Chapter 1182 Interviewing the Ex-Boyfriend
That morning, Cecilia was summoned to Seraphine's office.
"Seraphine, you wanted to see me?" Cecilia asked with a smile as she took a seat across from Seraphine.
Seraphine straightened up and asked with a smile, "Cecilia, have you decided on the next interviewee for your column?"
Cecilia frowned and said, "I've sent invitations to several suitable candidates, but none have responded yet."
This was Cecilia's biggest headache lately. She had been racking her brain every day but nothing seemed to work.
Seraphine nodded and said, "Since you haven't made a decision yet, I have a candidate in mind. He's very willing to appear on Vogue Vista. He's young and promising, and his family business is quite well-known here in Maple Valley. I think if we handle this interview well, it will boost our magazine's sales for the next issue. Plus, there was an incident involving him six months ago that generated a lot of buzz, with many tabloids covering it. Our magazine's audience is mostly young people, and young women love handsome young CEOs. This is a rare opportunity."
Cecilia smiled and said, "That's great! Seraphine, who is it? Can you give me the contact information? I'll get in touch right away."
"I'll give you his business card. You can contact his assistant; they are already aware of this." Seraphine replied, pulling a business card from her drawer and handing it to Cecilia.
Cecilia took the card with both hands, glanced at it, and her smile faded.
"What's wrong?" Seraphine noticed Cecilia's unusual expression.
Cecilia was shocked by the name on the card.
The card read: Daryl, CEO of Fields Group, along with the contact information for his special assistant, Douglas.
This was a setup. Daryl did this on purpose. No wonder he hadn't shown up recently; she thought he had given up, but he was planning this all along.
"Oh, nothing. This company looks familiar," Cecilia replied absentmindedly.
Seraphine nodded and said, "You might remember that, six months ago, you interviewed Victoria from Tate Corporation. Daryl was supposed to marry her, but he called off the wedding on the day itself. It was a big scandal in Maple Valley, covered by many magazines and newspapers. That's the buzz I was talking about. After all this time, I think if we publish an interview with Daryl, many readers who are curious about what happened will want to buy our magazine."
Cecilia frowned and asked, "Seraphine, do we have to delve into Daryl's personal life?"
"Of course, the focus should be on his professional achievements, but we also need to touch on his personal life because that's what sells. We need to find a balance and not go overboard. The intermediary has subtly conveyed my intentions, and surprisingly, Daryl agreed readily," Seraphine said happily.
Cecilia knew that since Seraphine had spoken, there was no room for negotiation. Both Vogue Vista and her column needed a guest like Daryl, so she couldn't refuse.
Cecilia nodded and said, "Seraphine, I'll have my assistant reach out to Daryl's special assistant to set up a time."
But Seraphine said, "No, you must contact him personally. I don't understand why, but Daryl requested that you handle all the contact and the interview."
Cecilia was stunned.
"Right, I think Daryl knows you. He was present during your interview with Victoria. He must be impressed with your work attitude and efficiency, so don't be nervous. Just do your best, and I believe you can do it," Seraphine encouraged Cecilia.
Cecilia had no choice but to agree.
Leaving Seraphine's office, Cecilia felt drained.
She never expected Daryl to do this. Frustrated, she returned to her desk and tossed the files onto the table.
Marcella happened to walk by. Noticing Cecilia's unhappy face, she walked in, leaned on the desk, and asked softly, "Why the long face?"
Seeing Marcella, Cecilia frowned.
Marcella then pulled Cecilia to the break room to talk.
"What did Seraphine want? You look so upset," Marcella asked.
Marcella was a straightforward and cheerful person, and Cecilia enjoyed her company, so she was willing to share her thoughts with her.
"Seraphine wants me to interview my ex-boyfriend," Cecilia replied, almost in tears.
Marcella's eyes lit up. "The CEO of that group? Isn't that great? Maybe you two can get back together."
Cecilia frowned and said, "Please don't joke about this. I really don't want anything to do with him anymore."
Marcella studied Cecilia's face and asked, "Are you serious?"
"Of course!"
"Then it's simple. Just treat it as a professional task. Consider him just an interviewee. Even if he pesters you, it won't matter. He can't force your feelings."
Cecilia nodded. "You're right."
Cecilia realized she had no need to feel conflicted. As long as she firmly rejected him and treated Daryl as a stranger, even if he pestered her longer, the result would be the same.
"Thank you, Marcella. I get it now. I'll get back to work!" Cecilia said, turning to leave.
Watching Cecilia walk away, Marcella grumbled, "Leaving so soon? Can't you help me with my problems too?"
"You're so cheerful; what problems could you have?" Cecilia turned and smiled brightly, then walked away.
Cecilia sat back at her desk, took a deep breath, and dialed Douglas's number.
"Miss Thorne, I've been expecting your call," Douglas's voice came through as soon as the call connected.
Cecilia was taken aback.
She replied, "On behalf of Vogue Vista's financial column, I'd like to invite Mr. Fields for an interview. Please help me arrange a suitable time with him."
"Mr. Fields has already instructed me. Come to Fields Group tomorrow morning. I'll pick you up at the magazine office at nine," Douglas said and then hung up.
