Chapter 1127 Making Trouble

During this time, Barry and Cecilia conversed cautiously.

Barry never brought up Daryl again, which made Cecilia feel at ease. After all, if Barry had mentioned him, Cecilia wouldn't have known how to respond.

"Have you been studying 'One Hundred Years of Solitude' lately?" Barry suddenly asked with a smile.

Hearing this, Cecilia replied, "Since I came back, I've been so busy with various things that I haven't had the leisure for it."

In reality, every time she saw that book, memories of Daryl would flood her mind, so she had locked it away in a box and hadn't touched it for days.

"I noticed you haven't been looking well lately. Is it because you haven't adjusted since coming back from abroad?" Barry asked with concern, scrutinizing Cecilia closely.

Hearing this, Cecilia felt genuinely touched. After all, there weren't many people who cared about her this much.

Cecilia then nervously touched her cheek and said dismissively, "Maybe it's because I was exhausted from rushing my thesis and defense. After coming back, I've been busy looking for an apartment and a job, and I haven't had time to rest."

"With your abilities, you'll definitely pass the probation period. Don't worry too much." Barry kindly reassured her.

"I understand, thank you." Cecilia smiled slightly, though she was still worried inside.

At that moment, Cecilia suddenly felt a wave of nausea and quickly got up to go to the restroom.

Barry watched Cecilia's retreating figure and stood up nervously, but since she was heading to the restroom, he couldn't follow her.

A few minutes later, when Cecilia returned, Barry asked with concern, "Cecilia, are you okay?"

"Well, my stomach hasn't been feeling well these past few days," Cecilia lied, not daring to lift her eyes.

"Stomach issues can be serious. Make sure to see a doctor," Barry advised with concern.

"I know." Cecilia smiled.

Barry still wasn't reassured and scrutinized Cecilia again, sensing something was off but not wanting to pry further.

After dinner, Barry insisted on driving Cecilia home, but she firmly refused.

She knew Barry's feelings for her, but she didn't want to give him false hope. Tonight's dinner was just a reunion of old friends, and she hoped he understood that, so she had deliberately kept her distance during the meal.

The next morning, as soon as Cecilia sat down at her desk, she saw Calista storming in from outside.

Seeing Calista's sour expression, Cecilia lowered her head to focus on her work, not wanting to stir up trouble.

However, Calista walked straight to Cecilia's desk and knocked on it rather unfriendly.

Cecilia looked up to see Calista glaring at her with a fierce look, leaving Cecilia puzzled as to what she had done to offend her this time.

Cecilia felt that if this continued, she might not last a month at this company before having to leave.

Calista looked down at Cecilia and said, "Ms. Lawson wants to see you."

After saying that, Calista arrogantly turned and walked back to her desk.

Hearing that Seraphine wanted to see her, Cecilia was puzzled.

Logically, Seraphine wouldn't directly meet with someone as insignificant as her. With no other choice, Cecilia quickly got up.

When Cecilia sat in Seraphine's office, Seraphine not only looked Cecilia up and down but was also much more amiable than the first time they met.

"Cecilia, what do your parents do for a living? Who else is in your family?" Seraphine unexpectedly asked personal questions.

Cecilia furrowed her brows in confusion but still answered, "My father passed away early on. It's just my mother, my brother, and his wife at home. My mother isn't in good health, so she stays home doing housework."

Hearing this, Seraphine nodded. "It must have been tough for you to get a master's degree."

Hearing this, Cecilia's eyes redden.

Indeed, there were several times when she thought her studies would be interrupted.

Then, Seraphine smiled and said, "Your team is going to have a personal interview. Calista has invited Victoria Tate, a socialite from Maple Valley. Our magazine values this interview highly. Victoria is quite famous in Maple Valley, especially her love story with her fiancé, which has recently become a popular tale. I want you to assist Calista with this interview and the article. Hopefully, our magazine's sales will increase."

Hearing this, Cecilia felt overjoyed.

Cecilia thought she wouldn't be able to get a permanent position, but she didn't expect Seraphine to specifically ask her to participate in such an important interview.

"You've been with our magazine for over half a month now, and honestly, you haven't produced any notable work. If this interview is successful, you'll definitely pass the probation period. Work hard!" Seraphine encouraged Cecilia with a smile.

Hearing this, Cecilia stood up and bowed to Seraphine. "Thank you, Ms. Lawson, for the opportunity. I will do my best to assist Calista with this interview."

"Alright, discuss the details with Calista." Seraphine nodded.

"I'll be going then." Cecilia then left Seraphine's office.

Walking out of Seraphine's office, Cecilia felt a bit elated, as her chances of getting a permanent position seemed hopeful.

Just as she was about to enter the team office, a figure blocked her way.

Looking up, Cecilia saw Calista standing in front of her.

"Ms. Day." Cecilia's smile instantly froze on her face.

"Follow me." Calista glanced at Cecilia and then turned, storming into the nearby break room.

Sensing Calista's displeasure, Cecilia had no choice but to follow her into the break room.

As soon as Cecilia entered, Calista closed the door and turned to angrily question, "Cecilia, what was your relationship with Barry during your time studying in Northstar City?"

Hearing this, Cecilia knew it was about Barry.

"Barry and I are just schoolmates," Cecilia answered calmly.

However, Calista didn't believe her and glared at Cecilia with a sinister look. "Barry cares so much about you. How could you just be schoolmates? Tell me, did you know Barry is Seraphine's son, so you deliberately got close to him to have him speak for you in front of Seraphine, ensuring you get a permanent position?"

Hearing these accusations, Cecilia hesitated for a moment before responding firmly, "Ms. Day, that's all your imagination. Barry and I are never more than classmates. If you're here to ask about personal matters, I don't think I need to tell you. If there's nothing else, I'll get back to work."

With that, Cecilia turned to leave.
