Chapter 144 Deep Affection
That afternoon, Susan visited Hayden, who could now walk and was thrilled to see her, even giving her a big apple. Susan wasn't sure if he still recognized her, but he was always friendly.
They played together until dusk. Susan left because she worried about finding a taxi.
Hayden clung to her clothes with his chubby hands, saying he didn't want her to go.
Even after leaving, Susan kept thinking about his words: "Don't, don't go!"
She felt sad but had no reason to stay. She hugged and kissed him, promising to visit often.
Hayden seemed to understand and went back to Mary, letting Susan leave.
Outside, Susan watched Mary carry Hayden back inside. She sighed and looked for a taxi.
Just then, a black Bentley sped towards her, silhouetted by the setting sun.
Seeing the car, Susan felt a stir in her heart.
The Bentley stopped, and Seb, in a black trench coat, walked up to her.
"I knew you'd come to see Hayden today," Seb said warmly.
"How did you know?" Susan asked, surprised but pleased.
Running into Seb here today was a bit unexpected, but honestly, she felt pleasantly surprised.
Seb gently pinched her nose. "It's Friday. Prosperity Group has executive meetings every Friday afternoon. You thought you wouldn't run into me, right?"
Susan smiled. Seb had figured out her plan. She chose today because she knew he'd be in a meeting.
"We agreed not to see each other for half a month," Susan said.
"We've stuck to it. This is just a coincidence, right?" Seb smiled.
"You're so sneaky," Susan said, trying to look stern.
Seb's expression turned serious. "It's been a week. I missed you so much I had to try my luck. And I got lucky!"
"Did the meeting end early?" Susan asked, missing him too.
Seb checked his watch and smiled. "I moved it up to 2 PM, so it ended at 5 PM. I got here by 6 PM. If I had been a minute later, I would've missed you. We're meant to be, right?"
Hearing how thoughtful Seb was, Susan couldn't scold him. She stepped forward, grabbed his trench coat collar, and smiled. "Alright, we've seen each other. Let's stick to our agreement."
"Can you stay with me for two more minutes?" Seb asked, almost pleading.
Susan couldn't refuse. "Okay, two more minutes."
Seb looked at the sky and said, "Cynthia's out of the hospital. I've booked her a flight to Averlake in three days. Soon, I'll have everything sorted and be back with you."
Susan felt a wave of emotion. Seb was responsible, and despite past misunderstandings, his actions showed integrity and loyalty. She valued his deep affection most.
She stepped into his embrace, feeling his broad chest like a solid mountain. A sense of happiness and security enveloped her.
The orange sunset bathed them, and time seemed to stand still.
Susan closed her eyes, wishing time could freeze.
Seb's chin rested on her forehead, and they stayed close until nightfall.
The area was remote, with no passersby, allowing them to embrace uninterrupted.
Leon, waiting in the car, felt awkward. He wanted to get out and stretch but couldn't, as it would ruin the atmosphere. So he stayed in the car, waiting.
As city lights began to shine, Susan reluctantly got into Seb's Bentley since it was late and taxis were scarce.
In the car, Leon focused on driving.
In the back seat, they leaned against each other, whispering and laughing.
Susan playfully hit Seb's chest. "You planned this, didn't you? Now it's late, and I have to take your car home."
Seb smiled triumphantly. "Thanks to Hayden for keeping you here until dark."
Susan's face lit up with affection. "Hayden has grown so much. He can walk and didn't want me to leave, saying, 'Don't go.
"Seeing how much you like Hayden, I'm relieved. Next time, I'll teach him to call you 'Mom,'" Seb said, holding her waist.
Susan was taken aback but quickly understood. She playfully slapped his shoulder. "Who's his mom?"
In truth, Susan did want to be Hayden's mom. She fantasized about him calling her "Mom" and knew she would raise him well if he accepted her.
