Chapter 526 You're Really Despicable
Hearing Susan's words, Seb just stood there, quiet as a mouse.
Susan, getting all impatient, frowned and snapped, "Why aren't you saying anything?"
Seb finally looked up, a sly grin on his face. "Susan, this ain't gonna fix anything."
"Why not? James is being a total leech. You really wanna buy him a villa, a fancy car, and give him millions every year?" Susan's voice was rising with frustration.
Seb chuckled, "Nah, of course not. James can ask for the moon, but we can haggle."
"You mean, go and talk it out with him?" Susan stared at Seb, trying to read his mind.
"Yep," Seb nodded.
Susan was taken aback for a sec, then blurted out, "I don't wanna go negotiate with him."
Seb gave her a reassuring smile. "If you don't go, I will."
"No way! You're not going either!" Susan said, crossing her arms defiantly.
Seb sighed, "Susan, we gotta deal with this."
"With your clout, you don't need to back down," Susan said, dead serious.
Seb nodded, "True, I could have Leon bribe the Maple Valley newspaper to keep James out of the headlines. I could hire a top-notch lawyer to drag this out until we win. Heck, I could even get someone to scare James off. But he's not just anyone; he's your dad. I don't want you to regret it later."
Susan knew Seb meant well. Even though she couldn't stand James, she didn't want him to end up like Dominic.
After a moment, Susan looked at Seb and said, "Alright, we'll go together, but we gotta stick together. We'll offer him no more than 2000 bucks a month, a one-bedroom apartment, and he can save up for a car himself. Nothing more."
"Got it, I'm with you," Seb nodded.
"Do you know where he's staying now?" Susan asked, a bit anxious.
"Yeah, I do," Seb nodded.
"Then let's go find him now!" Susan said, grabbing Seb's arm.
Seb, holding his stomach, pulled her back. "It's almost one. Can we grab some lunch first? We need fuel for this."
He said it with a playful tone.
Susan couldn't help but smile, realizing she was hungry too. She agreed, and they went to eat.
After lunch, Seb took Susan to the neighborhood where James was renting.
It was a decent, mid-range place, and they quickly found James's apartment.
They rang the doorbell for ages, but no one answered.
Susan kept jabbing the doorbell, and Seb gently stopped her. "Looks like he's not home. Let's chill on that bench over there and wait."
Feeling uneasy, Susan followed Seb to a bench in the hallway, and they sat down to wait for James.
Two hours dragged by, and still, no one came or went on that floor.
Susan was getting antsy, itching to see James and set things straight. If he didn't play ball, she'd lay it all out, no sugar-coating.
Noticing her anxious vibe, Seb squeezed her hand, trying to calm her down. "Chill, okay? You look like you're ready to throw down, not talk."
Susan shrugged, "I really wanna smack him, but too bad I'm a woman and can't take him down."
"Smacking him won't fix squat. If we hit him, he'll just go around saying we're ungrateful and that you even hit your own dad," Seb shook his head.
Susan sighed, realizing she was being rash. James always stirred up trouble, and she couldn't stand him!
Just then, the elevator dinged, and the doors slid open.
Susan almost jumped up to see who it was, but Seb held her back, whispering, "Hold up, let's see if it's him."
Reluctantly, Susan sat back down.
Two people stepped out of the elevator, chatting away.
"James, how do you think Seb and Susan will react to our demands? Think they'll cave?" came a familiar female voice.
Susan's skin crawled. It was Sophia. What was she doing here? She just mentioned James; were they together now?
Susan shot Seb a confused look. Seb knew Sophia too, and they both peeked down the hallway.
Sure enough, there were James and Sophia, kicking off their shoes and fumbling for keys.
Susan was floored. When did they get back together? Just a few days ago, James was all over Catherine, trying to win her back. Now he was with Sophia again? Unreal.
As he changed his shoes, James said smugly, "If they don't agree, I'll down a bottle of poison right at the entrance of Prosperity Group. Let's see if they can handle that kind of scandal."
"Yeah, Seb's loaded. We should milk it. Even if they don't give us everything, they should at least buy us a big house, a car worth no less than 40 grand, and 5 grand a month for living expenses!" Sophia said, unlocking the door.
"Stick with me, and you'll live the high life!" James boasted.
"James, our future's in your hands," Sophia cooed, resting a hand on his shoulder.
Susan's blood was boiling, and she couldn't take it anymore. These two bastards were plotting against her!
In a flash, Susan stormed over!
Seb frowned and quickly followed.
"James, you're a real piece of work!" Susan yelled, marching up and slapping James across the face.
