Chapter 888 Tacit Understanding
Hearing Seb's words, Susan couldn't help but laugh.
She had thought he went out to have fun that night, but it turned out he had a pretty rough time.
Seeing Susan's amused expression, Seb frowned and said pitifully, "I knew you'd laugh at me. Why couldn't I just keep my mouth shut?"
As he spoke, Seb reached out and slapped his own face, but accidentally hit the wound on his jaw, causing him to yelp in pain.
"What happened? Did you hit your wound? Why'd you hit yourself?" Seeing his pained expression, Susan frowned too.
Sensing Susan's concern, Seb grabbed her hand and smiled. "You still care about me, don't you?"
Susan laughed and shook off his hand. "If you want to hit yourself, aim for your butt next time!"
"It's all my fault, okay?" Seb could only keep apologizing.
"It was your fault to begin with!" Susan shot him a glance.
"I won't dare do it again." Seb bowed to Susan.
Susan rolled her eyes.
"I swear to you." Seb quickly promised.
"That's more like it." Susan finally smiled.
Seeing her smile, Seb turned and took something wrapped in red cloth out of the car's trunk.
"What's this?" Susan asked curiously, eyeing the flat object in Seb's hand.
"This is from Hugo. He asked me to give it to you," Seb replied.
Hearing this, Susan frowned and thought, 'Why does Hugo give it to me?'
With a hint of curiosity, Susan unwrapped the red cloth and was pleasantly surprised.
It was an oil painting, about 200 inches in length and width, with soft colors. The background was a castle, mountains, and grasslands, and the foreground featured a chestnut horse with a woman in a black and red riding outfit galloping on the grass.
The woman's face was turned to the side, so only her profile and eyes were visible. Susan immediately recognized the woman as herself.
Hugo's painting was very lifelike, and the scene was beautiful. The background was a quiet castle and grassland, while the chestnut horse and Susan were galloping, creating a unique design of motion and stillness.
Sensing Susan's joy and surprise, Seb couldn't help but pout and say, "Hugo is just an amateur painter. If you like, I can find the most famous painter to paint a portrait for you, which will definitely be better than this one!"
Hearing this, Susan knew Seb was jealous again.
The next moment, Susan looked up and smiled. "I can tell you're feeling uneasy. Are you jealous that Hugo paints better than you?"
Seb scoffed, "Even if he paints better than internationally renowned artists, it's none of my business."
"Then why are you so unhappy?" Susan asked.
"Why did he have to paint my woman?" Seb said angrily.
Seeing his reaction, Susan stopped smiling and asked, "If you're so unhappy, why did you still give me the painting?"
He could have chosen not to give it to her, but he did, and he even conveyed Hugo's message.
Seb rolled his eyes and touched his nose. "Even if he gives you a painting, so what? You won't like him. I told him not to get any ideas about you."
Susan knew Seb well enough to see through his act. He might be upset about Hugo's feelings for her, but he wasn't the type to hold a grudge or do anything shady to get rid of him.
Still, she gave him a sidelong glance. "Since you think that way, I'll hang this painting in the study!"
With that, Susan turned and walked into the villa.
Watching her walk away, Seb's eyes fell on her slippers, realizing she might have worried so much that she rushed out of the house. A smile crept onto his lips as he quickly followed her.
Susan headed straight to the study and attempted to tiptoe to reach a landscape painting on the wall, but she was too short to grab it.
Seeing this, Seb, standing behind her, smiled and stepped forward to take down the landscape painting.
Susan turned around and saw Seb standing behind her. She smiled and naturally handed Hugo's painting to him.
Seb took the painting and hung it up.
"It's crooked, a bit to the left, a bit back, yes, a bit lower." Susan started directing Seb to adjust the painting.
Susan was very enthusiastic about directing, and Seb was very obedient, following all her instructions.
Soon, the painting was hung up.
Standing in front of it, Susan admired the painting while touching her chin. "The painting is so artistic. I'll keep it here forever as a memento."
She glanced at Seb to see his reaction.
In fact, Susan had intentionally hung the painting in the Northstar City villa because they had already planned to leave Northstar City and return to Maple Valley with Hayden and Spring. They might not come back here for a long time, so Seb would hardly see the painting.
Seb got the hint and put his arm around her shoulder, smiling. "If you like it, keep it here forever."
Susan and Seb exchanged smiles.
"Not angry anymore?" Seb asked, holding Susan.
Susan gave him a sidelong glance. "Getting angry with you is just asking for trouble. I'm not that dumb!"
"That's right. Don't get mad at me anymore, and I won't dare to make you angry either." Seb smiled and kissed Susan on the cheek.
"Stop, don't touch me!" Susan playfully pushed Seb.
Seb bent down and picked Susan up. "You're my wife; I can touch you however I want!"
As Seb swung her in the air, Susan felt dizzy and immediately wrapped her arms around Seb's neck, protesting, "I'm still your ex-wife right now!"
"We'll go to Maple Valley and remarry right away." Seb grinned.
"Who said I'd remarry you?" Susan teased, looking at Seb with a smile.
