Chapter 876 Meeting Again
Hearing Seb's question snapped Susan back to reality. She looked down and mumbled a response.
She couldn't help but think, 'What brings him to Northstar City so suddenly? Is he here with Ellie to make a trip because the wedding be off? Or maybe Hayden and Spring will be on holiday break and he's keeping his promise to visit?'
Whatever the reason, Susan knew deep down he wasn't here for her.
"Why are you out shopping? Where's Kathy?" Seb glanced at Susan and then looked around, not seeing Kathy anywhere.
"Hayden and Spring have exams today, so I wanted to make them a big meal tonight to reward them," Susan said, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
Seb smiled and said, "Looks like I get to try your cooking today too. I'll go with you."
Susan was stunned when she heard he wanted to go grocery shopping with her.
The next moment, Seb took the shopping basket from Susan and grabbed her hand, leading her towards the supermarket ahead.
Startled by his sudden action, Susan quickly pulled her hand back.
"What's wrong?" Seb asked, looking at Susan with a puzzled expression.
Susan frowned, snatched the basket back from Seb, and said, "I can do the shopping myself. You don't need to come."
Seb frowned slightly but still smiled. "You're going to buy a lot. Let me help you carry it."
"No need, thank you," Susan replied coldly and distantly.
At this point, Seb ignored her protests, stepped forward, and took the basket from Susan again. Susan tried to take it back, but she was no match for Seb.
"I said no!" Susan, unable to retrieve the basket, finally became angry and embarrassed.
Seeing Susan's angry expression, Seb seemed quite pleased and smiled, showing his white teeth. "It's just grocery shopping, not a big deal. Why are you so worked up?"
Hearing this, Susan was furious.
He was someone else's fiancé now, so why was he still bothering her?
Susan glared at Seb and then turned angrily towards the supermarket.
Sensing Susan's anger, Seb seemed in a good mood, smiled slightly, and followed her with the basket.
At the supermarket, Seb obediently pushed the shopping cart behind Susan.
If he wanted to push the cart, fine. Susan ignored him and focused on selecting ingredients.
Seb remained quiet, following Susan obediently.
Half an hour later, Susan had filled the cart with various vegetables, meat, seasonings, and fruits.
Passing by the seafood section, Seb suddenly pointed at the squid and said, "The squid looks good today. Let's get some."
Hearing this, Susan glanced at the squid on the counter and frowned. "We already have fish. No need to buy more."
But Seb insisted. "I love squid!"
He did like squid, and Susan often made it for him.
Memories of the past flooded her mind, but he no longer belonged to her.
Feeling bitter, Susan forced a smile and finally said, "You should have Ellie make it for you."
With that, she turned and walked towards the pasta section.
Lost in thought, Susan picked out some bread and pasta, then turned to put them in the cart.
To her surprise, Seb had already put a bag of squid in the cart and was grinning. "I still think you make it best."
Susan was speechless.
She put her items in the cart and said, "I didn't plan on inviting you for dinner tonight."
Then she headed to the checkout.
Seb said nothing, silently following her.
After the cashier scanned all the items, Susan was about to pay when Seb handed over a card.
Without looking up, Susan said, "Pay cash."
The meaning was clear; she didn't want Seb to pay.
"Swipe the card!" Seb insisted.
"I said pay cash," Susan retorted, getting into a standoff with Seb.
For a moment, the cashier didn't know what to do.
In the end, Seb forcefully took the cash from the cashier's hand and handed over his card.
The cashier had no choice but to swipe the card.
Knowing she couldn't win, Susan angrily turned and walked out first.
Outside the supermarket, Susan initially didn't want to wait for Seb, but realizing all the groceries were with him, she had no choice but to wait at the entrance.
'He's such a jerk. Why does he suddenly show up today?' Susan really wanted to buy a plane ticket to Maple Valley tomorrow and come back after Seb left Northstar City.
Soon, Seb came out of the supermarket, carrying two large bags.
Susan glanced at him and then turned to walk away.
After walking several steps, she realized no one was following her.
Frowning, Susan turned to look.
To her surprise, Seb was just a few feet behind her.
But the two large plastic bags were gone. Susan frowned and asked, "Where are the groceries I bought?"
Seb smiled and said, "I bought them, didn't I?"
Susan frowned again.
The next moment, Seb stepped forward and handed her the cash she had given the cashier earlier.
However, Susan turned her head away, refusing to take it. Those groceries were hers, and he wasn't getting a free meal tonight.
With a smile, Seb returned the money to his pocket after Susan declined it. "Well, it's just going from your hand to mine anyway," he chuckled. "It's all ours in the end!"
Hearing this, Susan immediately retorted, "We have divorced. We have nothing to do with each other!"
Susan didn't understand why he was suddenly saying such ambiguous things. In Maple Valley, he always avoided her. What was going on now?
But Seb wasn't angry at all. Instead, he stepped forward, trying to put his arm around Susan's shoulder, and said with a smile, "Let's discuss this at home, okay? Arguing on the street doesn't look good."
