Chapter 1244 I Do Not Agree
That morning, Cecilia set a glass of lemonade on the table.
Daryl, on the other hand, was dressed in dress pants and a white shirt, even wearing a tie.
During their stay at the beach house, Daryl had either been in swim trunks or dressed very casually, never this formal.
So, Cecilia frowned and asked, "Why are you all dressed up?"
Daryl stepped forward, took Cecilia's hand, and apologized, "Sorry, I have a video conference in five minutes. It'll last about an hour, and I won't be able to hang out with you during that time."
Hearing this, Cecilia couldn't help but laugh, "It's just an hour, no need to apologize!"
Daryl lifted Cecilia's hand and kissed the back of it. "I promised to be with you every moment while we're here."
"Then I'll sit next to you and watch your video conference," Cecilia said, turning to sit down.
Daryl touched his nose and said, "Better not. With you here, how can I focus on the meeting? All I'll want to do is throw you onto the bed."
"You're terrible!" Cecilia blushed and immediately pushed him away.
"I'm just being honest," Daryl said, looking at Cecilia earnestly.
Cecilia couldn't take it anymore and quickly stood up, "Alright, I'll go out. You focus on your meeting."
With that, Cecilia turned to leave.
Daryl reached out, grabbed her arm, and pulled her back.
Holding Cecilia in his arms, Daryl whispered in her ear, "Wait for me."
"Okay." Cecilia could feel Daryl's warmth, her face turning red as she nodded gently.
Over the past few days, they had become inseparable. Even a minute apart felt like an eternity.
Cecilia looked up into Daryl's focused eyes and smiled, "I'll go out so you won't be distracted."
She reluctantly turned and left.
Through the floor-to-ceiling window, Cecilia saw Daryl sitting at the computer, engrossed in his video conference.
He looked incredibly charming in his white shirt, sitting upright and serious. Cecilia couldn't help but sit nearby, resting her chin in her hand, watching him.
At that moment, a man in a black suit approached Cecilia. "Ms. Thorne?"
Startled by Douglas's voice, Cecilia jumped, having been too focused on admiring Daryl.
"Douglas? Do you need something?" She looked up to see Douglas, who had a hesitant expression.
"Yeah, I have something to discuss, but I'm not sure if I should." Douglas, usually straightforward, seemed concerned.
Cecilia knew Douglas must have something troubling him.
So, she stood up and said, "Let's talk over there."
Douglas nodded and followed Cecilia to the nearby beach.
Looking at the blue ocean, Cecilia turned to Douglas and asked, "What's up?"
Douglas hesitated before saying, "Ms. Thorne, the executives at Fields Corporation are urging Mr. Fields to return to Maple Valley. There are many issues waiting for him to address, but he remains unmoved. My attempts to persuade him have been futile, and he gets impatient. Since yesterday, his parents have called me several times. I've been making excuses, but I'm afraid I can't hold out much longer!"
Hearing this, Cecilia frowned. "I've asked Daryl several times, and he always said Fields Corporation was fine without him. Turns out he was lying to me."
Cecilia felt anxious but also touched, realizing how much pressure Daryl had been under to stay with her.
"Mr. Fields cares about you deeply, but you have a long future together. I don't think you want him to bear so much pressure because of you, right?" Douglas said, frowning.
After thinking for a moment, Cecilia said to Douglas, "Book us tickets to Maple Valley for tomorrow morning."
Douglas hesitated, "But Mr. Fields..."
"Don't worry, I'll explain to him. I won't say you told me." Cecilia smiled.
"Thank you, Ms. Thorne. I'll book the tickets right away." Douglas's face lit up with relief.
"Alright." Cecilia nodded and watched Douglas leave.
After Douglas left, Cecilia felt conflicted.
She slowly walked to the window, gazing at Daryl, who was still focused on his video conference.
Though she loved the sea, the sky, and the palm trees here, she knew they had to return to Maple Valley. This place would remain their most beautiful memory.
Soon, Daryl ended the call, finishing his video conference.
Turning, Daryl saw Cecilia outside the window and smiled.
He stepped out of the villa and approached Cecilia.
"Why were you spying on me?" Daryl asked, holding Cecilia's shoulders.
"I realized you're even more handsome!" Cecilia wrapped her arms around Daryl's neck.
Daryl tilted his head and smiled, clearly pleased.
"By the way, I have some bad news," Cecilia said, frowning as she saw his happy expression.
Daryl grew tense, "What bad news?"
Cecilia replied with a troubled look, "The magazine is urging me to return to work."
Daryl frowned, "Tell them you're still on vacation!"
"No, if I don't go back, I'll get fired." Cecilia said.
"Then you should fire them. You're going to be Mrs. Fields soon, and I'll pay you." Daryl pinched Cecilia's smooth cheek.
"No, I love my job at the magazine!" Cecilia began to shake Daryl's arm, pouting.
When Cecilia pouted, Daryl had no resistance.
"But I want to stay here with you longer. Don't you think these days have been wonderful? Do you really want to leave?" Daryl's voice was full of allure.
Cecilia didn't want to leave, but she had to persuade him to go. She didn't want to be the woman holding him back.
"We're getting married, right? We can come back for our honeymoon!" Cecilia said.
"That's true." Daryl nodded.
"You agree?" Cecilia was overjoyed.
Daryl took Cecilia's hand and walked towards the villa. "If I didn't agree, would you let it go? What choice do I have? Come on, I'll call Douglas to book the tickets."
