Chapter 989 I Want to Save Both of You
Feeling Isabella behind him, Leon asked softly, "Hungry?"
"Yeah, the baby is," Isabella said, pressing her face against his back.
Leon chuckled. "Using the baby as an excuse again, huh?"
Isabella pouted. "I knew once the baby came, you'd care more about them than me."
Leon spun around quickly. "I'll take care of both of you!"
"That's better," Isabella grinned, touching her belly. "The baby’s due next month. I can't wait. Wonder if it'll be a boy or a girl, and who they'll look like."
"Doesn't matter to me," Leon said, smiling at her.
"They say you only really get what your parents went through when you become one yourself. I miss my mom more now. Carrying a baby for nine months and giving birth is no joke," Isabella said, getting emotional.
Leon glanced at her belly and went quiet for a bit.
Seeing his distant look, Isabella knew he was thinking about his own mom.
Sure enough, Leon said while chopping veggies, "No matter how much I try to be good to my mom now, she doesn't respond."
"I think she does. She smiles at you and looks at my belly and smiles," Isabella said quickly.
"I visited her yesterday," Leon said.
"How is she?" Isabella knew Nora had always been out of it.
After a pause, Leon said, "He was there when I went."
"Who?" Isabella asked, frowning.
Leon didn't answer, but Isabella got it.
It had to be Leon's dad, who had visited last time. Looked like Zane took her advice and went to see Nora.
"He's actually pretty pitiful," Isabella said hesitantly.
Leon got agitated. "Pitiful? What about my mom and me? He enjoyed my grandpa's wealth, married a young wife, had kids. Now he's lost everything but the money, so his misery is his own doing."
Seeing Leon get worked up, Isabella quickly hugged his arm. "Okay, let's not talk about sad stuff. Let's talk about something happy. The baby’s coming next month. What should we name them?"
Leon’s face softened, and he smiled. "I've got names. If it's a boy, Milo Johnson. If it's a girl, Rhiannon Johnson."
Isabella nodded. "If it's a boy, I hope he does great things. If it's a girl, I just want her to be happy and comfortable."
"Exactly what I was thinking," Leon agreed.
"I love both names!" Isabella beamed at him.
"Glad you do. Now go chill on the couch. I need to focus on cooking, and you’re a distraction," Leon said, holding the veggies.
"Okay, you cook, and I'll chat with the baby," Isabella said, smiling as she moved to the couch.
Watching Leon hustle in the kitchen, Isabella frowned a bit. She thought, 'The beef between Leon and Zane runs deep. Even if Zane regrets it now, it's too late.'
Time flew by, and half a month zipped past.
One night, Isabella got up to use the bathroom.
For the past two months, she'd been getting up seven or eight times a night, messing up her sleep, which was really tough.
With the due date coming up, Leon stayed home every night, always keeping an eye on Isabella.
Seeing Leon sleeping soundly, Isabella tiptoed to avoid waking him.
These days, Leon was also super tired from taking care of her. Even though Isabella had gained weight, Leon seemed to have lost some, which made her feel both touched and sad.
To keep from waking Leon, Isabella went to the bathroom by the moonlight without turning on the light.
Suddenly, a scream echoed, and Leon shot up.
He saw the empty pillow beside him and quickly ran out of the bedroom.
Leon vaguely saw Isabella sitting on the living room floor and immediately turned on the light.
"What happened?" Leon held Isabella in his arms.
"I slipped on my way to the bathroom!" Isabella's forehead was already sweating.
Hearing this, Leon frowned and scolded, "Didn't I tell you to call me at night? Why don't you listen? And why didn't you turn on the light?"
"I saw you sleeping soundly and didn't want to wake you," Isabella said, touching her belly, her eyes filled with panic.
"I'll help you up," Leon said, both worried and anxious.
"No! It hurts so much." Isabella's face twisted in pain. She reached out her hand and saw it covered in blood, letting out a scream.
Leon saw the blood on Isabella's hand and frowned deeply.
"Leon, will the baby be okay?" Isabella clutched Leon's pajamas, extremely nervous.
"Don't worry, the baby will be fine. We're going to the hospital right now!" The next moment, Leon picked Isabella up and rushed out.
Leon placed Isabella in the passenger seat and drove quickly to the best obstetrics and gynecology hospital in the city.
Late at night, the outside world was silent. The autumn wind rustled the leaves, making the atmosphere even more unsettling.
Isabella leaned against the passenger seat, holding her belly. Her face was pale, and her legs were trembling, either from the cold or from nervousness.
"Hold on, we're almost there!" Leon glanced at Isabella, his brows furrowed.
Isabella, still nervous, grabbed Leon's sleeve and said, "Leon, I'm so scared!"
"Don't worry, I'm here. Everything will be fine," Leon said, holding Isabella's hand with one of his.
At that moment, Isabella felt his hand was especially warm and strong, calming her heart significantly.
The next moment, still uneasy, Isabella tightened her grip on Leon's hand and urged. "Leon, promise me, if it comes down to it, tell the doctor to save the baby, not me, okay?"
Hearing this, Leon's face turned particularly serious. He tightly held Isabella's hand and firmly said, "I want to save both of you!"
