Chapter 1324 Demonstration
Hearing that familiar voice, Cecilia looked up and saw a young woman in a pink dress and high heels approaching Daryl.
"Daryl, are you okay?" Skylar asked anxiously, scanning him from head to toe.
Daryl frowned at Skylar's sudden appearance.
Skylar quickly explained, "I heard the announcement about your flight hitting severe turbulence. They said it was dangerous, and I was so scared. I didn't know what to do and didn't dare call godmother, afraid she'd be shocked. But thank goodness you're back safe. I don't know what I would have done otherwise."
Cecilia stopped in her tracks, maintaining a respectable distance from them.
Skylar's eyes were filled with tears, her gaze full of concern.
Daryl's frown deepened as he saw Skylar's tearful face. He glanced back at Cecilia, then stepped forward and gently pulled Skylar into his arms, patting her shoulder. "I'm back safe and sound. Don't cry."
"Daryl," Skylar said, looking up at him with joy, her face lighting up.
"It was just a scare. Don't worry, I'm perfectly fine," Daryl said, glancing sideways.
"If something happened to you, I wouldn't want to live," Skylar pouted, her eyes full of affection for Daryl.
Cecilia felt a pang in her heart.
She had thought Daryl had a tough time over the past year and a half, but it seemed she had overestimated him. He must have been quite close with Skylar. How else would Skylar know he was coming to see her and that they were on this flight? They must have been together for a while.
Cecilia's heart felt like it was being crushed by a heavy stone, making it hard to breathe. The pain in her chest was sharp, like needles.
She mocked herself internally. Hadn't she decided to divorce Daryl? Didn't she want to go their separate ways, each finding their own happiness? So why did it hurt so much to see him with Skylar?
Cecilia clenched her fists, telling herself to stay calm. If she couldn't get through this, how could she move on and look to the future?
Skylar noticed Cecilia and timidly asked Daryl, "Daryl, you and Cecilia..."
"Yeah, she's back in Maple Valley to finalize our divorce," Daryl said, glancing at Cecilia.
Skylar smirked, "Good, it's about time you two ended things."
For a moment, neither Cecilia nor Daryl responded, creating an awkward silence.
Cecilia saw the challenge in Skylar's eyes. She knew Skylar's words were meant for her.
But Cecilia had decided to let go. She wouldn't fight with Skylar. Whoever Daryl wanted to be with was no longer her concern.
Even so, why did it still hurt to breathe? Why did her heart ache when she met his deep gaze?
His eyes were as unfathomable as a deep pool, revealing no emotion. But she felt the coldness in his gaze, a coldness that made her feel like she was in an ice cellar. Just moments ago, his eyes were warm when he looked at Skylar, which made Cecilia's heart ache. She wished she didn't care, but she couldn't help it.
Cecilia knew she couldn't lose her dignity now. It was all she had left.
She took a heavy step forward and approached them.
"Skylar, long time no see," Cecilia said, forcing a smile.
Her face felt stiff, and the smile took all her effort but still felt unnatural.
Well, it couldn't be helped. She had tried her best. At least she hadn't lost her composure.
"Yeah, it's been a while. You've been away from Maple Valley for a year and a half, right?" Skylar said, naturally linking her arm with Daryl's, who didn't pull away.
Seeing Skylar's hand on Daryl's arm, Cecilia glanced at him. He was looking elsewhere, as if Skylar's gesture was familiar to him.
"You remember well. Yeah, it's been a year and a half," Cecilia said, implying they might have been together that long.
"I have a good memory," Skylar said with a fake smile.
Cecilia turned to Daryl. "I won't bother you two. I'll be going now."
She turned to leave.
"We haven't finalized the divorce yet. What, are you trying to avoid it again?" Daryl's voice called out behind her.
Cecilia stopped, frowning.
She turned back, her eyes cold. "Daryl, I'd love to finalize the divorce right now, but it's Sunday. The court's closed."
Daryl frowned.
Cecilia glanced at Skylar, still holding Daryl's arm, and sneered. "I understand. You two must be more anxious than me. Being together without a proper status must be hard."
"You're the one who should be worried about appearances," Daryl retorted with a cold smile.
Skylar pretended to be kind. "Cecilia, you and Daryl were married. Even though things ended up like this, you both share responsibility. Why not part on good terms instead of becoming enemies?"
Skylar's hypocrisy made Cecilia nauseous. Ever since she saw through Skylar's facade, she couldn't stand Skylar. She didn't understand why Daryl was so blind, always choosing Skylar.
