Chapter 34
The reflection letter was written as follows:
[Dear Seb,
If my last reflection was about work, this one's about us.
Amelia's always been a thorn in my side, and you know why. But I get that personal grudges shouldn't mess with things at Prosperity Group. Still, Amelia's actions were infuriating. She even hinted at having something special with you, and I lost it.
I admit I was impulsive and jealous. I irrationally wondered about your relationship with her. As an employee of Prosperity Group, I was wrong, but as your wife, I feel I wasn't wrong because these are emotions I should have.
Your wife, Susan]
Susan felt deeply ashamed after writing that letter. It was almost noon when she finally got dressed and showed up in the dining hall.
Isabella saw her and immediately pulled her aside, whispering, "Why are you so late? It's almost lunchtime."
"Overslept," Susan mumbled, touching her face.
"Had a good time last night?" Isabella nudged her playfully.
Susan rolled her eyes, pulled out the reflection letter from her pocket, and snapped, "Look at what you did!"
Isabella took the letter and smirked. "Was Mr. Anderson particularly satisfied? I really put effort into this."
"You've embarrassed me completely! How am I supposed to face him now?" Susan was on the verge of tears, thinking about those cheesy words made her want to die.
"You two are at least legally married. What's there to be embarrassed about?" Isabella scoffed.
"I can't talk to you. Let's eat, I'm starving." Susan turned to get a tray and went to get food.
Today's meal was a buffet, and the dishes were plentiful. Maybe yesterday's activities drained her energy, and without breakfast this morning, Susan was really hungry.
After piling her plate with food, Susan spotted a dish labeled as a tonic. Her eyes lit up. She'd always wanted to try it but never had the chance because it was too expensive. Today, she had the opportunity.
Just as she was about to lift the lid, a staff member quickly came over with a smile and said, "Sorry, Miss, today's buffet doesn't include tonics."
"Oh, it's okay," Susan quickly replied.
It made sense. A buffet with tonics would be very expensive. This company gathering was already quite good, but it was only a hundred-dollar standard, so how could they provide such expensive ingredients?
The staff member smiled at Susan, and she politely nodded back.
As Susan turned around, she suddenly saw a figure in a black suit. Looking up, she saw Seb. She panicked and almost slipped, but Seb caught her.
Susan silently cursed, 'I would never wear these high heels again. They always made me look foolish!'
"Why are you always in trouble?" Seb frowned, his tone reproachful.
Feeling both regretful and a bit annoyed, Susan quickly brushed off Seb's hand and said, "It won't happen again." Then she turned and walked away.
Sitting down, Susan's cheeks were a bit flushed. Memories of last night surged back, and she looked around at her colleagues eating, afraid of being exposed.
Isabella noticed and smirked. "Did something happen last night? You're acting strange today!"
Seeing Isabella's smirk, Susan just admitted, "When a man and a woman are alone, something's bound to happen, right?"
"Spill the details!" Isabella was immediately interested.
"Can't you eat without talking?" Susan used a fork to shove a piece of chicken into Isabella's mouth.
Isabella chewed while smirking at Susan. "Hmm, delicious."
Susan rolled her eyes, feeling that Isabella was really annoying.
At that moment, Leon, who was eating with Seb, suddenly stood up, cleared his throat, and said, "Everyone, today Mr. Anderson has added a special dish for us, imported premium tonics, one for each person. Enjoy!"
The employees were thrilled because each portion of the imported premium tonic cost over a thousand dollars.
Hearing this, Susan looked towards Seb. He was quietly eating, his face expressionless.
"Imported premium tonics! We can't usually afford this. I heard it's especially good for women. Looks like we're all benefiting from you today," Isabella said excitedly.
"Seb is just showing off his wealth. It has nothing to do with me," Susan quickly explained.
But Susan knew better. Seb must have seen her trying to open the tonic dish earlier. He wasn't just being spontaneous; he wanted her to have it. But giving it only to her would be too obvious, so he gave it to everyone. Susan felt warm and happy inside.
"You think I'm blind? I saw you trying to get the tonic earlier," Isabella said.
Susan stubbornly replied, "He's just rewarding the baby in my belly."
"Then why did he send Amelia away? Is it because the baby in your belly doesn't like her?" Isabella asked, staring at Susan.
"What did you say? Who sent Amelia away?" Susan asked.
Looking around, Susan indeed didn't see Amelia. Usually, at this time, Amelia would be all dressed up, trying to get Seb's attention.
"You didn't know? Amelia was sent back to Maple Valley by Leon's arranged car this morning. You should have seen her unwilling face, almost crying. Those who didn't like her were gloating!" Isabella replied.
Susan glanced at Seb, who was still elegantly eating. Her heart was in turmoil. She never expected him to send Amelia away. Was it for her?
Isabella leaned forward and teased, "Looks like you did a great job last night. Mr. Anderson is in a great mood today."
"Nonsense." Susan withdrew her gaze, touching her face, which felt hot.
"What nonsense? I saw Seb running this morning. He looked refreshed, energetic, and full of vigor." Isabella laughed.
Susan thought, 'Last night was exhausting, and Seb still had the energy to run. He must be very fit.' She could still recall Seb's strong and powerful waist.
