Chapter 209 News

When Susan heard this, she finally got what Saskia meant.

George showed up almost every weekend with lots of good food and drinks. Brenda mentioned he used to come just once a month, so no wonder Saskia got the wrong idea.

Susan quickly clarified, "Saskia, you've got it wrong. George and I are just friends. I'm in a bit of a bind, and George, being the nice guy he is, brought me here to stay with you."

Saskia sighed deeply. "I figured George wouldn't be that lucky."

Susan added, "George is amazing; he'll definitely find someone great in the future!"

Saskia gave Susan a look. "Being amazing isn't everything. A woman should be like you—able to win a man's heart, have kids, and run a household. Not like Vivian, always off painting who-knows-what abroad. They say her paintings even won some foreign awards, but I never see her around. It's good George broke up with her; now he can find someone better."

Susan stayed quiet, unsure if Saskia knew why George and Vivian split, partly because of her.

Then Saskia eyed Susan's belly and asked, "What about your baby's father? Is he dodging responsibility? I might be old, but I can still help. Tell me who he is, and I'll get you justice!"

Susan didn't want to bring up Seb, so she quickly said, "Saskia, I don't want to trouble you. The baby's father is a nobody. I don't think much of him, so I won't marry him. But I'm not young, and the doctor said if I don't keep this baby, I might not get another chance. So, I've decided to have the baby and be a single mom!"

Saskia and Susan stared at each other for a moment, shocked by Susan's decision.

After a while, Saskia shook her head. "I guess I'm really out of touch. I don't get you young folks. George and Vivian dated for years, and all she did was paint. And George's brother, over thirty and still not married, with a sick girlfriend. I just don't get it."

Susan was stunned. George's brother had to be Seb, and the sick girlfriend was Cynthia. Even Saskia knew about Seb's loyalty to Cynthia. It showed how devoted Seb was.

Though Susan had been calm lately, hearing about Seb still hurt.

That night, Susan was quieter than usual and went to bed early.

The next morning, she heard Brenda's voice.

"Mrs. Wright, Mr. Anderson is here!"

Susan knew George had arrived since Saskia only had one daughter, George's mom, and almost no other relatives.

Hearing Brenda's call, Susan stepped out into the courtyard.

"Grandma, I'm here!" George called out with a grin, handing his bags to Brenda.

Saskia glanced at Susan and joked, "I've lived here for years and never saw you this often. I guess I owe it to Susan."

Susan blushed at Saskia's teasing.

George hugged Saskia's shoulders and said, "Grandma, I'm not busy lately. Wrapped up my cases and handed the new ones to my team. I'm taking it easy now, so I'll visit more often!"

"That's more like it. Come on, join me for my morning exercise. There's an old man who always wants to compete with me; I have to beat him!" Saskia said, excited.

George supported her and said, "Grandma, I'll help you outdo him!"

"Outdo him," Saskia corrected.

"Yeah, yeah," George repeated, winking at Susan.

Susan smiled and went back inside.

At noon, Brenda made a big lunch. Saskia was in a great mood and ate a lot. After lunch, George took her for a walk, and then she went for a nap.

Susan sat under the grapevine, glanced at a small cat sleeping at her feet, and poured herself some water. She had just taken a sip when George came out of Saskia's room.

"Is Saskia asleep?" Susan asked, putting down her glass.

"Yeah," George nodded, smiling. "Grandma's thrilled; she won her morning exercise competition."

Susan smiled, thinking, 'When people get old, simple things make them happy.'

"You look great lately. This place suits you. The air here is amazing. I should take a long vacation here too," George said, sitting in a rocking chair.

"Saskia picked a great spot. I didn't know Maple Valley was this beautiful. The creek water is so clear. Living here must be good for your health," Susan said.

"Absolutely. Do you know how many developers want to build here? My grandma bought all the nearby hills to keep the scenery intact!" George said.

Susan was shocked. Saskia seemed so down-to-earth, but buying all those hills must have cost a lot. Then again, truly wealthy people don't flaunt their wealth.

"By the way, I have some news!" George suddenly sat up, a mysterious smile on his face.
