Chapter 105 Covered in Wounds

"Thanks, but I've got a pile of reports to file since it's the start of the month. See you this afternoon," Susan said quickly before hanging up.

She looked around her small room. The sheets were a mess, clothes were scattered on the floor, and Seb's scent lingered.

Susan scanned the room again and realized Seb was gone. She finally sighed in relief.

She tried to get out of bed but felt sore all over. Her face turned red when she saw the bruises on her neck and chest.

She cursed Seb silently. How was she supposed to go out looking like this?

Annoyed, she wrapped herself in a towel and headed to the bathroom. She took a long, hot shower, and the warmth and steam helped soothe her aching muscles and calm her mind.

Sitting on the bed, drying her hair, she noticed something glowing softly by her pillow. It was a brooch from the royal family, a token of love from Willard and Helen.

She picked it up and looked towards the door. Did Seb leave it on purpose?

It was neatly placed, not something Seb would accidentally leave behind. Was it a gift?

Despite her annoyance, she felt a slight flutter. Seb had said at the party he'd give this brooch to the one he loved. Wasn't Cynthia the one he loved? What did it mean now?

Did Seb mean she was the one he truly loved? But if so, why did he divorce her?

Maybe he felt guilty about last night and wanted to make amends with the brooch. Feeling burned by the thought, she threw it back on the bed.

After a quick bite and checking the time, she found a turtleneck to cover the marks on her neck.

In the mirror, she saw a red mark on her cheek from last night. She applied some concealer and headed out.

At the Prosperity Group President's Office, the internal phone rang. Seb, buried in work, pressed the speaker button without looking up.

"Mr. Seb Anderson, Mr. George Anderson is here," said Ellie, the secretary.

"Let him in," Seb replied, hanging up.

George walked in. Seb was still focused on his documents. George placed an exquisite tin box on the desk and smiled, "A friend brought back some top-quality coffee beans."

Seb closed the folder, looked up, and smirked, "Trying to bribe me?"

"What's with the harsh words?I'm just trying to please you," George chuckled, sitting down across from Seb.

Seb leaned back, squinted, and asked, "You're a busy man. What brings you here today?"

Seeing Seb in a good mood, George smiled and said, "I thought you were still mad about last time, so I came to explain. But I guess I was overthinking."

Seb's face turned stern. "You didn't know Susan was mine before. Now you do, so stay away from her!"

George hesitated, then smiled. "Didn't you two get divorced? Seems like you can't let her go. No wonder you haven't married Cynthia yet."

"You're talking too much," Seb snapped.

"Alright, I'll stop," George said, raising his hands in surrender.

"Don't think I don't know your ways. Your on-and-off thing with Vivian is your business, but stay away from Susan!" Seb warned.

George touched his nose and said, "Don't worry, I won't pick up what you don't want."

"Good," Seb's face relaxed.

"I've got a court session this afternoon, so I should go," George said, standing up.

"Got time for a drink tonight?" Seb asked suddenly.

George was surprised. "You're in a really good mood today!"

"Do I have to be in a bad mood all the time? Go prepare, or you'll lose your case this afternoon!" Seb shooed him away.

"Seb, curse me about anything, but not my cases," George said mockingly before leaving.

After George left, Seb picked up his phone and looked at photos of Susan sleeping. Her hair was messy, and she looked like she'd been through a lot.

Seb's fingers gently touched the screen. Susan's face was a bit red, a mark from his anger last night.

Susan was always so defiant and headstrong, never gentle. Last night, he tried to teach her a lesson, but she cursed him until she passed out.

She was like a wild kitten. He was frustrated because he couldn't tame her, but afterward, he found her adorable and regretted his actions.

But the cycle repeated. Susan wouldn't submit, and he would get furious again.

Seb wanted to call her but couldn't find the right words. Someone as proud as him wouldn't say anything soft, and given Susan's defiance, she probably wouldn't have anything nice to say either.

Despite only sleeping for two hours, Seb was full of energy at work today. He was afraid he wouldn't resist seeing Susan tonight, so he arranged drinks with George to buy himself some time.

He didn't want to seem too eager, like he couldn't live without her. Plus, he was afraid Susan would anger him again, and he might hurt her once more.
