Chapter 1196 Restlessness
Cecilia gave a slight smile. She couldn't refuse any longer and got into Barry's car.
Barry then drove the car onto the driveway.
"Hurry up and eat while it's hot. We'll be at the magazine office in about ten minutes," Barry said, glancing at Cecilia.
Cecilia looked down at the sandwich in her hand, the one she liked the least, and said, "Did you have breakfast? Why don't you eat this?"
"I was downstairs at your place early and already had a sandwich. This one is for you."
Under Barry's gaze, Cecilia had no choice but to start eating the sandwich.
Even though sandwiches were her least favorite food, Cecilia ate it bite by bite. She didn't want to disappoint Barry's kindness.
"I prepared some water for you," Barry said, handing a bottle to Cecilia after she finished eating.
"Thank you." Cecilia felt a bit dry and took a sip.
She felt very touched. Barry was so considerate.
Soon, the car stopped in front of the office building where the magazine company was located.
"I'll pick you up after work," Barry said with a smile as Cecilia was about to get out of the car.
Cecilia instinctively wanted to refuse, but then she thought, 'Isn't it normal for a boyfriend to pick up his girlfriend?'
So she smiled and said, "Alright, bye."
Watching Barry's car drive away, Cecilia turned around and was about to walk into the office building.
Unexpectedly, when she looked up, she saw a familiar figure standing not far away.
The person's gaze was fixed on Cecilia, his eyes filled with a sinister look that sent chills down her spine.
Seeing Daryl suddenly, Cecilia's head buzzed!
Why was Daryl always haunting her? Last night, she saw him when she looked downstairs, and now on her way to work, she ran into him again.
No, it wasn't a coincidence. He must have deliberately blocked her on her way to work!
Cecilia knew she couldn't avoid him, so she bit her lip and walked straight over.
"Daryl, what do you mean by this? Why do you keep showing up in front of me?" Cecilia glared at Daryl and questioned him.
"Why was Barry at your house in the middle of the night?" Daryl ignored Cecilia's question.
Cecilia laughed in anger. "Daryl, get it straight. I have nothing to do with you. Who comes to my house is none of your business!"
"Don't you have any self-respect? You're a woman, and a single woman at that. Aren't you afraid of what people might think?" Daryl's face turned livid as he tried to reason with Cecilia.
But to Cecilia, he was just being unreasonable and irrational.
"Barry and I are both single. It's perfectly normal for us to be together. Who would gossip? Jerk!" Cecilia cursed in anger and turned to leave.
Daryl took a big step forward, grabbed her wrist, and pulled her back.
"Daryl, what are you doing?" Cecilia hissed, then glared at him.
Daryl anxiously asked, "What did you say? Are you and Barry together? Did you hug? Kiss? Sleep together?"
Cecilia raised her hand and slapped him.
The sound of the slap echoed in the air.
Daryl let go of her wrist.
Cecilia angrily scolded, "Daryl, listen carefully. Whether I hug, kiss, or sleep with Barry has nothing to do with you. I love Barry very much now, and we might get married soon. So just back off, or I'll have Barry beat you up!"
After angrily pointing at Daryl, Cecilia turned and left in a huff.
Watching her departing figure, Daryl's eyes were filled with pain.
Sitting at her desk, Cecilia's anger had not yet subsided.
But after the anger faded, she felt an immense sadness, with the scene of her slapping Daryl playing over and over in her mind.
By the time she got off work, Cecilia was still feeling very down.
Sitting in Barry's car, she was listless.
Barry glanced at her and asked with concern, "You don't look well. Are you too tired?"
Cecilia touched her face, hesitated for a moment, and said, "Maybe I read too many manuscripts today."
"Work is important, but you also need to take care of yourself. Get up and move around every hour," Barry said with concern.
Seeing the concern in his eyes, Cecilia felt touched and smiled, nodding. "I know."
"What do you want to eat? After dinner, I'll take you home early to rest. Otherwise, you'll age faster," Barry teased.
"Okay." Cecilia nodded.
Then, Cecilia suggested eating something light. Barry found a restaurant with a very light menu and ordered Cecilia's favorite dishes. After dinner, he took her home and thoughtfully didn't go upstairs, wanting her to rest well.
Lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, Cecilia thought Barry was indeed very considerate. But why did she keep seeing Daryl's furious face?
A few days later, Cecilia arrived in front of the Fields Group office building. After pacing for a while, she took out her phone and dialed a number.
After two rings, Douglas's voice came through. "Miss Thorne, hello. Is there something you need?"
Cecilia detected a hint of excitement in Douglas's voice and quickly said, "Douglas, I'm at the entrance of Fields Group to deliver the magazine to Mr. Fields. Are you available to come down and pick it up?"
In the morning, Seraphine called Cecilia to her office to ask if she had delivered this issue of the magazine to Daryl. Cecilia said she hadn't, and Seraphine was not pleased, instructing her to personally hand the magazine to Daryl. Cecilia had no choice but to bring the magazine over.
But Cecilia wouldn't go see Daryl. Who knew how long he would pester her? So she had to call Douglas for help.
Douglas hesitated for a moment.
Cecilia said in a pleading tone, "Douglas, I don't want to see Daryl. Can you please be a little more understanding?"
"Alright, please wait a moment."
After hanging up, Cecilia paced back and forth in front of the office building.
A few minutes later, Douglas appeared in front of Cecilia, slightly out of breath.
"Miss Thorne," Douglas greeted Cecilia.
