. "I think Daryl is right. You shouldn't stay here anymore. You should move out as soon as possible."
Cecilia frowned deeply.
Elijah was a good person, considering things from her and Daryl's perspective. But moving out would mean Daryl would have to break ties with his parents.
She couldn't give Daryl a child, and she couldn't let him lose his parents either. So she wouldn't let Daryl do that.
Cecilia suddenly grabbed Elijah's arm, pleading. "Elijah, promise me you won't tell Daryl about the conversation with your mom today!"
Elijah frowned, staring at Cecilia. "My mom is trying to force you to leave, and you still want to keep it from Daryl?"
